Round Up by arrangement with Live Nation present

LUCINDA WILLIAMS

THURSDAY OCTOBER 8, 2015 – Round Up by arrangement with Live Nation is thrilled to announce one of America’s finest singer-songwriters, LUCINDA WILLIAMS will head to New Zealand for one show only, playing Auckland’s Vector Arena on Friday December 4.

It’s been three years since the immensely talented Lucinda Williams graced our shores and we’re honoured to welcome the three-time Grammy Award winner back to New Zealand for a one-off intimate performance. Renowned for marrying rock, blues, country and soul, Lucinda heads our way, with stellar band in tow; including Wallflowers guitarist Stuart Mathis and her irreplaceable rhythm section, David Sutton on bass and Butch Norton on drums.

Tickets for this one-off performance will go on sale at midday Monday, October 12.

My Live Nation and Southern Fork members can be among the first to secure tickets during the pre-sales commencing at midday tomorrow, Friday October 9.

For complete tour and ticketing details, visit: www.livenation.co.nz.

With a recording career spanning 12 albums and nearing four decades, Lucinda Williams is touring on the back of her brilliant 2014 double-album release, Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone, which was voted Album of the Year at the 14th Annual Americana Awards last month.

The album includes 20 new songs with all but two of the tracks written solely by 62-year-old Williams. From the very personal ‘Compassion’ penned by her poet father, Miller Williams and sung into being by Lucinda, to the closing, beautifully epic rendition of JJ Cale’s ‘Magnolia’; Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone is testament to Lucinda’s prowess.

Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone joins a distinguished discography including 1978 debut Ramblin’ on My Mind, 1988’s eponymous breakthrough, Lucinda Williams and 1998’s landmark Car Wheels On A Gravel Road.

unbelievable location, unbelievable music, unbelievable night!!

  • Lucinda was hot!

by blujaz on 8/27/10Queen Mary Events Park - Long BeachRating: 5 out of 5

Lucinda Williams was absolutely Fabulous. The venue was amazing and the crowd was electric. She tried to play everything on her Facebook request for the night's song list and it was truly a blast. Chrissie Hynde and the Fairground Boys were a phenomenal opening act. Please let's see more concerts at this venue and definitely more Lucinda!!!

  • Fairground Boys n' Lu at the Fairgounds

by Ocram on 8/27/10Queen Mary Events Park - Long BeachRating: 4 out of 5

JP, Chrissie and the Fairground Boys almost stole the show from Lucinda; great venue, beautiful weather and outstanding music.

  • Lucinda rocks!

Her down home realness and amazing vocal range was a treat to experience.

  • Lucinda Williams lit up the moon

by zenpowered on 8/27/10Queen Mary Events Park - Long BeachRating: 5 out of 5

Lucinda Williams nearly started up the Queen Mary's engines in Long Beach last night. She is a fearless powerful rocker. Her guitar player could bring waves back to LB Harbor with his flying fingers. Lucinda's voice is seriously stronger with age. Lucinda Williams is a female rocking blues star who gives all she's got by the message in her heartfelt songs and she got this lazy crowd off their seats. She pays tribute to all of us women, who are not afraid to grow up and let the years take us where they will.

  • What a poet... what an artist!!

by jeedha on 8/27/10Uptown Theatre Napa - NapaRating: 5 out of 5

Lucinda was wonderful at the Uptown. I was worried because of some bad reveiws from a show a few days earlier, but she was fantastic! She played a long set with many old favorites, sang with emotion and that wonderful "smokey" voice that was perfect this night! She also played some new songs that sounded really great... check out "Convince me" on her new album. It was also really great to see Chrissie Hynde... she recieved a standing ovation before she sang a note! When she did sing that note, you were transformed!!! There is no one like her!! She is touring with her lover JP Jones, I am glad she is in love but I wish she could have fallen for someone who could sing! It was worth it just to she her!!! Two of the greatest female song writers ever on the same bill, fantastic!!

