About

Cameron Mackintosh's acclaimed production of Boublil and Schönberg's Tony Award-winning musical phenomenon, LES MISÉRABLES makes a triumphant return to Chicago. This brilliant staging has taken the world by storm and has been hailed as "a reborn dream of a production" (Daily Telegraph).

Set against the backdrop of 19th century France, LES MISÉRABLES tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption - a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. The magnificent score of LES MISÉRABLES includes the songs "I Dreamed a Dream," "On My Own," "Bring Him Home," "One Day More" and many more.

  • So-So Performance, Unimpressive Set

    by gmarie927 on 11/20/12Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

For the price, I thought the seats were not impressive. We sat in the 3rd row balcony and it was difficult to see parts of the stage. At this venue, I would highly recommend getting seats as close to center as possible. Performance was just ok - Cosette was out-of-tune (ruined one of my favorite songs from the show - Castle on a Cloud). But Epinine and Fantine were really great! The set is very dark and not much to look at. Wicked had a much better set!!! Les Mis is a dramatic show. I've read the novel and seen the show before, so I knew what to expect. If you've never seen Les Mis or read the novel, then keep in mind that it is not intended to be funny or light-hearted. Very serious production - almost depressing. That being said, I absolutely love this show - but helps to be in the right frame of mind.

  • New production reflects 25 yr. degradation society

    by fuddyduddy2 on 11/20/12Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

The music is still awesome and for that reason, I still recommend going. But, the production which was redone for the 25th anniversary, is not an improvement. The sexual antics on the stage during several scenes were very disappointing. My 10 year old daughter was with me ... But to tell you the truth, I wouldn't have liked them even in the company of adults. They distracted from the music and the message. 25 years ago, this would receive more objections. It's sad that very few blink an eye at this anymore.

  • Les Miserables is a must see!

by CherAVee on 11/20/12Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

This was the first time my husband & I saw the play, and it was simply marvelous from start to finish. The music, the sets, the cast, the whole performance was absolutely fantastic!

Very good production, all the main characters voices were excellent. Small cast, but production is different with a touring cast versus a Broadway play.

It is an amazing performance set by spectacular broadway actors. They made Victor Hugo's masterpiece come to life! Splendid and a standing ovation act!

  • Fantastic Show!

    by DD27 on 11/20/12Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

The entire production was well performed. While I think there is something lost when we can't both sides of the barricade, the set design was still excellent without the revolving stage. Peter Lockyer as Valjean simply blew me away. I would say he stole the show, but Les Miz already IS Valjean's show :). I found Fantine's performance disappointing, hence 4 rather than 5 stars.

  • Excellent Rendition of Les Miserables

by MMaureen on 11/20/12Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen Les Miserables before and this performance was outstanding. The scenery is different than past productions, but very effective. The special effects were astounding. There have been some changes made, but for the better. The songs were sung with more feeling than I have heard in other productions.

  • Amazing

The second time I've seen this. By far the best. Phenomenal cast and production. They breathed new life into what could just be another show. As it was the second show of the evening, I was even more impressed with their energy. Voices in near perfect pitch.

  • Great performance for a classic!

by BringAidaBack on 11/19/12Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

This was my 3rd time watching Les Mis, but the first time in Chicago. Honestly, this was the best performance to date. This can be mostly attributed to the amazing cast. Their vocal abilities were amazing, so dynamic. I felt their emotions in every note. Extra Kudos to whomever played Jean Val Jean, he was especially outstanding. Eponine was great too, which is hard for me to say because I think Lea Salonga is by far the best ever to play that character. Overall, breathtaking performance and production. Highly recommended.

  • Great Surprise!

by Angrymen on 11/19/12Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I'm not usually one for musicals. I also usually cringe at paying $105 per seat. I bought these for our anniversary and was totally blown away. Absolutely loved it!

  • 5th Time as Great as the First!

by chicagocolleen on 11/19/12Cadillac Palace Theater - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Incredible show - as always - but the new staging is fantastic. The set is part of the story and becomes quite exciting. The voices were incredible - the entire ensemble was amazing - but Jean Valjean and Javert really stole the show. I cried during "Bring Him Home" - the music is just perfection. Awesome show - great experience for a Les Mis junkie (like me) or a newbie (my husband). We loved every minute.

  • Another Great Les Mis!

I've seen Les Mis several times in Chicago and London and this production was very well done! Would highly recommend this for someone who's seen Les Mis or a first timer, it's such a great play and has great music!
