Lucinda's band was tight, her voice was strong and the acoustics were magnificent. My first time at the Cobb Energy Center. What a great venue!

Round Up by arrangement with Live Nation present
LUCINDA WILLIAMS
THURSDAY OCTOBER 8, 2015 – Round Up by arrangement with Live Nation is thrilled to announce one of America’s finest singer-songwriters, LUCINDA WILLIAMS will head to New Zealand for one show only, playing Auckland’s Vector Arena on Friday December 4.
It’s been three years since the immensely talented Lucinda Williams graced our shores and we’re honoured to welcome the three-time Grammy Award winner back to New Zealand for a one-off intimate performance. Renowned for marrying rock, blues, country and soul, Lucinda heads our way, with stellar band in tow; including Wallflowers guitarist Stuart Mathis and her irreplaceable rhythm section, David Sutton on bass and Butch Norton on drums.
Tickets for this one-off performance will go on sale at midday Monday, October 12.
My Live Nation and Southern Fork members can be among the first to secure tickets during the pre-sales commencing at midday tomorrow, Friday October 9.
For complete tour and ticketing details, visit: www.livenation.co.nz.
With a recording career spanning 12 albums and nearing four decades, Lucinda Williams is touring on the back of her brilliant 2014 double-album release, Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone, which was voted Album of the Year at the 14th Annual Americana Awards last month.
The album includes 20 new songs with all but two of the tracks written solely by 62-year-old Williams. From the very personal ‘Compassion’ penned by her poet father, Miller Williams and sung into being by Lucinda, to the closing, beautifully epic rendition of JJ Cale’s ‘Magnolia’; Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone is testament to Lucinda’s prowess.
Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone joins a distinguished discography including 1978 debut Ramblin’ on My Mind, 1988’s eponymous breakthrough, Lucinda Williams and 1998’s landmark Car Wheels On A Gravel Road.

Great show and first time at the venue which was also great and had perfect acoustics.
Stone cold killer of a show.
by ATLEX on 5/2/11Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5Two hours, non-stop, rockin' the house. Minimal chatter and banter, just a great, great show.
Lucinda Rocks!
by Picker351 on 5/2/11Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5Excellent show with plenty of variety, great musicians and setlist. Lu and her crews just get better and better. The instruments, amp tones and arrangements were absolutely incredible. It was great that she included Rick Richards (Georgia Satellites) and the Wrights as local guests and she really set a great example of how to deliver in the deep south. You can literally feel the love and appreciation from her. Sound system was excellent without any issues. The venue was very clean and staff helpful. One big complaint is that there are not enough exits from the rows so that people are constantly walking past you going and coming and a lot of people did just that all evening. A lot of others carried on a lot of unrelated conversation that I found disruptive so my only complaints are layout of row exits and some of the particular audience at this show. May be the North Atlanta crowd but some should stay home or go to talk and socialize somewhere else. This artist and band deserve your undivided attention.
Lucinda is great studio musician
by Studiofan on 5/2/11Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - AtlantaRating: 2 out of 5Lucinda still has a great voice and the band is great, but the energy is so low during a concert. It's actually quite depresting. Pick up her albums, but don't go to the show. I've seen 8 shows and this is my last.
Great show Lu and band
by danmatt on 5/2/11Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5I was totally blown away by her guitarist and Lucinda did her usually fantastic job of building the set to a crescendo
Just go.
by Anonymous on 5/1/11Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5Don't be fooled if all you own is West and you're not sure what her concert is like. The words really do come through. Keep it and go see her in concert. Just go. Lucinda and her band rocked the Cobb Energy Center down, to - the - GROUND!
Fine Show
by woodswalker21 on 5/1/11Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5I went at the last minute and boy am I glad I did. Lu's voice was spot on and the band was so tight. Great show! Thank you.

