About

Cameron Mackintosh presents the acclaimed production of Boublil and Schönberg's Tony Award-winning musical phenomenon, Les Misérables. This brilliant staging has taken the world by storm and has been hailed as "a reborn dream of a production" (Daily Telegraph).

Set against the backdrop of 19th century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption-a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. The magnificent score of Les Misérables includes the songs "I Dreamed a Dream," "On My Own," "Bring Him Home," "One Day More" and many more.

  • Les Mis - Anything but miserable!

by Marykitt on 2/8/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I was totaly amazed with the talent in this production. Each voice was unique and beatifully so. The set captured the feeling of the era. I was brought to tears, not just by the story line, but by the talent on stage. Once again, Broadway in Chicago does not disapoint.

  • I was miserable @ Les Miserables

by Raeph on 2/8/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 1 out of 5

I did not like this musical, at all. First, let me say I see a lot of musicals. I love all live entertainment but Le Mis was one of the worst I have ever seen. There was so much wrong with this musical I am not sure where to begin. All the communication was sung, this was just like an opera ( I have avoided operas for a reason). But unlike an opera the singing was not that good. The singing was just okay to average. So when someone actually sang a song I had to get into gear and realize oh, this is a song, not the people communicating. The story was impossible to follow. My co-worker informed me (she saw the play the same weekend I did) you have to know the storyline before you go to see the play or you will be lost. Well, that is not my defiintion of a good play. I was totally bored. There were 3 women sitting next to me who left at intermisson and did not come back. If I were there alone I would have followed suit. And this is something you cannot bring the kids to. The subject matter is vary dark. I feel kinda left out because so many people love this play and I just did not get.

  • After all these years, still not to be missed

by RobRobRob on 2/7/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

I have probably seen this show about 6 times over the years and never seem to tire of it. I missed the large stage production of the Auditorium Theatre, with it's turntable and barricades, but the great music and vocals in this production makes up for that. If you only see one show this season, make it Les Miserables. If you have never seen Les Miserables, don't miss it. It will inspire and touch you.

  • Les Mis

    by rely68 on 2/7/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 1 out of 5

I go to the theater at least once a month. Les Mis was like sitting through bad dinner theater. Some of the changes were great but others ruined the moment. The stage is much smaller and not proportined to the people. The lead as Jean ValJean was not convincing, they did not bother to age him and he was having trouble hitting the notes.

  • Les Mis

by BinnyBoo on 2/7/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

We were excited to see Les Mis! The curtain opened and we thought we were losing our minds. We couldn't understand the lyrics...the sound was terrible. It was loud and not understandable. We thought it was just us "old people," but the youngsters experienced problems also. It makes it pretty hard to follow the story line if you can't understand the lyrics/words of the music. We were disappointed. And, sorry but it's just not historical when Jean Van-Jean is black....

Not bad, but certainly the worst Les Mis show I've seen. In particular, I thought the Cosette and Fantine characters' voices seemed shrill and lacked depth and resonance.

  • Not so miserable Les Miserables

    by Eyerene11 on 2/7/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

I was a bit tentative to see this show, as I had heard it was quite sad and "miserable" in parts. And yes, people die! But, between the singing being outstanding and the cast acting the roles very well I left with the feeling I had experienced a very well told story that I will return to see again.

I loved it except that the music was so loud it drowned out the voices and made it difficult to understand what words were being sung.

  • Words cant even describe it!

It was honestly the best show I have EVER seen. And I have seen Wicked 3 times Lion King Legally Blonde RENT Chicago, and I couldnt beleive that it topped such great shows like that! I wish it was here longer so I could see it again!

  • les miz was everything but miserable

    by felix777 on 2/7/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Les Miserables at the Cadillac Theater in Chicago on Feb 5, 2011 was fantastic. The actors were top notch! Ron Sharpe was our Jean Valjean - what a surprise. The scenery was fantastic, the chorus powerful and the orchestra a delight. I loved it, my 15 year loved it, and my husband loved it!

  • Les Miserables was great.

The music, staging and singing were good. Very powerful ensemble.

  • Les Mis: A race through Victor Hugo

    by MattJJackson1 on 2/7/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

Les Miserables at the Cadillac Palace theater in Chicago has one of the best pit orchestras I have ever heard at at show that does not have an extended stay. The brass lock in with each other and the few string players make it sound as if there are three times as many players. The acting was great, but i would question if the right people were chosen for the parts (vocally). The majority of the songs felt very rushed and you could tell that the cast wanted to get back to their hotel. one song was so rushed that it almost sounded like the singer was rapping, which i do not thing is historically accurate to the time when Les Mis takes place. The new sets and staging are fantastic. Overall, it is a good performance and worth seeing.

  • Les Miserables a ete spectaculaire

    by soundgun99 on 2/7/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

Great show. We saw the Saturday matinee, therefore we saw Valjean's understudy, but he was ready was amazing. I would love to see it again.

  • Performance Okay - Venue Sucks

    by vc3125 on 2/7/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 2 out of 5

The performance was okay, but the Cadillac Palace is a dump compared to other Chicago theaters. The production was good with the exception that the player performing Jean Valjean was noticeably softer sounding than all his counterparts and sometimes barely audible. I sat on the end of the aisle next to an air exchange that rattled all night long! Very irritating! This was my 3rd time seeing Les Miz...my least favorite experience so far.

  • Great singing

by FirstTimeLesMiser on 2/7/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

At some points it was hard to understand the dialogue due to it not being spoken, but very well sung and well acted. It did seem long, 3 hours!

  • Les Mis was powerful

by BakerB on 2/7/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

The cast of Les Miserables gave strong performances with soaring vocals and emotional acting. Fantine's voice was a bit weak, but the other performers were excellent. The set and effects were outstanding. Epinine was fabulous.
