About

Cameron Mackintosh presents the acclaimed production of Boublil and Schönberg's Tony Award-winning musical phenomenon, Les Misérables. This brilliant staging has taken the world by storm and has been hailed as "a reborn dream of a production" (Daily Telegraph).

Set against the backdrop of 19th century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption-a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. The magnificent score of Les Misérables includes the songs "I Dreamed a Dream," "On My Own," "Bring Him Home," "One Day More" and many more.

  • Les Miserables was Superb

by SOHAIL on 2/9/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

Emotions from the cast came through excellently. Fantastic Music. Good humor. We had trouble hearing some of the cast. Either they were too soft spoken or not loud enough.

  • Not London

by lesfan on 2/8/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

After listening to the recording from London cast for so many years, I was disappointed in the vocals, mainly the female lead vocals, and longed to hear clarity and projection. The score deserves better, and I had hoped Chicago could have delivered something better than this cast of voices. I still recommend because the music is timeless and beautiful, the melodies and lyrics touching and moving.

  • Les Mis - Just Fabulous!!

by ReginaMarie on 2/8/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen this musical several times and this is, by far, my favorite. The most articulate, beautiful voices along with absolutely gorgeous set designs and lighting make this a dream production! Don't miss the experience.

  • Les Miserables was Miserable!

    by MusicalMan12345 on 2/8/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 2 out of 5

It was really hard to hear the actors and also the acting was not as good as I have seen in the past presentations of Les Miserables. I was so excited to see it and have gone to the past three shows of it. I was disappointed because this is my favorite musical and it did not live up to what I am accustomed to seeing it be performed!

  • Les Mis 25th Anniversary Tour

by praetorious on 2/8/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

The new staging works very well. The sewer scene is much more effective than the original. The cast is very strong. This is one of my favorite shows. This production does NOT disappoint.

  • The Alternate for Jean Valjean was incredible!

    by 2010IdolFan on 2/8/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I saw Les Mis last Sunday. There was an alternate --not even the regular understudy -- playing Jean Valjean. His name was Ron Sharpe. He was incredible! The entire production was beautifully performed, but his performance in particular was so moving, that I actually cried when Valjean dies in the last scene. Can't wait to see it again!

  • Brought to tears by Les Mis

by Anonymous on 2/8/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Five out of five of us were brought to tears numerous times during the performance. We have seen Les Mis anywhere from 3 - 7 times and in various parts of the country. This performance was unbelievable. While the changes are noticeable, they are not jarring and they added to the overall experience

  • You should see it at least once in your life!

    by lmfan100 on 2/8/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

Les Miz is my favorite musical. I've read the book, have the concert videos, and have seen it a few times. It features an outstanding story and beautiful songs. I enjoyed the performance, but didn't absolutely love it. I actually thought the direction was a little too dramatic. Don't get me wrong - it is a very dramatic show, but sometimes less is more. I have always thought the massacre at the barracades was so well done with the slo-mo effect. This production has everyone jerking around a couple of times before they die, and the other death scenes were equally (overly) dramatic. Joe Tokarz?? was the Valjean understudy and did an EXCELLENT job. He was my favorite. Beautiful voice and good actor. I didn't like the way "Fantine" sang.. She seemed to yell her songs. The show is definitely worth seeing, I guess I just wanted it to be perfect.

  • Exceeded every expectation

by PartlySunny on 2/8/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I'm extremely critical of musical and singers and there was not a weak link. Val Jean was the even understudy and was so impressive. Haven't stopped thinking about this show since it ended. I'd see it every night for a week if I could.

  • It gets Better with time

by NukeDoc on 2/8/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen this show at least three times and this production stands out as one of the best. The cast was tremendous and while the new staging was slightly different from older ones it worked very well. I was excited to see how my granddaughter who was seeing this show for the first time became enthralled in the production. It's a great way to introduce older children to the theatre. I am afraid though she will disappointed with other shows because the high standard set here.

  • les Miserables Chicago

by snorin on 2/8/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

Excellent production. Have seen Les Mis twice before so interesting to see the different staging. The background video effects are a nice addition. Male leads Javert and Marius were outstanding (had u/s for Valjean and he was decent) but all the females were just average and actually a bit disappointing.

  • Excellent!!!

    by TheatreLoverPam2 on 2/8/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

One of the best I have seen. Stage was fabulous, the use of technology was amazing!!! The cast was supurb.

  • by Anonymous on 2/8/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Les Miserables was a great show! I enjoyed the new and improved additions. There were a few changes that I wasn't so happy with but the singing more then made up for those changes that I didn't enjoy!

  • good but have seen better versions, went on 2-4

by LesMisFan on 2/8/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

The Cadillac Palace is an awesome venue for this musical. The performance itself however wasn't as good as most of the others I've seen. There just didn't seem to be as much passion in the individual main characters. Granted, there was a substitution for Jean Valjean but even the others were not as inspiring as I've seen before. There just seemed to be a lack of emotion and fire overall in the performance. The storyline has so much potential to take the viewer through a range of emotions and this added to the frustration and compounded the disappointment that the show was underdone. I had great seats, unfortunately the performance didn't match them. Would I see it again? Yes, the story is awesome, but I wouldn't pay as much for seats with this cast.

  • Les Miserables is an excellent story line.

by Anonymous on 2/8/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Unfortunately, for about first five songs of the play the sound was incorrectly set; making it very difficult to understand the lyrics of the songs do to the garbled sound. Eventually, this technical problem was corrected and the balance of the play excellent. Personally, this is by far my most favorite, marking the fourth time I have seen Les Miserable. For the rest of my party it was their first opportunity to view the play, they enjoyed it immensely. Definitely a must see.

  • Les Miz Lives at 25!

by BobnJoy on 2/8/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

We've seen Les Miz at least seven times, and this one compares very favorably with the previous "bigger" shows. I was favorably surprised that the sets and effects were really quite impressive. Singing was great and the whole cast seemed energized and engaged. In fact the quicker pace and judicious little cuts to some songs / scenes completed the show in just under 3 hours even with a 20 min intermission.

  • Les Mis don't miss it !

    by cheermom71 on 2/8/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first time seeing the show. I went with a friend who has seen it 12 times. This should tell you how great it is. Grab a ticket if you can before it leaves town and it's worth paying for a good seat at the theater... ALWAYS !

  • Les Miz was great!

    by TerriS5 on 2/8/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I still love this show no matter how many times (5) I see it. The audience was singing/humming along with every song. The singing was great (although Cosette and Fantine were not my favorites). The actors playing Javier, Jean Valjean and Marius were superb! The staging is a little bit different as the stage in the Cadillac Palace is smaller than other venues. Just a great afternoon!!

  • Never disappoints

    by Valerie0499 on 2/8/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

This was the 8th time I have seen Les Miz, but the first with the new set design. I enjoyed this production very much. This musical never disappoints. As the lights dim and you hear the first beat of the drum, this musical won't leave you disappointed.

  • How can you not like Les Mis ?

    by MusicalLover42 on 2/8/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Just as good as the original production I saw on Broadway many years ago. The scenery and staging is fantastic. The singing quality for Valjean and Javert (Javert especially !) was on par with the Wilkinson and Quest performances which is certainly saying something. However, Fantine's contribution was not able to reach the heights of either Debbie Byrne or Patti LaPone although she did turn in a respectable performance. The Thernardiers are staged well and do their job in providing the dark comedy counterpoint. There is no bad Les Mis. If you get a chance to see it, GO !