  • Lucinda rips it up!

by tunancheese on 8/26/10Uptown Theatre Napa - NapaRating: 5 out of 5

First and foremost, the Uptown Theater in Napa, is a first class venue! It was my first visit to the Uptown and I was seated in the center section of the lower balcony. Fantastic view, and, the sound was top notch. Even my wife, who is not an audiophile, commented on how clear everything was, specifically, the vocals. We had a great dinner nearby before the show and parking was plentiful. We will be attending this venue again when another of our favorite performers makes a stop. The opening act was no ordinary performer - in fact - she is a legend with her own band, the Pretenders. Chrissie, JP Jones and their excellent guitar player played an acoustic set of their recently released album, Fidelity. It was an excellent display of talent by all concerned & if the opportunity presents itself, I'll be catching Chrissie & JP in San Francisco at Bimbo's. I bought the CD at the show. The night, however, belonged to Lucinda, who is easily one of the top female performers of our time. Her songs are filled with passion, sorrow, longing and honesty. She is the real deal and in an age of corporate honed divas she stands out like the sparkling star that others pale to in comparison. She's the real deal and she delivers like few others can, male or female.

  • A mediocre night...

by Purlzgirl on 8/26/10Uptown Theatre Napa - NapaRating: 3 out of 5

Loved the newly revamped theatre, the owners did a great job setting the stage for a great concert-going experience, I will definitely go again. Chrissie Hynde (the warm-up act, if you can believe it!), was fantastic -showing that she has lost none of her talent and swing in the aging process. But Lucinda, well Lucinda was a bit of a disapointment. Her voice and talent, were as ever, amazing, but she was having a bad night, and having a hard time not dumping it on her audience. There was evidently trouble with the setup, and she made this abundantly obvious to her fans by spending the first three songs with her back almost entirely to the audience, and then barely addressing us between sets. And then to make matter worse, she spent most of the evening avoiding her fans' favorites songs, instead focusing on music from her as-yet-unreleased new album. What a bummer, as she played NOT ONE song from her grammy award winning album West. Oh well, I'm still a fan, but a disapointed one at that...

  • Not the same without Doug

by santabarbarabob on 8/26/10Ventura Theater - VenturaRating: 2 out of 5

Disappointed to hear Doug Pettibone has left the group. Guess he has been gone since last tour & not on new CD. Is a shame because he took Lucinda from a really good singer/musician to the brink of a true opening act star w/ the previous 2 albums and tours. Now he has left with the other guitarist he brought on and she is back to square one. Back to a 4 piece band that can only play her songs as they sound on record. Lucinda appeared out of sync with the band, not her happy usual mood, and had to read from music the whole show. There was no spark to the sound that was coming out of that band without Pettibone leading the way musically. Just think her time now has passed as becoming anything other than a decent recording artist. I guess I am just spoiled, but I would not see her again with this setup. Have seen her at least 15 times over the years and she was at the height of her career from 2007-2009. No more. I do not think she can get back to that spot. Very unfortunate.

  • Lucinda Williams and Chrissie Hynde

by artdirector on 8/26/10Uptown Theatre Napa - NapaRating: 4 out of 5

Lucinda Williams did a good show, though it was mostly oldies. Was hoping to hear more from her most recent work, and there was only one song. Pretty hard rocking show, absent her slower more ballad-like songs. Val, her bass guitar player, was amazing!! One complaint, probably venue-related, was the over half hour break between sets. No break was needed, and for the many people who had an hour or two drive to get home late on a weeknight it was painful.

  • Good stuff!

by TheWorstMan on 8/26/10Uptown Theatre Napa - NapaRating: 4 out of 5

I love Chrissy Hynde and never saw her perform live before, so this was just great. And to be honest, that is why i got the ticket; I knew nothing about Lucinda Williams, who, it turns out, what pretty freaking great too. I don't even like most country music and I enjoyed her performance! The Uptown in Napa also has drinks that you can bring in while you watch the show, which is always nice.

