  • Great!

I left something out on my review. I forgot to mention that there was an issue when we called to secure our reservation. We received an email prior to our visit saying our reservation had been cancelled but who cancelled a reservation before it's time to check in. I was promised my card wouldn't be charged before check-in and that didn't ring true. We were driving from another city to come to your venue and we get an email cancelling our reservation? The Manager made it right but that shouldn't happen when it's not even time to check in. Our plans were to pay in cash once we got there. We were told we could use a card just to secure the reservation and the charge wasn't supposed to happen until our arrival. Who does that?

We already had high expectations of seeing Lalah Hathaway live but I really can't describe how much I enjoyed her. She was all we expected and more! PLEASE BRING LALAH HATHAWAY BACK!!!!! If the Motor City Soundbar would only consider raising the floor up just a bit so the people that sit down on the first few rows or on the floor period didn't have to look up to see the artists on stage without looking up so much. The venue is comfortable and very chill but if you sit on the floor you have to look up or stand up to see the artists from head to toe. Maybe even putting the floor on an incline could help so that you don't have to stand up to see over the person in front of you. Otherwise no complaints. My room was very comfortable and a special Thank You to Anthony the Bellman. He's so kind and helpful. Give that man a Raise! Id consider staying there again for another event.

  • Not at all what I was hoping for!

by TBlac on 5/13/25Sound Board at MotorCity Casino Hotel - DetroitRating: 2 out of 5

Let me say that I am a true Lalah Hathaway fan and have waited forever to finally get the opportunity to see her. I was very disappointed that she sung only a few of her songs (after saying she was singing them all). Realistically I knew she wouldn't sing them all, however I'd hoped for more than 6-7 of them. Hardly any songs sung were familiar and she sung more snippets of Anita Baker and motown hits songs that were familiar. Where the disappointment comes in was her guitar player spent most of the show performing to the point I and others around me were confused as to who's concert we were at. After his long performance she said good night and left off stage!!! Everyone was so blown away thinking it was an intermission joke I guess, they remained in their seats. Someone must have told Lalah that fans were still sitting and finally she came back out (while mind you the guitar player was STILL playing like it was his show) and started whistling and scatting to him playing! COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE! This went on for another 5 min, when she could have used that time to sing more of her songs considering she didn't sing many to begin with. She then said goodnight again. I guess she feels we'll accept anything and honestly had no choice but to. Considering I'm a huge Lalah and Donny Hathaway fan, i made a financial sacrifice to see her perform and was extremely heartbroken at this performance 💔 😔 I hate to leave a review like this but this wasn't cool at all!

  • Beautiful soul! Incredible concert! Powerful voice!

AMAZING!! Lalah is an incredibly talented artist. She sounds incredible live! So down to earth. Such a relaxed and positive vibe. She is beautiful both inside and out. Already looking for tickets to her next concert closest to me.

  • Lalah Hathaway at the Soundboard in Detroit 5/2025

by Duke on 5/13/25Sound Board at MotorCity Casino Hotel - DetroitRating: 1 out of 5

This was my second time seeing Lalah Hathaway I wanted to see her again at the motor city casino soundboard theater in Detroit. The show it was less than expected. Lalah mentioned that she would do some of her old songs, and she basically just sang covers of other people's songs. At one point, she said, good night, everybody thank Detroit and she left the stage, which made half of the audience leave, then, as people were going down the hallway to leave the venue, the music started playing again. So some people, not all, but some people return to the theater. Very unprofessional, and very uncalled for if I had gotten into the elevators, I would have never known that she started her show again. Overall Lalah Hathaway show was very disappointing this time.

  • It was just, okay.

by Lala on 5/13/25Sound Board at MotorCity Casino Hotel - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

Seats are attached that cause discomfort. I enjoyed the concert but expected more. Maybe I'm too old because I'm a fan of her early work and she didn't do any of it. I saw more of the opening act than the main act. No where to sit down and eat after the show.

  • Disappointed

by Ms. KFT on 10/21/24Gila River Resorts & Casinos - Wild Horse Pass - ChandlerRating: 2 out of 5

I have been a fan of Lalah Hathaway since the early 90s. I was really disappointed with this concert. It started late and ended super early (about 60 minutes total). The music was too loud and we could barely hear her sing. It didn't feel like group wanted to be there and it came out in the performance. I brought someone to see Lalah for the first time and I don't think I will ever be able to convince him to come again. Again, disappointed.