Pretty lame. The concert could have benefitted greatly if it had a much more blues feel to it. The lead guitarist missed several golden opportunities to really rip a great solo, but was not capable. The drummer flailed wildly on several songs, but unfortunately was much fury signifying nothing. Ms Williams relies too much on her Louisiana drawl.
Not the greatest
by Arual on 5/1/11Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - AtlantaRating: 1 out of 5With the exception of Lucinda's voice and the occasional excellence from the bass player, this concert was way below expectations. It was like a Saturday Night Live skit that went on waaaaay too long.
Lucinda Rocks
by GSFranz on 5/1/11Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5Lucinda Williams and her band performed a two hour set of her best songs, old and new.She was amazing. The musicians were excellent, particularly her young guitar player. Together they rocked! The venue was really nice.More than once the fans were on their feet.
Never Disappointing.
by Luckytiger on 5/1/11Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5Great show as always. Played everything you would want to hear. Guitarist was awsome however no need to highlight him on every song. "Essence" and "Righteously" were given a slightly differnt treatment that I could have done without. I never miss her when she comes to town and was not disappointed.
hmmmm....
by Spring79 on 5/1/11Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5Fewer guitar solos, more Lucinda singing. That is all.
Inspirational
by ARTBEAR on 5/1/11Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5What makes Lucinda Williams so powerful a singer/songwriter is the overwhelming passion that imbues her work. That is, it is deeply felt and unafraid to jump in to the sometimes murky depths of living. In the portraits she paints, though about things that might be regrettable or tough, there is a kind of beauty in the way she speaks about and frames them. She sang a range of material from early compositions to her most recent work on "Blessed". He strongest works are her ballads and those are the songs for which her voice is most well-suiting. The authenticity in these gut-searing songs is palpable. It is this reviewer's opinion that these "pre-Gravel" tunes are her best much like Bruce Springsteen’s "pre-Born in the US tunes" are his most powerful. Nevertheless, Lucinda energized the crowd with her rock out performance during the last portions of the two-hour plus concert. Perhaps breaks from the "blue" material were needed. Her band particularly suits her. The bassist traded off between acoustic and electric instruments. Drumming provided a strong foundation in beat, but the method did not over power or grandstand, expect in one solo near the end of the concert. Her new guitarist is truly a virtuoso. He provided incredible "fills" of sound that accented and supported Lucinda's vocals. On occasion he would break out in well-timed bursts of lead displaying an exceptional technical mastery of the guitar and effects pedals. In many ways he reminded this reviewer of those great Nashville session players one can hear at the honky tonks in that city. It's as if this young guitarist has listened to and totally absorbed every guitar style and voice that is out there and was able to piece each in where it best fit. Lucinda's encore was quite a crowd-pleaser. Her depression era blue's number was as she said, relevant for the present time. The band ended the night with Buffalo Springfield's "For What it's Worth", one of the best anti-war anthems ever recorded. For this reviewer, this was the only disappointing thing about the concert. Lucinda's cover did not capture the urgency of the tune, but rather, seemed to treat the grave song in a superficial manner as if to just use it, not respect it. At this time I looked out into the mostly middle aged crowd, many who appeared to be successful professional types (the hippies who became corporate allied yuppies), and wondered how many would return to work on Monday with that spirit of revolt and activism. Still, the concert overall was rather exceptional.
Lucinda needs to get back to her roots.
by HotlantaGrrl on 5/1/11Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - AtlantaRating: 2 out of 5I have admired Lucinda Williams for many years as a poet who writes and sings her own songs. It seems from this performance she is trying too hard to showcase the electric guitar chops of her lead player. Enough already with the guitar solos! I didn't come to hear that, I came to you Lucinda. Really a disappointing evening.
Lucinda was awesome!
by Meme26 on 5/1/11Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5I bought tickets for my husband for an anniversary present ( he loves her music!) and we went to see her at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. It was our first time there for an event and the acoustics were amazing......Lucinda was terrific and we thoroughly enjoyed the concert! The staff at the Centre was so nice, I am recovering from leg surgery and they went out of their way to accommodate us, bringing a wheelchair out to the curb to get me and then taking me straight to my seat before the show and then returned to get me when the concert was over! Outstanding, we had a great evening.....her music rocks! Don't miss the chance to go see her!
Lucinda Looming Large
by MikeOso on 5/1/11Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5Exquisite execution of the style that is Lucinda. Awesome voice, songwriting, stage presence and backup band - especially the guitarist. If you are even slightly into alt-country-folk-rock, do not miss this mature artist that is beautifully pioneering the way of advanced age female performers.

Lucinda Williams and her band were amazing. Such artistry, such talent. The sound quality in the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center was something that I haven't heard in a long time either.

Lucinda Williams is a hidden treasure and everyone should see her at least once. I listen to a wide variety of music and she is one of the few singers that just astounds me. She started at about 9:15 and played for about two and a half hours. As for The Madison Theater where I saw her, the sound as great and service at the bar was quick and friendly.
