  • Always a favorite

I throughly enjoyed the play. I could not get used to Javert with shorter hair and being so plump. He sang well. Just his over-all appearance put me off a little. I've seen Les Mis at least 14 times over the years and this was the first time Javert didn't ring true. I loved the new scenery. The smaller stage didn't take away anything from the play. All in all I highly recommend the play to anyone who is thinking about seeing it.

  • Fantastic new production

Not unexpectedly, the singers were fantastic. For the very first time I LIKED the young man singing Marius. And I've seen it an even dozen times. The new sets were amazing as well! The backgrounds were from paintings done by Victor Hugo which made the moody scenes even moodier. Who knew how vast his genius really was? I cried like a baby throughout. And that made me love it even more.

  • Les Miserables: Amazing

by Bridgebury on 11/30/12Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I went into this show with high expectations, and it not only met those expectations, but exceeded them. This is a wonderful show, and I would sincerely recommend it to everyone. It's serious, but with some remarkable comic relief as well. I didn't expect to laugh like I did!

  • Les Miserables was beyond all expectations

I have seen almost every performance option for this show - including all the movies that have been made. I have also been a part of this production on a smaller scale. This show completely took my breath away! Bravo! I will remember this production for the rest of my life.

  • Les Miz is great play but just okay at this venue.

Les Miserable is by far my most favorite play. The music, the story line, the passion, heartbreak and struggle are beautifully told. However....I am sad to say that I was not overwhelmed by this particular performance. I had seen the play twice in the early and late 90's in New York City and became a diehard fan. The set at the Cadillac Palace was small and simple and some of the acting and voices were truthfully less than inspiring. "Eponine" was great, but I was not bowled over by Fauntine, Cosette, Valjean, Javert, Marius and especially not the Inkeeper (he underacted the part and his voice was not grand for the role). Sorry, this is just my take. My friend who hadn't seen it before seemed to like it. Maybe it's an issue of having experienced it so much grander. I also do not like how theatres now solicit money from their captive audience at the end to fund the gay communities, etc. Nothing to do with the issue just don't like being pressured after having just spent $200.

  • Dat Les Mis

by TheSparrow on 11/29/12Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

The show was incredible! Every actor/singer was absolutely fantastic, and I loved the story line. Our seats were right up front, and I thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience.

I enjoyed this production of a classic, especially some of the stage effects that are new since I saw this musical for the first time nearly 20 years ago. Different songs stood out this time. especially those sung by Jean Val Jean, Cosette and Javert.

  • Great Experience!

I took my husband to see this musical before the movie came out because it is, in my opinion, the best musical to be seen. Comparing it to my first experience in the front row at a theater in London isn't really fair, considering we were in the balcony, but I was impressed by the chosen actors and by the new scenery (ex. video backdrop of some scenes was very cool, especially for the sewer scene). As always, this musical was absolutely amazing, I don't think I could ever be disappointed. And my husband, who saw it for the first time after me raving over it for weeks and weeks, said that he enjoyed it and is much more looking forward to the movie than before. An excellent experience. Everyone should see this musical!

Greatest musical ever. The Chicago cast did the musical justice.

  • Terrible singing

by MsMusical on 11/29/12Cadillac Palace Theatre - ChicagoRating: 2 out of 5

I didn't mind the new sets or the upping of the raunchiness. What I did mind was how terrible the voices were overall - especially Valjean and Enjolras. Plus you could hear the mikes clicking on before any of the big numbers which got to be really annoying. Big disappointment.

  • overall wonderful

by janicefern on 11/29/12Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

This production was a bit dark - lighting wise. needs more stage brightness. and the music was a little rushed - felt like they were trying to get it over with and move on....

  • Les miserables in Chicago

    by Jean12345 on 11/29/12Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

Les Miserables at Cadillac Palace is fantastic, especially the scenery that in truly word-class! Amongst the leading part is Javier fantastic and so is Eponine! Jean, Marius and Cosette are also very good, whereas some other parts, especially Fantine, where disappointing. The innkeepers were very popular, but a bit too burlesque for my causing a mismatch between all the jokes and the evil with which they treat Cosette and other people. The children playing young Cosette and Eponine are fantastic. The overall impression is that it is probably one of the best productions of Les Mis ever, well woth seeing if you have the opportunity. Prepare to cry a little bit...

I've seen Les Mis before, but this show is better than most! The performances were outstanding and the songs were amazing, as usual! I would recommend this to anyone who likes theater!

  • A Moving Event

by MusicPerformer on 11/29/12Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen 4-5 times with the revolving stage and transforming baricade and thought that I would miss those devices, but this production had all the impact that all the other performances had. I thought the death scene in act I was too fast and didn't bring in the emotional level that I had felt before, but act II was right on pace. All the singers had remarkable voices and carried their parts fantasticly. I hope people pick up on the contrast of following the law and receiving Grace.

  • just one word...AWESOME!

by genab on 11/29/12Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

great cast, beautiful singing, only complaint is that the show should start earlier 7:30 start....ended at around 11. I have to drive home to the suburbs. 7 would have been better show is long. Also these theaters need to provide more matinee days.

  • Les Miserables

by SorelyDisapointedThisTime on 11/29/12Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

The play was theatrically incredible but the sexual behavior in some of the acts was unnecessary and over the top. I brought some of my children and was embarrassed. There is no need to be doing some of the things that we saw. I left the theater disgusted and would not recommend this to my friends.

  • All in all....good story!

    by Kaylyn12 on 11/28/12Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

I really think that one must know the story line before one attends. There are so many characters and the story is complicated. At times, it was hard to understand the lyrics, but it may have been bc we were seated far to the left in balcony. The familiar songs were great, though! Interestingly, goggled the deeper meaning of the show and, wow! It truly is a story that is complicated, but lovely!

  • Les Miserables at the Cadillac!

by HannahandAustin on 11/28/12Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I've seen Les Mis a few times before, and even though they've made some big changes since the 25th anniversary, I still really loved it! I did miss the revolving stage though. When Gavroche died, the stage doesn't turn to show his body, so you just listen. It wasn't bad, just different... The actors and actresses were amazing. Javert is my favorite character, and he did not disappoint! The only thing I can complain about is unnecessary lewdness during Master of the House. Yeah, I get it- that scene is supposed to be lewd- that's part of what makes it so entertaining! But a woman and a man were "having sex" on the balcony throughout the whole song.. Not in a funny way, but in a weirdly slow and steady way... I just felt like that part was not necessary to the plot (obviously), and it didn't make the show any better. All in all, I loved it. The technology has gotten way better since I've last seen it... All of the sewer scenes were pretty cool and Javert's last scene in Act II was incredible. I would definitely recommend this and I wish I could see it again!
