Round Up by arrangement with Live Nation present

LUCINDA WILLIAMS

THURSDAY OCTOBER 8, 2015 – Round Up by arrangement with Live Nation is thrilled to announce one of America’s finest singer-songwriters, LUCINDA WILLIAMS will head to New Zealand for one show only, playing Auckland’s Vector Arena on Friday December 4.

It’s been three years since the immensely talented Lucinda Williams graced our shores and we’re honoured to welcome the three-time Grammy Award winner back to New Zealand for a one-off intimate performance. Renowned for marrying rock, blues, country and soul, Lucinda heads our way, with stellar band in tow; including Wallflowers guitarist Stuart Mathis and her irreplaceable rhythm section, David Sutton on bass and Butch Norton on drums.

Tickets for this one-off performance will go on sale at midday Monday, October 12.

My Live Nation and Southern Fork members can be among the first to secure tickets during the pre-sales commencing at midday tomorrow, Friday October 9.

For complete tour and ticketing details, visit: www.livenation.co.nz.

With a recording career spanning 12 albums and nearing four decades, Lucinda Williams is touring on the back of her brilliant 2014 double-album release, Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone, which was voted Album of the Year at the 14th Annual Americana Awards last month.

The album includes 20 new songs with all but two of the tracks written solely by 62-year-old Williams. From the very personal ‘Compassion’ penned by her poet father, Miller Williams and sung into being by Lucinda, to the closing, beautifully epic rendition of JJ Cale’s ‘Magnolia’; Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone is testament to Lucinda’s prowess.

Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone joins a distinguished discography including 1978 debut Ramblin’ on My Mind, 1988’s eponymous breakthrough, Lucinda Williams and 1998’s landmark Car Wheels On A Gravel Road.

  • Too old for Webster Hall

by cowboyfromny on 3/15/11Webster Hall - New YorkRating: 1 out of 5

Lucinda is wonderful. I just love her, but the whole experience was horrendous. I am so dissappointed. I had plans for early Sunday morning so when I saw that she was doing a concert on a Saturday at 6pm I just jumped at it. However, I did not realize, nor do I think it was stated anywhere that 6pm meant that is the time they open the doors. I got there 5:40 for this 6pm concert only to be told that it starts at 7:30 and that once you go in you can't reenter. We strolled the neighborhood until 7pm. When we went in we discovered that it was standing room only. This too I was not aware of. We stood for an hour. We bought overpriced drinks. She came on at 8pm and the place was packed. We were able to survive an hour of the concert. Of course I had a hard time seeing her, heads in front of me. Rude people talking the entire time. People banging into you, pushing past you. A beer salesman pushing through with a huge barrel of beer. This was not fun. I consider myself a pretty active, open 60 year old and have rocked with the best of them, but this was not pleasant. I do feel that an effort to let people know that 6pm does not mean 6pm and that when you get the tickets it says it a bit clearer. My tickets had seat numbers on them.

  • Lucinda Rocks!

by Cava on 3/15/11Webster Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

What a fantastic show. Her guitarist from LA was unbelievable and Lucinda's voice sounded so good. The crowd was jumping up and down and everyone was having a fantastic time. I've been a Lucinda fan for years now and this was my first time seeing her, I LOVE her even more, and I didn't think that was possible!

  • Lucinda keeps getting better

by Fredywonderful on 3/14/11Webster Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Lucinda loves this type setting where the audience is standing, they are close to the stage and her, and they are there because they love her, her lyrics and her music. She seems to thrive on this intimacy and draw on the crowds energy. Fantastic as usual.

  • by Anonymous on 3/14/11Webster Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Lucinda put on a great show. The crowd loved it! She sounded really good and played for over 2 hours. She has a pretty incredible guitarist with her now, could of always had this guy, not really sure. Anyway, if she is coming to your area the show is definitely worth the ticket!

  • Always Good

by bluesharpbob on 3/14/11Webster Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Lucinda & her band were great,as usual. A little less engaged with the audience than the last time I saw her. New guitarist Val McCallum is a worthy replacement for the great Doug Pettibone.

  • by Anonymous on 3/14/11Webster Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Lucinda was in great voice and the band played inspired accompaniment to to a mix of old and new material. Standing room only at Webster Hall in NYC but I don't think anyone in the sold-out audience seemed to mind.

