About

Cameron Mackintosh presents the acclaimed production of Boublil and Schönberg's Tony Award-winning musical phenomenon, Les Misérables. This brilliant staging has taken the world by storm and has been hailed as "a reborn dream of a production" (Daily Telegraph).

Set against the backdrop of 19th century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption-a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. The magnificent score of Les Misérables includes the songs "I Dreamed a Dream," "On My Own," "Bring Him Home," "One Day More" and many more.

  • Loved the new sets

The new sets and backdrops were breath taking. We loved the fluid sets and moving backdrop, it really changed the whole experience versus the last time we saw Les Mis. A definite must see, just bring plenty of kleenex.

I had a great time. I think it is the best musical that I have ever seen! The voices, sets, special effects, and music could not have been better. A heart wrenching performance by everyone on stage.

  • Les Miz is THE BEST!

by Kaidee on 2/15/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Les Miserables is always a wonderful story and this stage version didn't disappoint. From the opening sounds of the orchestra throughout the production, it was a fantastic performance. Standing ovations were well-deserved! Loved the scenery and sets! Unbelievable voices, especially the actors portraying Valjean, Eponine, Thernardier, and Marius. (However, whole group singing was marvelous too!)

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the performance. No wonder this is one of the classics.

  • Fantabulous!

I know I am behind the times, but this was my first time to see Les Mis. I couldn't have asked for a more exciting and wonderful production. The vocals were spot on. I loved the kid performers. Each of the main characters held their own in such a powerhouse cast. This was worth every dime we spent for tickets.

  • Les Miserables-truly amazing!!

by sonandme on 2/15/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I honestly went into the show expecting to be looking at my watch the entire time. I didn't look at it once. This show was seamless in staging and the performances were breathtaking. My only fault with the show was that some of the words were hard to understand in a few of the songs. But still five stars!!!

  • Backdrops were teriffic

The best performance of Les Miserables that I have seen. The backdrops and sets were the perfect compliment to the actors.

It was very hard to hear the songs as the acoustics were very bad at the Cadillac Palace. Also, the stage was kind of small. It would have been better at the Oriental Theater. The boy that played Garvoche was very good. I wasn't impressed by the production as a whole.

  • Wish I hadn't gone.....

by GeorgieT on 2/15/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 1 out of 5

This is my third time seeing this show. None of my family had seen it and all I had done was rave about it to them. It wasn't until we were on our way from Indianapolis to Chicago that my husband told me what the online reviews said. If I had known that they had removed the revolving floor and set, I would never have gone. The show just wasn't the same at all----and was actually completely disappointing. And, on top of everything else, the actor playing Jean Val Jean was less than stellar. I don't know if he was sick or just having a bad night, but it didn't matter either way. He had pitch problems and was often drowned out by the other actors and ensemble in the biggest numbers in the show where he was supposed to carry the song vocally. Additionally, the musical background has been changed....it isn't as full and rich as before. I loved this musical more than any----and now, I never want to see it again unless it is restored to the former version.

  • Les Miz was fabulous!

    by cathyb418 on 2/15/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

The updated version of Les Miserables was simply wonderful. I loved the updated opening scene. A few, short songs were added to provide additional explanation to the story. I thought the musicians were terrific and the cast was amazing. All of the voices were wonderful from the top down to the young man who played Gavroche who had a beautiful, clear voice. I especially loved the staging of the play. The scenery was perfect and was changed quickly and effortlessly. The projected images in the background were also stunning. Loved it!!

  • ALL TIME FAVORITE!!!

by Vegitoboi on 2/15/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

The first time I saw Les Mis was in NYC and I happen to snag the last ticket for that night's performance located in the front row of the balcony. From that one show I was hooked. I was fortunate to be in the front row opening night when the show came to Chicago around 2003 (I think) and then at this performance in 2011. It tell you, it's hands down my favorite musical of all time. Something about Les Mis just grabs you and pulls you into the story, through every emotion, and leaves you wanting MORE. The only "confusion" with this performance was the role of Eponine. The young girl we meet as kid Eponine was white and yet when we meet young adult Eponine she 'somehow" turns black. A little inconsistency there. Also, Javert's suicide scene wasn't very "clean" as you can see the wires pulling him away to the back of the stage where a trap door was waiting. But nonetheless, was a great show and I'll definitely be going again and again whenever the show is in town.

  • Dark

by Springman on 2/15/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

This was my first time seeing Les Mis. I would have to say I was somewhat disappointed with the show. I thought the actors were okay, but not great, and the production was not as grand as I expected. The story is good, however, it's quite dark. Not exactly a "feel good" show as you're sitting through it. Also, a little too "opera like" for my taste.

  • A new twist on a most favorite

by jelnchicago on 2/15/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Having seen this play at least a dozen times in venues all over the world, when I heard this was a revised production...I was skeptical. I and my spouse were blown away. Without a doubt the strongest ensemble ever. The new staging and sequence actually explained the story more clearly. Lawrence Clayton, Anrew Varella, Justin Scott Brown and Jeremy Hayes were standouts. Sadly the actresses who played Fantine and Cosette have voices, while lovely, were not strong enough especially when compared to Chasen Harmons, Eponine and the ensemble.

Valjean performance was inconsistent but the original touring cast member was replaced for the performance I watched.

The seats are awfully designed. The view in back rows is easily blocked by the front row audience. The actor of Jean Valjean (a understudied actor?) has a rather weak voice, especially compared/confronted with Javert. The staging design is much worse than the older version--the older form of revolving stage is a much better way of representing this musical. How come Marius sings "Empty chairs, empty tables" on the street, where there is no chair nor table? And most of the actors/actresses sing so fast that their singing lacks emotional effects. In short, this new version a really very awful way of representation. Les Misérables should be a very great musical, but it seems to be ruined in Cadillac Palace Theater.
