Cameron Mackintosh's acclaimed production of Boublil and Schönberg's Tony Award-winning musical phenomenon, LES MISÉRABLES makes a triumphant return to Chicago. This brilliant staging has taken the world by storm and has been hailed as "a reborn dream of a production" (Daily Telegraph).
Set against the backdrop of 19th century France, LES MISÉRABLES tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption - a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. The magnificent score of LES MISÉRABLES includes the songs "I Dreamed a Dream," "On My Own," "Bring Him Home," "One Day More" and many more.
I have seen it before and this production was the best I have seen. Excellent cast.
Fantastic production! The staging and sets were wonderful, as well as the cast. I have seen Les Miserables several times, and it never dissapoints! Inspector Javer was one of the best i have seen.
This was the third time to see this wonderful musical. This version was exceptional. The new staging was just enough to keep it interesting and enjoyable, even for the third time around. You will not be disappointed.
The show itself was amazing, the only downside to not being able to get better tickets, even months in advance, was the lack of bathrooms for the female theater goers. For busy shows it can be a big problem, especially when intermission ends with lines still waiting.
This production was so much better than the last one in Chicago. Had a memorable evening with my daughter enjoying our favorite production! She loved it as well.
I've been waiting several years to see the musical. I've been a long time fan of the music. Performance was magnificent - would recommend to anybody.
This was the 5th live performance we've attended over the years. It was truly one of the best The leads female and male were very powerful in the vocal delivery. The set design was excellent. A very moving performance - left us wanted to see again before it leaves.
This is the third time we have seen Les Miserables--once in New York and now twice in Chicago. By far, this 2012 production is the best we have seen. There was not a single weak voice in any of the characters. Wonderful casting, audio and lighting.
Les Miserables was fantastic! The music was absolutely amazing, and the cast was superb! We couldn't have asked for a better experience!
For the staging, scenery, and singing talent, I will agree with others who have written in high acclaim. My experience, however, was very uncomfortable. I chose to attend, fully aware that a couple of the scenes would represent a "seedy" side of life. But a director has a lot of lattitude in the presentation of the material. This particular presentation included such lewd and obscene theatrics, that I found it highly offensive. Ultimately, it overshadowed any enjoyment I might have otherwise had. For example, the copulating couple on the stairway at the Thenardiers' inn added nothing to the story. If you are sensitive to lewd, suggestive materials, don't see this show. It is not "family-friendly."
My daughter and I saw Les Mis at the Cadillac Theatre in Chicago and is was an amazing experience! It was her first, big musical (she is 10) and we had an unforgettable time! Our seats were in the balcony and we still were able to see everything perfectly! I totally recommend seeing Les Mis in whatever city you can!!
this was the 25th anniversary revision of the show. it lacked the excitement, staging, and music of the original. performers sang songs marvelously, but parts of songs were excluded, and there was a much stronger, driving beat behind much of the music than the original, which detracted from the beauty of the show. gone are the old barricades, replaced by new sets. the ever changing video running in the background made it feel like we were watching a video game, rather than live theater. after spending so much for tickets and hoping to give my children the thrill that we experienced from seeing this show many times before, we were disappointed that our children did not have the same experience. if the original staging ever returns, we will go again; otherwise, it was not worth the time or expense. in the future i will definitely take more time prior to purchasing tickets to understand what is going to be presented. my general review prior to purchasing tickets to this show did not prepare me for what actually was going to be presented.
My daughter and I have not missed a performance of Les Mis in Chicago in the last 15 years. We are never disappointed. The cast is always remarkable, and this run was no exception. The gentlemen playing Javier and ValJean were outstanding - some of the strongest voices I have ever heard.
Oh, my goodness. Moving, as always. My friend and I cried throughout the whole thing. It's a masterpiece.
The show was an enjoyable experience. My minor complaint was that it was not always easy to understand the words some of the characters were singing at times. Not sure if that was an issue with equipment or the performers.
I have seen Les Mis several times both in London and the US. This was an awesome performance. Perhaps one of the most energetic and powerful that I have seen. This 25th anniversary version has made some very worthwhile enhancements, especially to the stage sets. Kudos to the Chicago cast.
We saw it this Saturday night, and I don't know if some of the performers were ill or what. It seems like several of the leads were just going through the motions. And the performer who played Valjean's voice was very weak. Don't waste your money.
I have seen this play a few times in Los Angeles but it has been years since I last saw it. I took my daughter to the touring show in Chicago as she is gong to be in a community theatre production of the show in February. I must say I was absolutely blown away by the cast! The singers were all so incredibly talented I, surprisingly, had tears flowing down my face through several numbers, purely based on the fact that I was witnessing such talent. Jean ValJean and Eponine in particular were great! Also have to give special kudos to Madame Thenardier...she was a hoot! Highly recommended!!!
This show catches you from the first bar and has you on the edge of your seat till the curtain falls. I laughed and cried. The performers voices we're second to none. My new favorite musical.
Unbelievable what they have done here. The sets, the sound, the acting, the SINGING, the story! Good venue.
