An amateurish interpretation
by JML on 8/24/24Citizens Opera House - BostonRating: 1 out of 5I’ve seen a few productions of this show by now and this one felt… cheap. The staging was fine. The sets were only fine. The songs felt rushed through. They felt orchestrated at a faster tempo than typical and the performers tended to yell-sing much of their work. The director didn’t provide time to allow the development of all the melodrama (because this is a melodramatic show) develop. Valjean chewed every damn piece of scenery on stage. It felt like understudy night at a regional production.