  • Lucinda at Webster Hall 3-12

by Harvlis on 3/14/11Webster Hall - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

Although, you have to stand to see an act at Webster Hall, the size of the theatre and the sound quality make it all worth while. Lucinda Williams is a classic performer. Her voice is unique and her songwriting is exceptional. She mixes hard driving rockers with heart wrenching ballads. If you are into her voice, you will leave her concerts with a big smile on your face. Her new album, Blessed, had some great new offerings for Lucinda to show off. You could tell that, when the crowd gave her that heavy applause for one of her new tunes, she was happy and proud for her new baby. She has a great songbook to choose from and the new album just adds to that assortment. The tickets were $35, which I find to be a breath of sanity in an out of control world.

  • Lucinda Williams rocks the world!

by kepu on 3/14/11Webster Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

This was one of the best shows I've ever seen. Lucinda played hits from nearly all her albums as well as playing six songs off of Blessed. The venue was clean and friendly, her band ROCKED, and Lucinda was perfect. I wanted her to play all night.

  • Great party with Lucinda

by Geshy on 3/14/11Webster Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Lucinda and her band were in great spirits on saturday night!- The sound was great and Lucinda sounded just as well as always- The concert was just under 2 hours and it rocked from start to finish-

  • Lucinda was great!

    by Chelle1058 on 3/14/11Webster Hall - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

Wow, how about that woman? She was great tonight. It's always a great night when Lucinda is in a great mood. Believe me, I have seen this woman have total meltdowns on stage. Thank God the audience really got into her. She seems to need that to boost her self esteem. Why? Got me.... She is incredible, and she looked awesome!!!! Married life must be agreeing with her.

  • by bklynred on 3/14/11Webster Hall - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

She played mostly new music and sounded awesome....

  • by Anonymous on 3/14/11Webster Hall - New YorkRating: 1 out of 5

She didn't remember the lyric's keep needed to look down and read them; which was very distracting- although her voice still sounded as sweet as ever. I hope it just was a bad night and not the beginning of a trend.

  • An American Treasure

by bplofty on 3/14/11Webster Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Lucinda was at the top of her game. She is one of a kind, one taste and you are addicted. Her new guitarist has helped Lucinda take her songs that start as a beautiful yet intensely personal ballad into a crescendo of heart pounding rock and roll. It was all smile, all night. What a great show.

  • Off The Hook!

by Eddieboy on 3/13/11Webster Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Lucinda was great! I've been going to shows for a long time and this is right up there with the best of them. Great venue. What can I say. It was a wonderful night.

  • Lu in NYC

by DjangoBop on 3/13/11Webster Hall - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

This was th 11th time I have seen Lucinda. No opening act, and the show began rather early (8pm). In my mind she is more of a late night gal. I perfer more of a southern vibe, which seemd to be missing here. The show was certainly good, although not my favorite. The people near me seemed to like it very much. There was some surprise that the show rocked as much as it did given the more acoustic trend in some of her recent music.

She was in good spirits and soon we were too. A truly religious happening...