  • Great Event!

by moserina on 8/26/10Uptown Theatre Napa - NapaRating: 5 out of 5

Beautiful venue and two fabulous acts. Lucinda and Chrissie are as good as ever! Strong voices and great lyrics. Loved it.

  • Best concert I've ever heard Lucinda give!

by pantherdancer on 8/26/10Uptown Theatre Napa - NapaRating: 5 out of 5

Absolutely the best performance I've ever seen by Lucinda Williams. (Chrissie & JP were just a minor bonus...) About half way through I'd already decided this was probably the best concert I've ever been to IN MY LIFE. And then it just kept getting better. A generous almost-two hours and some really great riffs by your new guitarist--held down by some really FUNKY bass. A much better set and mix than the Mountain Winery show last week, with more emphasis on her older stuff. She even played "I Just Want to See You So Bad" and "Changed the Locks" from "Lucinda Williams." About that (hypothetical) CD of death songs... How about an album of Leonard Cohen covers: "Lucinda Does Leonard." That would be SOOOO hot!

  • Lucinda and Chrissie

by Anonymous on 8/26/10Uptown Theatre Napa - NapaRating: 2 out of 5

Both women in gorgeous voice. However, I felt I was party to some sick love lorn story between Chrissie and the young Welshman. Lucinda had very little stage presence and seemed very unsettled and uncomfortable. Last time to see her.

  • Two great voices

by Occimoron on 8/26/10Uptown Theatre Napa - NapaRating: 4 out of 5

Chrissie has a new musical venture with her new man, but her voice is the same powerful, expressive, beautiful instrument. Some good songs with creative arrangements for the semi-acoustic trio. A couple minor fumbles on stage but they were incorporated into the show with humor which just made it more real and personal. Lucinda's band, especially Val on guitar, was kicking ass! Another incredible powerful voice which sang for what seemed like a couple of hours at full throttle, backed up by amazing guitar work.

  • by fynewyne on 8/26/10Uptown Theatre Napa - NapaRating: 5 out of 5

Both acts were superb in their own right. Chrissie's voice and presence fits so well into the sparse three piece guitar group. It's all about the music, which fully delivered. Lucinda came (as always) with a band which absolutely rocked the house. Her guitarist was particularly on fire on this night. Time flew by.

  • Worth every penny, and more!

    by OldFan57 on 8/26/10Uptown Theatre Napa - NapaRating: 5 out of 5

Opening with Chrissie Hynde and JP Jones and The Fairground Boys was a show in itself! Great music, great connection with the audiance, and really terrific new songs... And Lucinda? She unforgettable! The first song or two were a bit disappointing as the sound guys didn't have her mike right---after a few corrections, her voice came through and the evening was started. She played constantly for about 2 hours, so this concert overall was a long and lovely evening of fabulous music and performers in an incredible setting...Uptown Theater, you've come a very long ways!

  • Lucinda Williams & Chrissy Hynde

by Carbut on 8/26/10Uptown Theatre Napa - NapaRating: 4 out of 5

Chrissy Hynde was phenomenal! Voice rich as ever & can she play the harmonica! Would have loved to hear her play again later in the concert and/or longer w/in her own set. Lucinda Williams did not seem comfortable on stage for about the first hour. She really warmed up about 30 minutes before the show ended. Drums & guitars - fantastic! People were dancing in the aisles during that last half hour - wish it had been that way from the start. By the way, Lucinda Williams was not introduced when she came on stage as Chrissy Hynde was - she just appeared and started. Odd . . .

  • Lucinda ROCKED

by biggin on 8/26/10Uptown Theatre Napa - NapaRating: 4 out of 5

chrissy may love the guy, but jp sucked out loud, and he knows it...what a great band miss lucinda had, again

  • Lucinda was downright giddy!

by Anonymous on 8/26/10Uptown Theatre Napa - NapaRating: 5 out of 5

Took a few songs to loosen up and get her bearings ("Welcome Austin") but by the end of the show she was downright giddy and in great voice. She actually faced the crowd in between numbers and I think I even saw a smile or two.
