Round Up by arrangement with Live Nation present

LUCINDA WILLIAMS

THURSDAY OCTOBER 8, 2015 – Round Up by arrangement with Live Nation is thrilled to announce one of America’s finest singer-songwriters, LUCINDA WILLIAMS will head to New Zealand for one show only, playing Auckland’s Vector Arena on Friday December 4.

It’s been three years since the immensely talented Lucinda Williams graced our shores and we’re honoured to welcome the three-time Grammy Award winner back to New Zealand for a one-off intimate performance. Renowned for marrying rock, blues, country and soul, Lucinda heads our way, with stellar band in tow; including Wallflowers guitarist Stuart Mathis and her irreplaceable rhythm section, David Sutton on bass and Butch Norton on drums.

Tickets for this one-off performance will go on sale at midday Monday, October 12.

My Live Nation and Southern Fork members can be among the first to secure tickets during the pre-sales commencing at midday tomorrow, Friday October 9.

For complete tour and ticketing details, visit: www.livenation.co.nz.

With a recording career spanning 12 albums and nearing four decades, Lucinda Williams is touring on the back of her brilliant 2014 double-album release, Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone, which was voted Album of the Year at the 14th Annual Americana Awards last month.

The album includes 20 new songs with all but two of the tracks written solely by 62-year-old Williams. From the very personal ‘Compassion’ penned by her poet father, Miller Williams and sung into being by Lucinda, to the closing, beautifully epic rendition of JJ Cale’s ‘Magnolia’; Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone is testament to Lucinda’s prowess.

Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone joins a distinguished discography including 1978 debut Ramblin’ on My Mind, 1988’s eponymous breakthrough, Lucinda Williams and 1998’s landmark Car Wheels On A Gravel Road.

most emotionally honest/poignant performance i've seen her do. a gift for her adoring audience.

  • Lucinda breaks hearts!

by anynamesleft on 3/4/11The Ark - Ann ArborRating: 5 out of 5

This was not my first Lucinda show, but it was by far the best. The Ark is a wonderful venue and any show at the ark is worth attending. Lucinda played guitar and sang her soulful songs to a group of fans that appreciated every second of spending a night with her in such an intimate show. Best show I hav ever seen.

It was a remarkable night of music - the set she played spanned her amazing career. I really enjoyed the intimacy of the venue as well as the acoustic show. Just Lucinda and her guitar. Real talent. Outstanding one of the best concerts I have ever attended.

  • WOW!

    by Sunny13 on 3/4/11The Ark - Ann ArborRating: 4 out of 5

Imagine a wonderful night of music and stories with 400 of your closest friends. I always enjoy shows at The Ark and Lucinda was another great performance. Had gotten her newest CD - "Blessed" before the show and ready. She played a lot of my old favorites, along with the new stuff. Already wanting to know about future shows. Keep em coming!

  • listless

by Anonymous on 8/30/10Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 2 out of 5

Lucinda was dull. Hate saying that as I love her music and think she is a terrific artist but this concert was boring. No rapport with her fans, just singing the words of her songs in a blase manner. On the other hand , J P and Chrissie were fantastic. Every thing Lucinda wasn't they were.......Will see them again for sure.

  • lucinda & chrissie make a good combo

by bufa on 8/30/10Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

I loved hearing chrissie hynde's voice in an intimate setting without the pretenders, it was a nice change. she & jp had a nice back and forth sound. lucinda williams played enough of her older songs to satisfy big fans like me and I enjoyed her new tunes. the guitar player was awesome.

  • Dissapointing

by Anonymous on 8/30/10Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 1 out of 5

Lucinda's inaudible lyrics combined with her constant need to read off her music made for an unremarkable preformance. Her singing lacked passion which gave the audience a reason to leave early. Having been warned about her past preformance in the same venue I decided to give her a chance anyway unfortunately that was a mistake.

  • Lucinda & Chrissie in the same evening-amazing!

by judylovescomusic on 8/30/10Queen Mary Events Park - Long BeachRating: 5 out of 5

For the fans who have seen Lucinda since the beginning of her career know this set list was a great display of her work! She played beautifully songs from her first recordings as well as gave us a taste of what her new material is about. The sound was fantastic for an outside venue and such a beautiful place to visit. Will definitely see more shows at this venue. It was easy to get to and staff was friendly. Jeff the Chet's guitar playing was really missed at this show, but the band sounded great!

  • Lucinda!!

by gozinto on 8/29/10Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

Great performance by a master singer/songwriter. I was introduced to her a couple of years ago and this is the second time I've seen her at Humphrey's. Great venue, smaller than most, so more intimate. My wife saw her for the first time. Unfortunately, the opening act, Chrissie Hynde, brought her much younger boyfriend with her and he just isn't up to par. Plus the majority of the songs were about their relationship, and in this case, was almost embarrassing for someone of her caliber. That's the only reason I gave the concert four stars instead of five.

  • Fantastic concert!

by dsgev on 8/29/10Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

Both shows were incredible. What talent! Chrissie and JP will be back in September with their full band. Can't wait.

