  • Uplifting show wish I could have seen it

by akerst on 12/3/12Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

This is the fifth time I have seen this wonderful show and I took my two oldest children for the first time and was looking forward to showing them what I consider to be one of the best stories and shows ever. I wasn't disappointed in the story and the special effects, although nostalgically I miss the round moving stage the backdrops and moving set pieces more than make up for it. The acting I thought was par for the course Javert's voice was incredible and his presence very strong! The same for Val Jean. My only concern was sitting in the balcony the lighting on the actors was extremely dark particularly in the beginning, I get that it should be dark in so many places but when the actors came downstage to deliver all of the favorite pieces I wanted to be able to see their faces! The spots I thought were particularly dark and we were unable to see the actors as they performed the classic pieces. It really offset the experience however it was still Les Mis!

  • Great first Les Mis

We took my grandmother to this for her birthday...we gave her the book to read over the summer and she said she was glad she did. Beautiful scenes & my favorite characters were the inn-keepers. I personally did not read the book, but was able to follow without issue. Glad we got to see Les Mis!

  • Les Miserables - Absolutely Perfect!

    by Drewsmom123 on 12/3/12Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Les Miserables at the Cadillac Theater was just perfect. The singing was so professional, beautiful voices. The story was hauntingly lovely. The music stays with you all day. The set, actors, background was amazing how they performed the play. I didn't want to leave. Thank you for the pure pleasure. Absolutely amazing!

This is the first time I have seen Les Mis in over 20 years. I loved the new staging - it was more intimate and felt a lot more emotional. Overall, the lighting was a bit dark and Fantine was in danger of being drowned out by the orchestra, but the performance as a whole was wonderful.

  • Les Mis Chicago

by MDKirk on 12/3/12Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 2 out of 5

I love the story of Les Mis as well as the beautiful music however, after seeing Les Mis in London 3 times I must be spoiled. I had higher expectations. Sitting in the balcony, I could not understand a lot of the words of the performers. Thankfully, I had shared the basic story of Les Mis with the teens I brought to the production so they were able to follow the story line with just a few misunderstandings of the plot. I found the inability to hear the singers or understand what they were singing very frustrating after spending over $500 for our seats.

  • Glorious Production

When the cuertain first rises, it grabs you and doesn't let go! The sets, the range of voices were incredulously stunning and I was totally infused with the emotions all along. Totaly recommend this particular production!

  • Les Mis worth it, but there were some moments . .

    by JLF1 on 12/3/12Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

I have been an avid Les Mis fan since the eighties. There were some notable changes for this tour, including new scenery as well as a faster pace. I loved the addition of Hugo's artwork, but during Eponine's "On My Own", I found the scenery to be distracting. I was also a bit disappointed with the new barricade. Isn't that how hundreds of actors cut their teeth in the business - falling off the barricade? I thought that was a right of passage. Anyhoo, Jean Valjean (on Dec. 1st) was unbelievable. He sounded very similar to the original London cast recording, but still made it his own. Eponine's voice was powerful and she did a fantastic job. In a role that has been played by so many greats, they're big shoes to fill - and she did it successfully. Javert was played perfectly. However, some of my favorite roles (Fantine, Cosette, the Thernadiers) were not all that I was hoping. Fantine spoke much of "I Dreamed a Dream". This song is one of the greatest in theatre, and this creative spin did not do it justice. However, Fantine did a fantastic job at the end during Valjean's death scene. Beautiful and unique voice. Cosette was played a bit more naively than I have seen previously. I always interpretted her character as more quiet, reserved, but still with a knowledge of the world despite her innocence. The Thernadiers were also great during the Wedding, but there was not enough energy during Master of the House. Thernadiers need to be dispicable, yet lovable. And I just didn't think they had done as well with the latter such as when Madame Thernadier interacted with young Cosette. And finally, the pace may have actually had a negative affect. It was a bit fast in places - there was no time to absorb and let the moment sink in. This reduced the drama for songs such as "One Day More" and "Do You Hear the People Sing". However, the little snippets of comedy (think Marius during "Heart Full of Love"), was welcomed. All in all, if you had nothing to compare it to - you would love this and probably not even detect what I found to be faults with this production. Despite what I thought were issues, it was still wonderfully done and the actors all did a stupendous job.

  • Les Miserables was exceptional

by fkrauss on 12/3/12Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I first saw Les Miserables when it played at the Auditorium Theater in Chicago in 1989, It was exceptional, becoming one of my favorite all time musicals. I had some apprehension as to whether a remounting of the show could match up. The performance at the Cadillac Palace was amazing, and in some ways may have even topped the original Chicago run.. The voices were superb, including the understudy who took over the role of Jean Valjean. The scenery may have been pared down a bit, but served very well. We were really impressed by the effectiveness of the digitally projected background effects. The overall effect was as if we were watching a series of beautiful paintings come to life. And then of course, there's the story. Still as powerful as when Victor Hugo penned the original. The 25th anniversary touring company has done an exceptional job if reimagining the original while being faithful to it.

  • by Anonymous on 12/2/12Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I've seen Les Miz several times, but I can't recall a production as polished as this one. Couldn't identify a weak link in the entire cast - kept me riveted the entire time. Highly recommended.

  • Better Than I Remember

by STARRPREZ on 12/2/12Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I saw Les Miserables for the first time back in 2005 at the Cadillac Palace, and was in awe. I never dreamed the re-imagined version for the 25th anniversary could be even better. This performance was phenominal. Everything about it was superbly done. The singing, the set, the music, all fantastic. I'm already wondering when it will come to Chicago again so I can immerse myself in this astounding musical once more.

The best musical production I have seen, hands down! The sets were marvelous, the performers were emotive and intense, and the music was divine. My only complaint, is with the venue...more ladies toilets. Sheesh.

by Dorethaday on 12/2/12Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I missed the performance the last time that it was here. Determined not to miss this one, I quickly purchased 2 tickets. The performance was spectacular! The voices superb, the character portrayals left me mesmerized. This was truly one of the best performances that I have had the pleasure of viewing and I heard the songs made famous with a new ear.

  • Les mis was amazing!

    by Sarahmarie86 on 12/2/12Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Les mis was awesome and did not diappoint. The music was beautiful but at times over powered the actors voices. The seats were cramped, but those thing didnt really ruin the experience for me.

  • Wonderful production of a great show!

by Henchie on 12/2/12Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

This traveling company deserves top billing on Broadway. Having seen the show before, I was struck by how emotional and exciting it could be when performed by this very talented, young, enthusiastic cast. I loved it once more.
