LUCINDA WILLIAMS

THURSDAY OCTOBER 8, 2015 – Round Up by arrangement with Live Nation is thrilled to announce one of America’s finest singer-songwriters, LUCINDA WILLIAMS will head to New Zealand for one show only, playing Auckland’s Vector Arena on Friday December 4.

Ā

It’s been three years since the immensely talented Lucinda Williams graced our shores and we’re honoured to welcome the three-time Grammy Award winner back to New Zealand for a one-off intimate performance. Renowned for marrying rock, blues, country and soul, Lucinda heads our way, with stellar band in tow; including Wallflowers guitarist Stuart Mathis and her irreplaceable rhythm section, David Sutton on bass and Butch Norton on drums.

Ā

Tickets for this one-off performance will go on sale at midday Monday, October 12.

Ā

My Live Nation and Southern Fork members can be among the first to secure tickets during the pre-sales commencing at midday tomorrow, Friday October 9.

Ā

With aĀ recording career spanning 12 albums and nearing four decades, Lucinda Williams is touring on the back of her brilliant 2014Ā double-album release, Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone, which was voted Album of the Year at the 14th Annual Americana Awards last month.

Ā

The album includes 20 new songs with all but two of the tracks written solely by 62-year-old Williams. From the very personal ā€˜Compassion’ penned by her poet father, Miller Williams and sung into being by Lucinda, to the closing, beautifully epic rendition of JJ Cale’s ā€˜Magnolia’; Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone is testament to Lucinda’s prowess.

Ā

Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone joins a distinguished discography including 1978 debut Ramblin’ on My Mind, 1988’s eponymous breakthrough, Lucinda Williams and 1998’s landmark Car Wheels On A Gravel Road.

  • So Wonderful

    by LuxTempo on 10/4/24Rialto Theatre-Tucson - TucsonRating: 5 out of 5

Lucinda Williams is so unique and so authentic. Her show at the Rialto in Tucson was a combination of story telling (from her book), songs and film montages apropos to the music and stories. Beautiful concert with a true legend. My only disappointment is that the seats at the Rialto were really uncomfortable. But I still give the show 5 stars. I'd give it more if I could.

  • She still sounds great šŸ‘

    by JW on 10/4/24Rialto Theatre-Tucson - TucsonRating: 5 out of 5

Great band. Though Lucinda's mobility was greatly affected by a stroke she suffered a few years ago, her voice is still the same. Killer band, great sound thanks to her top notch FOH engineer.

  • Larx in Tucson

    by Mandy on 10/4/24Rialto Theatre-Tucson - TucsonRating: 4 out of 5

In excellent voice, with a great band of eclectic souls, Lucinda hit some hot spots in her career and wandered down a few backroads in the course of nearly 3 hours in Arizona. Kinda like sitting around in a living room and reminiscing.

  • Fantastic

    by WLG on 10/4/24Rialto Theatre-Tucson - TucsonRating: 5 out of 5

This was the most unique, moving concert I have ever experienced. It was fascinating learning about Lucinda’s life and the background on her songs. Her voice is spot on and the band better than ever. I could have listened for hours more. I am in awe of Lucinda. I’m so happy she didn’t give up and is still entertaining us.

  • New to the Sound w/Lucinda and Mike

by Jmac on 10/3/24The Sound - Del MarRating: 5 out of 5

This was our first show at the Sound. Access was easy, parking cost $20 (which was unexpected), not outrageous. We found a spot that was close to the venue and there were plenty of spots, ( it is the fairgrounds!). When we got inside we discovered they don’t provide seating for General Admission patrons. That was a deal breaker and we asked for seats (my partner was severely injured in a horse accident and can’t stand for long periods of time), we were provided good seats with no issues (they did suggest that we request handicapped seats if we come back.). Anyway, it all worked out fine with everyone happy! The show was great, good sound, well mixed and balanced. Both bands, Lucinda Williams and her band as well as Mike Campbells’ Dirty Knobs, were great. It was cool to see Doug Pettibone playing with Lucinda, (we’ve seen him numerous times playing with Tim Flannery and it’s was awesome to see him in this lineup.) Great venue, great music, great time! Also just a shoutout to Mike Campbell who is one of the best players performing today, has amazing technique and tone! But, better yet he appears to be a real gentleman! He noted how he comped tickets to a woman who had helped his wife years back! And moreover, he helped Lucinda off the stage at the end of the show (she has some mobility impairment.) a real class act!

  • First time

by TT on 10/3/24The Sound - Del MarRating: 3 out of 5

For some reason she went on first and had her opener come on after which sucked. Her choice of songs wasn’t the best. What songs she did play that I liked where very good.

  • The sound was an amazing

by Lee on 10/3/24The Sound - Del MarRating: 5 out of 5

Great venue The SOUND- Lucinda Williams was excellent, her voice Legendary! And the bands sound was phenomenal and the drummer was one of the best we’ve ever seen The rusty knobs not so good - way too loud Seemed like they were trying too hard … we left after the 3 rd song- such a shame …

  • Excellent

by DonJ on 10/2/24The Sound - Del MarRating: 5 out of 5

Both Lucinda and the Dirty Knobs were very, very good. Accomplished musicians, great venue and a wonderful atmosphere. Tom Campbell was named one of Rolling Stone’s Top 100 guitarists ever and it was so evident at this show. He can play any type of style or tempo. As we all grow older I realize that groups and music like this are leaving us. I am making it a point to see as much of them as possible.

