Cameron Mackintosh's acclaimed production of Boublil and Schönberg's Tony Award-winning musical phenomenon, LES MISÉRABLES makes a triumphant return to Chicago. This brilliant staging has taken the world by storm and has been hailed as "a reborn dream of a production" (Daily Telegraph).
Set against the backdrop of 19th century France, LES MISÉRABLES tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption - a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. The magnificent score of LES MISÉRABLES includes the songs "I Dreamed a Dream," "On My Own," "Bring Him Home," "One Day More" and many more.
First time going to see this broadway show. I was blown away!!
If you have never seen this musical before you are not alive! Les Miserable is one of the greatest stories every told. The music just adds so much to the story. You cannot help but get taken away into their world when the opening song starts. Go see it. Repeat go see it.
This was my third time seeing Les Miz. All times were national touring companies (1989, 2013 and current tour). This by far was the best production. The sets, lighting and direction captured the story perfectly. The actors brought the characters to life. The balance of instruments and performers was spot on. After the show, my son and I waited by the stage door for autographs. The cast was very gracious. As we walked down Randolph Street, we realized that "Gavroche" and his family were walking with us. Gavroche recognized us and started asking us what we thought of the show. He, and his family, were very friendly. He wanted to know what we liked best about his performance, and if there was anything he could change to make it better. Very professional of a young child! Go see this production if you have the chance!
It was 25 years ago that I first saw Les Miserables at The Auditorium Theatre. I was excited to share the experience with my husband and children. The cast was Amazing! Nick Cartell was SUPERB!! I can't say enough Wonderful things about his performance. If given the chance, you must see it!! The Cadillac Theatre is Beautiful, but needs more bathrooms!!
Les Miserables exceeds all expectations for a Broadway show. It clearly illustrates the conditions that preceded the French revolution while weaving the tale of individual characters within it. The talent performing on stage and in the orchestra pit are unbelievable. The singing was clearly understood and always in tune. The orchestra parts are very well written. They don't just accompany the vocalists, they convey emotion & mood essential to telling the story. The lighting used throughout the show was magnificent. It augmented the action on stage & detracted from the many scene changes throughout the show. The sets were detailed and quickly changed so the story was continuous. The producers and writers for Les Miserables could not have done a better job. Enjoy.
Les Miserables never disappoints. It is one of, if not THE BEST stage musical of all time. This cast was excellent. Their voices were impeccably matched to their characters. The orchestra was flawless. The sets were innovative and grand. This truly was a first class production...the best I’ve ever seen.
I saw Les Mis in chicago on 10/28 and I have never seen anything more perfect.
I’ve waited a long time to see this play, and one word sums it up. Amazing!
Having seen the show at least 5 times over the last 30 years, I enjoy it more each time. The latest production offered plot nuances to clarify the story for those who have not read the book. The score remains glorious. The performances proved exceptional, most notably Valjean whose tenor tones rang through the theatre. Fabulous production!
The cast was stellar and gave a powerful performance. They deserved and received a standing ovation from the moment the first cast member cam out to bow!
Powerful songs, powerful singing...especially loved Eponine's voice in the performance we attended...
The Obstructed view seats were difficult to enjoy cause you miss quite a bit. I think they should be cheaper than what they sell for. It's a well done play though. No doubt about it.
One of the best performances of Les Mis. The cast was so well chosen and blended so perfectly together. Phenomenal! My only negative is the school groups. If the venue is going to sell large blocks of tickets to school groups pick one or two performances and make it all school groups. They were very rude during the performance getting up and down and in the lobby areas.
The story itself is the most compelling thing about Les Mis. It is a story of grace over law, love instead of hate, others before self. Now add to it the best Broadway music out there, stunning backdrops, and lyrics that break your heart and you have simply the best production out there. This season's version has added a few scenes to help tie the story together better. And most all of the main characters are up to the acting and singing. The only thing that disappointed us was the venue. The Cadillac Palace Theatre was not up to the performance. Five minutes into the show they allowed a rush of latecomers to enter the theater making for mass confusion in the dark about who was to sit where, causing those of us who came on time to miss almost ten minutes of the program. Bad ushering job all the way around, that threatened to spoil the evening.
I have seen many productions and this was one of the best!!!
Rating for the Cast and venue; they were amazing, however the digital projections were terrible! I saw Les Mis over 35 years ago and I couldnt wait to see it again. It was disappointing to see it modernized with digital additions. Tainted the magic of live theatre and my memory of the classic production.
Les Mis was gorgeously staged and epically acted, the sound was wonderful, and I truly believe there would be no bad angles, even at the side seat.
I saw this show when it opened in the west end of London 32 years ago. It is still as good and relevant today.
Les Miz is a beautiful musical. The vocals were wonderful. Many people, myself included, were brought to tears!
Outstanding talent! All roles were performed beautifully. When the entire ensemble sang, I can’t imagine anyone not getting goosebumps! Our seats were in Dress Circle...the sound was perfect. Wish this company would come through Chicago again! Not here long enough!
