About

Cameron Mackintosh presents the acclaimed production of Boublil and Schönberg's Tony Award-winning musical phenomenon, Les Misérables. This brilliant staging has taken the world by storm and has been hailed as "a reborn dream of a production" (Daily Telegraph).

Set against the backdrop of 19th century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption-a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. The magnificent score of Les Misérables includes the songs "I Dreamed a Dream," "On My Own," "Bring Him Home," "One Day More" and many more.

  • I Couldn't hear!

    by T1QK on 2/17/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

I have always wanted to see Les Miserable but I was disappointed because I couldn't hear it very well. We were sitting in the Luge and the sound was not good. I wish there would have more speakers or it could have been louder. The cast was wonderful but I couldn't follow the storyline because I just couldn't hear it, maybe I should have read more about the story to be able to follow it better!

  • Rushed and lacking

by chengt on 2/17/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

I'm a huge fan of Les Miserables and have seen live performances of it twice before this one as well as read the book and even (gulp) watched the movie. This was the worst live version of it that I've seen and I would compare its quality to that of the movie. Scenes felt rushed (people were still applauding a previous scene when the performer onstage had already started into the next scene) and segments were cut out entirely! (They completely removed the highly enjoyable Little People song with Gavroche and only did a hint of it when he dies. I am being pretty harsh but in my opinion if you have never seen a live performance of it you would probably enjoy this one. If you have or know the musical version, you will not.

  • Les Miserables disappointment

    by Queue2 on 2/17/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

I was disappointed. Maybe the leads were sick and were still trying to sing? Secondary voices were stronger. No tension or suspense in barricade scene--suddenly dead, too bad. Ending was emotional. Kids were great. I've seen a lot of shows all over the world.

  • Les Mis was magnificant

by Croso on 2/17/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Take one of the best "books" and scores ever written for theater, add a wonderful cast and add a fantastic set. The lit screens depicting the tunnels below Paris, streets above or boulevards-wow. My 7 year old grand daughter was mesmerized and is now a huge fan.

  • Les Mis mesmerizing

by Trezay on 2/17/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Got to Les Miserables the other night per a friend's recommendation. Unlike when I went to see Wicked here a few months ago, I hadn't seen the performance anywhere else so I didn't have any preconceived notions of what it should be. Just judging from my first Les MIs experience, it was incredible. I don't want to give anything away to anyone who may be planning to go this month but I did not walk away anywhere near disappointed. Despite the show being nearly 3 hours (with intermission included), I never found myself wondering when it was going to be over. I laughed (Master of the House), I cried (Bring Him Home) and I more than got my money's worth.

  • Amazing!

  • Les Mis was supurlative

by jazzymonroe on 2/17/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

As a fan of Les Mis, I was expecting to be disappointed knowing this staging had been reworked in celebration of the 25th year. Oh ye of little faith. I have to say this was my favorite version to date. The sets are stunning in their portrayal of Victor Hugo's book and paintings. I would be hard pressed to find fault. Mr. Clayton's (Jean Valjean) voice sounded a bit rough at times as if he may be fighting a cold but it was not distracting. Chasten Harmon (Eponine) will knock your socks off with her voice. The ensemble was strong and the reworked death of Javert although interesting, reminded me of another recent musical --which I won't mention and give it away. I know attending such events is not cheap, especially given these economic times, however you will not be disappointed.

  • Les Miserables moved me

    by Ygueye43 on 2/17/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I was taken in from the opening scene to the closing moments of the show. More than once I was moved to tears as the story unfolded. Unbelievable performances by all. The sets were fantastic and the changes of the scenes were seamless. I could have listened to the songs for hours. They all seemed too short to me.

  • Amazing!

    by MissL2 on 2/17/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I saw Les Mis 11 years ago and the show is still amazing! Such talent, I must say the new sets are a great new addition.

  • Les Miserables was Heart Stopping

by Anonymous on 2/17/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

This is an amazing production. The story itself is moving but this brought it to life! The actors were powerful in their roles. It was better even than when I saw it 20 years ago. Next week my teenager gets to go. He'll be speechless. It isn't possible to explain the experience. It was even better than I was expecting!

  • Les Miserables not miserable

by ckcarl on 2/16/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

Story line was excellent while the strength of the voices were not.really strong. The props also were weak.

  • Wonderful theater experience!

    by PinkFloyd1950 on 2/16/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

The creative use of projected backdrops was one of the most innovative techniques brought to the theater since the original turntable staging of the production! "Conventional" set & prop pieces were well-utilized and made the production an acceptable equivalent to the original. Cast was generally uneven, some vocal ranges overextended, other aspects varying between spectacular and hammy, sometimes on the part of the same performers. The 2nd understudy for Jean Valjean who performed provided everything that could have been hoped for in a performance and more, and could not have been outshone by the prime actor.

  • Les Miserables

by Midnightstorm on 2/16/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Absolutely wonderful. This was the third time I have seen this particular play. Three different theatre's three different cast and never disappointing. Thank you for such a wonderful performance of talent. The theatre was also beautiful.

  • Les Mis...not a miss!

by Andrayyyya on 2/16/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

I thought the opera was wonderful. Especially enjoyed the scenery changes and the arias. Sometimes the ensemble lyrics couldn't be understood. I had a "head" in my way up in the balcony section, but I managed.

  • Powerful Performance

    by pmc1955 on 2/16/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I've only seen Les Mis with a revolving stage so the projections on the back drop added an interesting twist. The sets were incredible, and the singers amazing. The performers made a powerful ending that I can still feel the effects.

  • by AlphaPiaBud on 2/16/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Les Mis is an outstanding story, made even better by the good music and lyrics. Add to that the incredible talent of this cast, and it's a show not to be missed.

  • by odel on 2/16/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

The show lasted for about 3 hours, but there was an interval break for 15 minutes. The show was great, very wonderful, the orchestra was amazing, i strongly recommended these show, you won't be dissapointed

  • Les Miz is MUST-SEE

by faveri on 2/15/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Les Miserable was awesome!!! I had seen it before in the 90's and always loved the music of this particular musical, although the storyline is sad. The characters were casted well and the voices were phenomenal with the exception of Cozette - she did not control her vibrato and with the the fast music this was a problem in my opinion. She has a good voice , but not for this part. Otherwise it was an awesome experience - not to be missed!

  • Where were leading ladies?!

    by LISSI405 on 2/15/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

I'd have to say that this show's production and set design was outstanding. Hands down best I've seen. The male actors did an amazing job. Strong voices you could feel their energy. Outside of Eponine's character the lead women vocals were poor. I dream the dream should have been done with power. I was disappointed. Cosette's voice was too high pitch and another actress would have been a better fit.

  • Fabulous Revamping of a Classic!

by Hugogirl on 2/15/11Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

This was a revival well worth seeing again, not only for the beautiful and timeless music but a very well staged production. It seemed to me that there was more insight into the character of Jean Val Jean in this production and the actor brought a new dimension to the portrayal. Of course, this is coming from a Les Mis enthusiast...
