Les Mis continues to charm despite Cadillac tarnis
by Rubykayak on 10/16/17Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 2 out of 5The theater adaptation of Les Mis at the Cadillac Theater in Chicago passionately presents poetic tenderness and mirrors the human desire for freedom, love, patriotism, justice, and belonging. Despite horrendous looping lines for the restrooms during an all too short intermission to accommodate a full crowd; a playbill focusing solely on the actors and producers but lacking ANY reference to the author, Victor Hugo, and the rich history and culture that inspired the story; and a melancholy casual dress that has permeated our current culture - all made going to the theater an undesireable event. It was well worth seeing and listening to Jean Valjean, played by Nick Cartell, sing protectively to God above for the safe return of Marias, played Joshua Grosso which was, by far, the most ethereal performance I have witnessed after viewing many productions of this classic.