  • Lucinda doesn't deliver the goods

by SeanInUpland on 8/29/10Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 3 out of 5

I love her songs, her CDs and up until last night her concerts. She has alwasy needed to have her notebook in front of her and I'm OK with that. But last night it was VERY uncomfortable watching her have to look down at it for nearly every verse of nearly every song. And then to have to hear her sing Joy, while whining about Sarah Palin, the Tea Party, etc. taking away her joy. How childish. If Sarah Palin can take away someone's joy, that joy is a very shallow joy. And Lucinda came off sounding very shallow. She also whined, somewhat unprofessionally, about the sound system (stage monitors - not the overall sound) and had a nearly 5 minute consultation with the sound guys about it. I hope she just had a bad night. Her band though was totally awesome. Great lead guitarist from a band named Jack Shit that I now want to see. Great bass player who swapped in an upright for several songs and bowed it for at least one. And the drummer did much more than just keep the beat. I don't know if these 3 played much together before but if not they are utmost professional to have worked together so well as a backup band. Best band I've seen LW play with.

  • San Diego Show August 27,2010

by JMDelMar on 8/28/10Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 1 out of 5

The show was a real disappointment. Lucinda was just phoning it in. She's always had her music out, but this time it seemed she couldn't make it through a single song without reading the lyrics. Her band was great, but she seemed tired and unenthusiastic. Chrissis sounded great, but her new songs with JP are so, so. Also a little TMI on the May/September romance thing. Still, Chrissie was charming and entertaining. Will love to see her back with the Pretenders!

  • Chrissy, spectacular, Lucinda still rocking!

by Koamahalo on 8/28/10Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

I was blown away by Chrissey and her bandmates, Chrissey's voice is still amazing!! Loved JP, a total original! We've seen Lucinda many times at Humphrey's, really, really missed Doug Pettibone at this event.

  • Lucinda Williams / Chrissie Hynde

by zyzabc on 8/28/10Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 2 out of 5

Very disappointed in this show. I was under the impression from the promo for the show that Lucinda and Chrissy would be singing together. They both seemed unenthusiastic to be there and the show was not very exciting at all. I attend several shows each yaer at humphreys and this was not one that I would recommend or come back for.

  • lucinda willaims and chrissie hynde

by zyzabc on 8/28/10Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 2 out of 5

The show was NOT what I expected. I was under the impression from the advertising that they (Lucinda and ChrissY) would be singing together. They both seemed unenthusiastic and the show was only so so. I was disappointed in the over feeling from both singers.

  • A distracted Lucinda

by Greenflash98 on 8/28/10Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

This was my third LW show at Humphrey's and I have to say--probably my least favorite. Lucinda came out looking distracted and bothered by something, and was not very interactive with the audience. Which she normally is, and it's one of my favorite things about her. She just seemed kinda down for the first five or six songs. She then came out and said that the sound equipment was not right, but they seemed to get it fixed, and she cheered up a bit, played some of her rockers, and the show got better, but still never really reached out much to the audience. I was left a little disappointed, although it was a pretty good set, it was kinda short (75 minutes). But everyone loves her, I can only think she may have been having a bad night.

  • Lucinda going thru the motions

by musicSD on 8/28/10Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 3 out of 5

Lucinda seemed to be kind of going through the motions, and the show lacked real energy or feel(I've sen her 4 times now). It's also a bit distracting to see her look down at her lyrics stand every couple of lines, it breaks the flow. Lucinda's latest lead guitarist is very talented, he excelled on the louder blues solos. Butch is the drummer, and his Mom was there - she was quite happy!

  • Lucinda amazing as always

by amazing11 on 8/28/10Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

Loved the setting.... Great to see Chrissie again....Like her better with the Pretenders though...Lucinda was as powerful as always...And so gracious. I did not like the crowd however. where did all of these mean....Rude men come from...The Yacht Club.,..must have gotten a deal on Tix.Like this was a jazz show.....I will never come back to Humphreys again....To Bad Beautiful venue to see live music....I paid...to have a good time, laugh..clap etc... These rude Men....Ruined it for me...and my guests..

  • Chrissie--hot; Lucinda--not

by ChicagoSouthSide on 8/28/10Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 3 out of 5

The usual uncomfortable Humphreys seating (think coach on the worst airline you have ever taken), along with the usual poor sound board work made this an extremely difficult event to watch. Chrissie's voice and stage presence were spot on. JP Jones had occasional flairs of excellence. While they were a bit chatty, the three piece group was well rehearsed and tight. On the other hand, Lucinda and her band did not appear in sync. While the sound at Humphreys frustrated Ms. Williams, it could hardly explain why the group's performance sounded like they just met this week. It's curious that Lucinda had to refer to written lyrics even on some of her best known hits. The guitarist played some wonderful blues licks, but, I wonder, how they fit into the songs being performed. Major disappointment! Left early, as did many.

  • Disappointed

by PBahab on 8/28/10Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 1 out of 5

I was never a big fan of the Pretenders, but I thought Chrissie had a great voice and this would be a chance to see someone new. When I saw the article in the newspaper about her new relationship and an example of their lyrics, I thought the writing was trite. When they began, all my suspicions were confirmed. A set of nothing but self-centered or maudlin songs. Good voices, but no hooks or storytelling. We hoped Lucinda would save the day -- not. Her album Car Wheels on a Gravel Road is an all-time favorite. In my opinion, it's been down hill ever since. I have seen her several times, and with each performance she has become less compelling. She reads the lyrics off a sheet of paper next to her, and subjects the audience to one dirge after another. The tempo of her songs seem to be in a narrow range and when she sings a song about being happy, it doesn't sound like she is. A lot of people walked out as we finally did. Another great singing voice wasted by the artist.