  • Great show/Great venue

by Cheryl the Music Lover on 10/2/24The Sound - Del MarRating: 5 out of 5

Lucinda Williams is one of those national treasures that not enough people know about. Her songwriting is right on target in so many ways. And her delivery is the best. Having a stroke changes things, but her spirit is ā€œright in timeā€ and exceedingly special. Mike Campbell and the Dirty Knobs blew me away. He played with Tom Petty for 50 years and seems to embody Petty wholeheartedly. I was blown away! The Sound in Del Mar is a new and very cool venue. I look forward to more shows there in the future! šŸŽ¶šŸ’œšŸŽ¶

  • Lucinda sounds great! Inspirational!!

by jkpatter on 10/2/24The Sound - Del MarRating: 5 out of 5

Lucinda's voice is still wonderful, and spot on! Performing as she does after health issues is very inspirational. Teaming with Mike Campbell and the Dirty Knobs was magical. No one is better than Campbell on guitar, and his personality and style is outstanding.. His esteem and respect for Lucinda was so very evident. Such a great rocking show!!

  • A Wonderful Moment

  • Great Concert!

by Barbs on 9/30/24Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

I specifically bought these tickets to see Mike Campbell and the Dirty Knobs, so Lucinda was a fantastic bonus! They were both awesome on their own, and a real treat together. The Fox is always a fun venue - we also had drinks and appetizers at The Den before the show. Except for the high prices of everything (2 'boxes' of water cost $11.02), it was a great date night! Of course, I didn't negatively impact my rating because of the high prices - that's just our new normal I suppose.

  • We love Lu

by Vince on 9/30/24The Bellwether - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

She gave a spectacular performance as always. Drunken Angel, Joy, Fruits of My Labor, some great new songs, and a Neil Young cover, Rockin In the Free World. With Mike Campbell, she performed some more great classics.

  • Fantastic

Lucinda sounded great. Band was tight. Sound was perfect. Nice venue. A great evening.

  • Lovely Lu

by Kentucky on 9/30/24The Bellwether - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first visit to the Bellwether, it’s a great venue, id be stoked to see any of my faves there. Lucinda’s performance was top shelf! Her band was on fire šŸ”„ and Lucinda performed amazingly, her voice is a southern angel, i feel blessed and honored to of been in her presence. I was disappointed with Mike Campbell and the dirty knobs, not sure what was up with them, they were way to loud, their tempos were rushed and had little to no dynamics, they did manage to redeem themselves with a few tunes, and Lu and her band joining Mike at the end for 4 tunes was terrific. I’ll be back, and am buying tickets for Emmylou in March this week! Cheers

  • Disappointing

by Ginger on 9/30/24The Bellwether - Los AngelesRating: 2 out of 5

This show was billed with Lucinda Williams as the headliner at the Bellwether. However, when we arrived she was already onstage opening. The bartender told us that they had organized the show a bit differently, and that Lucinda was going to play a few songs and then Mike Campbell would play and then Lucinda would come back with a follow up set. This did not happen. Lucinda was amazing. She did look tired and of course we were aware of her recent health issues, so this change in scheduling made sense. We enjoyed the 6 songs she played and headed up to the bar for a drink to wait for Mike Campbell to come on. The upstairs bar had several seats around it so we grabbed a seat and chatted about the first part of the show. The bartender saw us and we saw her getting drinks for others and happily waited. After about ten minutes we noticed that a line had formed at the bar and that the bartender was only serving drinks to anyone in line. We got her attention and said we'd love to be served when she had a second. She then informed us if we wanted a drink we'd need to stand up and go to the back of the (now very long) line that had formed. This was a total bummer. She was rude and nasty - schoolmarm-y, and smug. She had plent of opportunity to explain "the rules"of getting served at the bar, but didn't. She knew we'd been there prior to the line forming. It was just rude and made us feel unwelcome and unappreciated. My bf and I are both in the service industry and would have tipped her generously if she'd explained "the rules"at any point prior to our requesting to be served at a bar seat which - in almost ANY OTHER bar would be a place to expect service. This really put a bad spin on an evening that was already off to a disappointing start. We went downstairs and got a drink there, watched a bit of Mike Campbell and then left. Our chat home was about the great service we had at the bar at Nick & Stef's before the show (shout out to the bartender there!)

  • Nothing Short of Wonderful!!!

by Patti Z on 9/30/24The Bellwether - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Lucinda and her band were spot on. Mike Campbell and his band were also amazing. True talent never dies and that was apparent at the Bellwether. Beyond fantastic!!!! Bravo to both Lucinda, Mike, and their bands!!!

  • Great show with two great artists

by Stephenace on 9/30/24The Bellwether - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

The incomparable Lucinda Williams and her band opened with an hour of performance. One of her songs was a touching piece about memories of friends who had passed. She dedicated it to Tom Petty. Then Mike Campbell (formerly lead guitarist for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers) and the Dirty knobs did an hourlong set. As a bonus Lucinda and some of her band joined Mike and some of his band for another 45 minutes! One highlight of this set was a fun rendition of the rock classic ā€œWild Thing.ā€ I should also mention that at the end of Lucinda’s set she finished with a rising cover of Neil Youg’s ā€œRockin’ in the Free World.ā€ There were Tom petty numbers sprinkled through the entire evening. The Belwether is the perfect venue for an intimate concert event. This was one of the best two-act performances I have ever seen.

  • What an experience…

Enjoyed a wonderful night with Lucinda Williams and Mike Campbell and the Dirty Knobs at Fox Theatre, Oakland. Purchased front and center tickets, the only way to go!!!