  • Friday night with Lucinda at Webster Hall

by TonyNYC on 3/13/11Webster Hall - New YorkRating: 3 out of 5

I'm a big Lucinda Williams fan and basically feel that her Car Wheels album was about the best one put out in whatever decade (90's?) it came out in and every other album she's done is okay to pretty good with usually 2-3 killer cuts on them. She's got a new album out, Blessed, that I've played a few times and I love, love the title cut and the closer this lovely, sweet one called Kiss Like Your Kiss. She's playing two sold out nights at Webster Hall and I'm annoyed because I'm standing up and I thought Lucinda had evolved to seated places and damn it's so crowded that I could have unnoticed prison sex with the guy in front of me if I liked guys. Anyway, she comes out at 8:00 with the basic bass, drums and lead guitar guy and damn they sounded so good and right and tight and all of those other words non-musicians like myself use when everything seems to fit perfectly and they look like they're having a good time on stage and all night Lucinda is singing so strong and sweet and clear (I was even able to make out the words for the new songs I don't know) with her soft and sexy slur. I think she sounds better than I ever heard before. She opens with I Just Wanted To See You and even without the little organ fills this makes me happy and throughout the night she gives a pretty good sample from all her records with maybe a half a dozen new cuts here and there. I didn't recognize the second song, a kind of rockabilly cut, that I thought might be a cover. But as the night goes on I start to remember that except when I saw her at this tiny club Tramps right before Car Wheels came out and she played so much of that masterpiece, she never chooses to play the songs of her's I want to hear. I am probably in the minority, but I just don't go for her rockier, bluesier, louder songs, scorned woman songs about the losers she hooked up with and how bad, sad they made her feel and I prefer her quieter, maybe more vulnerable and sweeter love ballads which just seem more original and much better written with more incisive telling details than songs like Honey Bee, Unsuffer Me and I really dislike, no completely hate, I Changed The Locks and she's played that every time I see her. (I know Tom petty recorded it and he's super cool, but I like Passionate Kisses much much better even if the totally uncool Mary Chapin Carpenter actually had a big hit with it) I mean I am more than happy to hear her new songs and Blessed is the first encore and the highlight of the night for me. She sings the litany of who she's been blessed by and the guitar just soars and builds and left me completely moved. Convince Me live convinced me that it was a much better song than I thought. Buttercup and Seeing Black were both easy on the ears, but unmemorable and Copenhagen, a different kind of song for her, made me want to go home and listen to it more closely. And Born To Be Loved bored the crap out of me with it's quiet and mundane repeated self help invocations and dull melody. The only other songs she played last night that I really really wanted to hear her play was Essence which sounded great, the rap-like Righteously with the Coltrane-ish guitar and Metal Firecraker which unfortunately she cut off in the first verse. She blamed her untuned guitar, but it seemed she might have forgotten the words. Unfortunately she never came back to it. Songs that I semi-like that she did wonderfully last night were Pineola & Drunken Angel & Tears Of Joy & Fruits Of My Labour & Real Live Bleeding Fingers and Broken Guitar Strings. Songs that I can't stand at all that she did wonderfully and I semi-enjoyed were Get Right With God and C'mon though I always appreciate her lack of subtlety and how she gets back at some guy for breaking her heart by telling him over and over he never satisfied her sexually, no not ever, not even close, not once. Lucinda played for a good two straight hours and every thing played was about as good as they could be played and everybody seemed happy, but I went home missing and wishing for Something About What Happens When We Talk, Right In Time, Too Cool To Be Forgotten, Lake Charles, Jackson, World Without Tears, Those Three days, Like A Rose, I Envy The Wind, Words, Kiss Like Your Kiss. Still, to quote Seinfeld, it's me and not her.

  • Lucinda Williams, I've died and gone to heaven

by oldgobbler on 3/7/11The Ark - Ann ArborRating: 5 out of 5

Ms. Williams was absolutely stunning. To have the opportunity to see her in a small, intimate venue such as the Ark was a show not to be missed. I have had the pleasure of seeing her many times but never in such a one woman show as she provided for the sold out crowd in Ann Arbor on a cold winters night last Wednsday. Her vocals were piercing and subtle, her guitar work was spot on. She showcased several of the songs off the supurbly crafted new album "Blessed", what a beautiful record, front to back! And of course the rest of the shows offerings were the creme d le creme from the rest of her extensive catalog. Lucinda was generous with her time by providing us with two hours of her music which included three encores. Heres hoping Lucinda will be coming back to Michigan to showcase here great new record with the assistance of her magnificant band. Thanks Lucinda, I'll be seeing you down the road somewhere, Peace! Jim

  • by Anonymous on 3/4/11The Ark - Ann ArborRating: 4 out of 5

This my first time to the Ark in Ann Arbor was also my first time to see Lucinda. I really enjoyed both of them! It was Lucinda on stage with an acoustic guitar in a small, intimate setting with a crowd of ~400 people. Started with "World without tears" - ended with "Blessed".

  • Just great

    by donnie1777 on 3/4/11The Ark - Ann ArborRating: 5 out of 5

Lucinda Williams at the Ark in Ann Arbor was a completely accustic set. Apparently, while on her current tour she has been "sneaking" away to do these solo shows while her band travels to the next full concert city (Toronto she announced during the show). This set was the equavelent of her "kitchen tapes" in the 2-disc set of the "Blessing" CD. She was so great. Lucinda is a very genuine person and seemed to truly appreciate the 400 person sold-out crowd. We came away feeling that we have truly experienced Lucinda Williams - we love her here. Hope she comes back soon.
