About

Cameron Mackintosh's acclaimed production of Boublil and Schönberg's Tony Award-winning musical phenomenon, LES MISÉRABLES makes a triumphant return to Chicago. This brilliant staging has taken the world by storm and has been hailed as "a reborn dream of a production" (Daily Telegraph).

Set against the backdrop of 19th century France, LES MISÉRABLES tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption - a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. The magnificent score of LES MISÉRABLES includes the songs "I Dreamed a Dream," "On My Own," "Bring Him Home," "One Day More" and many more.

New staging of the show is great, and the actors were fantastic. Javert was the best I've ever seen.

  • Wonderful Experience

by Mightypenguin on 12/4/12Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Javert stole the show in my opinion. Besides a slight quaver in Jean Valjean's character's singing and a less than stellar "Dream" by one of the female leads, the prop handling and individual and group performances were outstanding.

  • Love, love, love Les Miserables

by CindyCD on 12/4/12Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

I've seen Les Miserables a few times now, and every time it's a complete thrill. This production was no exception. The only thing I wish had been different was the sound level; the orchestra was a bit too loud in relation to the actors' voices. Otherwise, I laughed and cried!

This Was The Second Time That I Have Seen Les Miserables And The First Time That My Wife Has Seen The Show. It Was A Great Show And I Am Glad That I Was Able To See It With A Group Of Friends!

  • Great if your first time, but short of original

by Hadmaster on 12/3/12Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

The storyline and music is as good as it gets. The staging was simpler (use of visual screening was well done) which was fine. Biggest complaint was the pace of the songs seemed very rushed. Almost as if they wanted to get done as soon as possible. Not sure if that is part of the revision or the local direction, but it was noticeable and distracted from the experience.

  • Les Miserables was Fantastic

I have not been to a show of this caliber in many many years....everything from the production to the actors was absolutely top notch. My girlfreind and i walked out of the theatre emotionally drained from the show. I could not have asked for me, incredible redition of a classic

The message of this masterpiece conquers pain and suffering in a way that is unexplainable in words. you cannot leave Les Miserables unchanged.

The cast was very talented and acted the parts well. I would have preferred if Fantine had used the full power of her voice instead of speaking part of her songs, but this was a minor detail. I especially liked the use of projected images against the back wall of the stage to show the tunnel and Javert's suicide.

  • Les Miz was spectacular!!!!!

    by Pamela3 on 12/3/12Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I really enjoyed this version of the Les Miz I only wish I could have seen the original. You will want to sit in the center section of this theatre to catch all the appearances of the actors. We did have a hard time understanding some of the actors, not sure if this was the sound or what. It was still a very moving performance.

  • Les Mis needs to work on tech!

by akerst on 12/3/12Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

While the music was beautiful and the acting sincere, the technical aspects of the show were so distracting I couldn't enjoy myself completely. We sat in the balcony stage right row F and the lighting on the actors' faces was atrocious...so many shadows or in the dark completely. Sound was also an issue, particularly for Fontene (spell?). She was hard to hear. I saw several mics sticking out of wigs/hair. I expect to not notice those things when I attend professional theater. Yes, I'd still recommend the show because Les Mis is wonderful, but would warn the person of what to expect. Went away disappointed.

  • Les Miserables was great

by Elchavo on 12/3/12Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

First time ever to watch les miserables, enjoyed the production, great songs, great singers. Being a big fan of the book, I do feel Les Miserables needs another 20 hours of storytelling to do justice to the book. But for what it is, had a great time.

This play was truly awesome! Loved what they did to the new staging--no revolving floors --and the voices were spectacular! This is a play not to be missed!

  • Les Mis the Race

by mikejmcgee on 12/3/12Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

I show itself was great. I have seen it multiple times. However, this was the "new" 25th Anniversary show and my first time seeing it. I felt like the actors were singing so fast that at times it was hard to understand them. It seemed cold and lacked emotion. The original for me was 5 star every time. I'm not sure modernizing it was a good call.

  • This version of Les Mis was exceptional!

Have seen this play three times previously and this was the best experience so far. The performers were quite good and the staging was excellent.

This is a fantastic show. My wife and I sat in the back of the Orchestra section and, generally, we could clearly hear the performers while the Orchestra was playing. However, the show was ruined for us do to the fact that, at times, the Orchestra was too loud and we had no idea what was being said. The music that the orchestra played was beautiful and really added to the show, if only they had kept the volume a little softer so we could have heard everything being said. This was a 50th wedding anniversary surprise for my wife and I was disappointed that we were unable to hear the complete show.
