  • Phenomenal Show

    by Squad171 on 10/19/17Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I saw the same Cameron Mackintosh production of Les Miserables in June of 2016 before it closed on Broadway and thought the show was excellent then. I think it is even better now. The cast was stronger as a whole on tour than it was on Broadway despite having the legendary John Owen Jones as Valjean on Broadway. Every actor and actress was crisp and their voices well suited for their roles. The sets were the same ones I saw last year and the production was as enjoyable the second time as it was the first time. I cannot recommend this classic enough. If you have any interest in musical theater and wish to see a timeless story of redemption with divine music paired with angelic voices, then Les Miserables is a must see and this production is about as good as it gets.

  • Better than the first time!

For everything they did wrong with the remake of Phantom of the Opera, they did very right with Les Miserables! The set is beautiful, the music haunting, and the cast superb! I believe it is the best it’s ever been! This is a must see show!

  • Mesmerizing

by Bittan on 10/18/17Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

So glad we took our 15 year old to her first Broadway musical and she chose to see Les Miserables! The talent was amazing, such wonderful voices and beautiful acting. Each character uniquely portrayed. The scenigraphy was clever and used innovative ways to show happenings that could prove difficult on stage. If you have a chance, take advantage of seeing this amazing production while in Chicago!

What a wonderful production. The cast was superb and the best I have seen. Strong, powerful voices that transported the audience back to a time in history where pain and suffering was an everyday fact of life. You could feel their despair and pain in every cast member.

We've seen Les Miz many times. We thoroughly enjoyed this production. Our only complaint was that we thought the lighting made it a little dark. The night scenes were fine but we thought it could have been more lit during other scenes, like Master of the House or Lovely Ladies. I understand why it was lit the way it was but it was hard to see faces etc.

The powerful voices were augmented by the acoustical splendor of the theater. The passion of the actors carried us into the experience. An overall impacting and overwhelming performance.

This was an amazing production at a fantastic theatre. I did have an obstructed view seat but I was still able to see 95% of the stage.

  • Good show but a little too long!

    by dmomof2 on 10/17/17Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

Have enjoyed many broadway shows-several at this venue...but this productions was a little drawn out in a couple scenes. Overall good show but there are two scenes that either need to be shorter or action added.

This is the 12th time I've seen "Les Miserables," my favorite play of all time, in the past 28 years. Although I still miss the turntable and formidable scenery of the original play during the first several years, I am still awed by the music and thrilled by the story. This latest rendering of the musical is among the best I've seen in recent years. I was particularly impressed by the lead actor, Nick Cartell, who plays Jean Valjean. His voice was strong and clear and he's among the best Valjeans I've seen. Josh Davis as Javert turned in a fine performance and the voice of Matt Shingledecker as the student leader Enjolras (my favorite character in the play) was thrilling in itself. Two complaints - the orchestra at times overpowered the singer (particularly Fantine's solo, "I Dreamed a Dream") and the comedic couple, the Thenardiers, was too over the top. This couple, originally meant to lighten the mood at times during the play, has become too silly and therefore unbelievable over the years. But all in all, this is a memorable musical and one of the best productions I've seen.

  • Good production

Good production, energy however disappointed turntable on the stage wasn’t used and the sound just under the dress circle could have been better.

  • HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

by TheatreScott on 10/16/17Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I've seen a few productions of Les Mis and this is one of the best! Amazing cast. Truly stunning voices! A MUST SEE! So much that I think/feel I need to see it again! I saw Hamilton earlier this year and it became an instant favorite. But this production put Les Miserable back on top of my favorite musical list! Never seen Les Mis? This is the production to be your first time! Already seen it before? Then this is the production you should see to make you fall in love with it again.
