Latin History for Morons on Tour

A sold-out run at The Public Theater. A record-breaking engagement at Berkeley Repertory Theatre. Endless critical and audience acclaim direct from Broadway. Chalk it all up to the mad genius of Tony and Emmy Award® winner John Leguizamo, standing at the head of the class in his one man show, LATIN HISTORY FOR MORONS.

When his son gets a school assignment on heroes, John seizes the chance to teach him all about the great figures of the Latino world. But once he sets out on his irreverent crash course across three continents and 3000 years of history—from conquistadores to cumbia, Montezuma to Menudo, and taking on the characters in all of it—he uncovers provocative truths that shock even him.

    Amazing show

by Frederick Hetter on 12/11/19San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

It was an informative lecture, but it’s a great show. He is hilarious and still his intention to teach is clear. Although fast, every point is grasped. Would definitely recommend for friends and their children

    Awesome

by Noriega on 12/11/19San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

John was fantastic and funny on his show. I wished I had a professor like him because he made everything about Latin history very interesting. His personal life hit close to him and the conclusion of it was awesome. I hope he comes back again in San Diego.

Truth was Presented - so I Hoped You Listened

by Gideon on 12/10/19ASU Gammage - Tempe

People don't read. I say this because I think people who came to the show did not realize that this wasn't a comedy show. This was a lecture for a subject that needed light shined on it. He did an amazing job despite a couple of pendjos who tried to heckle and failed. If you didn't see it on TV - it's even better in person.

This was a very amazing experience to learn about Latin history. John explains a lot of what was missing from the history books taught in schools today. Highly recommend this show to anyone that loves John and their culture!

We cannot get over the truthful hilarity of this show. John Leguizamo is not only a comedian, but a dancer, story-teller, narrator, educator, and man of truth. Prepare to be F-bombed all night long in this perfect reminder of heritage told tongue-in-cheek with spirit and joy.

    WOW!!!

    by Mileeho21 on 12/10/19ASU Gammage - Tempe

We went to see this fully expecting to laugh, thinking it was going to be a very "surface level" comedy show! Yes, we laughed A LOT but what we never expected was that it TRULY was a class on Latin history. We learned things we never knew...things that we all should have been taught in our history classes. Kudos to John Leguizamo for presenting such a detailed and thoughtful master class but doing it in a way that was funny, informative and interesting. Had my college professors been half as engaging, I may have actually stayed in school!

    Not what we were expecting.....

    by G. P. on 12/10/19ASU Gammage - Tempe

It was interesting, and well delivered. The language and delivery at times was crude and vulgar, not what was expected from the cover description of the performance. (A father teaching his son about Latin history).

    Thought provoking

by Gabriela on 12/10/19ASU Gammage - Tempe

Originally drawn to the show as many moons ago I was a Spanish major with a minor in Latin American studies at ASU. As a stand alone play it was very well done. The interaction with the audience was an added bonus. Found it unfortunate that there was a heckler in the audience. This wasn’t a comedy club. Mr. Leguizamo handled himself gracefully and never broke character. I commend him for having been brave enough to come to what Americans consider a red state. While I studied the history of what he wrote. And understood why he wrote this play, I did feel sadness for the naivety behind the premise. Mostly because the audience demographic more than likely already understood the why and how. There is nothing that can be done when disease is spread. And that is ultimately the primary reason these great civilizations were wiped out. It has, after all, been survival of the fittest since the beginning of time. And also I do agree that a show like his should be shown. Why not even in the school systems themselves? He’s starting somewhere. And that is the most important part in his message.

    Hilarious history

by Dana on 12/10/19ASU Gammage - Tempe

A hilarious show that explores the revision of North American history and the secondary curriculum, as well as parenting across generations, the difficulty of rising up (and reality that money doesn’t open all doors) and the internal struggles of a man prepared for life in the ghettos, and not parenting through the prep schools of Manhattan. He seems to have figured it all out with his quick wit and huge heart and courageous perseverance to reflect and grow. He’s captures the struggles of many Latinx riding up in the ranks and realizing what cards have been dealt and using all their wiles to keep those cards from smacking their children in the face. All this happens in a one man hilarious and eye-opening show about history.

    Remarkable!

by PINA on 12/10/19ASU Gammage - Tempe

Johns work is so needed today. Through his work , he helps bring Dignity back to a culture that is being shafted; Latino. And the larger sense of that word - the Greater Whole- . Johns grandfather was Italian. I’m of Italian ancestry BOTH parents.John uses humor as a political tool in this show. Many of his shows. I am picking up books that John mentions in this show to offer as reads in the college course I teach. I also invite my students to write a paper on their Hero’s/ Heroines. I stress Culture Hero. We all need role models of ourselves. Which is why I love the ending . I hope I didn’t give it away. Go see Leguizamo - He is a Creative Genius. By the way his play Freak a huge favorite of mine. This is what Great Art does. Helps us question, think, empower and act. Grazie Brother!

    Great history reminder!

by Luce on 12/6/19Smart Financial Centre at Sugar Land - Sugar Land

JL did a great job reminding us that there are two sides to history, and he did so in a wonderfully humorous fashion. I had some belly laughs, and also some pulled heartstrings for his son. Highly recommend. He makes no bones about his political views.

    Entertaining and meaningful

by littleem on 12/5/19Majestic Theatre San Antonio - San Antonio

I can't even begin to explain how much I enjoyed this program. Mr. Leguizamo takes you on a complex journey from ignorance to knowledge by putting the puzzle pieces of history together, all the while using humor that has you doubled over clutching your stomach. I can't wait to watch it again on Netflix! Definitely worth the price of admission!