  • Great show

Lala Hathaway is a great singer. It was a great experience.

  • Beautiful voice, but a one hour concert

by Leddie on 10/7/24Gila River Resorts & Casinos - Wild Horse Pass - ChandlerRating: 3 out of 5

I was very disappointed in the length of the concert after paying $94 for two tickets and it only lasting ONE hour. In the very beginning of the show, the band was WAY too loud, but they finally figured it out going on the third song, and finally turned up the vocals and turned down the band. Lalah has a very beautiful voice and the background vocals as well as the band, were awesome. I really wish it lasted longer.

  • Never do it again

by Mad on 10/7/24Gila River Resorts & Casinos - Wild Horse Pass - ChandlerRating: 1 out of 5

Here I thought I was going to get a good performance. First off she was 30 minutes late from her start date and she only performed for 1 hour. She didn’t really move she looked like a mannequin. I’ve been to a lot of concert and this is the first one that was garbage. She didn’t even interact with the crowd except saying sing along and that was once. We paid for her to sing not us. When they said you wanted more I thought she was going to do a couple more songs NOPE just one more. Please don’t put her back on tour leave her where she is at. People that sing in the bathroom do better than what she did.

  • Lalah - amazing

by Snap on 10/7/24Gila River Resorts & Casinos - Wild Horse Pass - ChandlerRating: 5 out of 5

Ms. Hathaway was amazing but only sang for an hour. I hate to sound ungrateful, but needed more of that voice!!

  • Did not meet expectations

by Anonymous Music Fan on 10/7/24Gila River Resorts & Casinos - Wild Horse Pass - ChandlerRating: 1 out of 5

First I am not a reviewer but the disappointment was beyond words since this was my first experience attending one of Ms Hathaway’s shows. First it started 25 minutes late. Lalah sang (not really performed) for an hour with taking 30 minutes for her to warm up to the audience. Interaction with the audience was limited almost cold. Performers need to understand that despite the crowd not meeting their expectations of attendance, people have paid hard earned money to be in those seats. Patrons have the expectation of being entertained at their artists’ BEST which did not happen. People spent more time traveling, eating dinner (that’s another review) longer than she performed. It is a nice intimate venue that she had the opportunity to make it special, and it was not.

  • Talk About Smooooooth!

by Brad K in Phoenix on 10/7/24Gila River Resorts & Casinos - Wild Horse Pass - ChandlerRating: 5 out of 5

In one word, Smooth! Lalah is truly an experience you really do NOT want to miss!! She really connects with the audience on her favorites and even encourages them to sing along. I did, and loved it. Her band is great and so full of talent. All in all, a truly memorable event and one that will live long in my memory of really remarkable music events!

  • Smooth vocals

    by K Dizz on 10/1/24Warner Theatre - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Lalah Hathaway still has those pipes. The concert was amazing, and the opening act Ju Bu did not disappoint. My only complaint is with the venue. I think it's time for the Warner to renovate. The seating is extremely uncomfortable and the venue is not ADA accessible. But, I had an amazing evening grooving to the sounds of Ms. Hathaway.

  • Incredible Performance

by Lj on 10/1/24The Charleston Music Hall - CharlestonRating: 5 out of 5

Juju Smith and Lalah Hathaway were simply outstanding. Both are masters of their respective instruments. Lalah's voice and Jubu's guitar virtuoso performances!

  • Carols Lalah Hathaway concert! I thoroughly enjoyed it.

by CB on 10/1/24The Charleston Music Hall - CharlestonRating: 5 out of 5

It was a great experience to see some of my favorite artists

  • Stage presence and song selection were awful!

by Unsatisfied on 10/1/24The Charleston Music Hall - CharlestonRating: 1 out of 5

Her attire was sloppy and not “worthy” of a performer of her caliber or age. Croc like slides, baggy jeans, and T shirt were not appropriate for the mature crowd attending her show. The opening act was better received and given more focus during her time in the stage. The wait for an encore was extremely long.

  • Amazing

Lalah Hathaway has been one of my best female singing artist for a long time. I enjoyed me, myself and I at the show Friday night, and can't wait to see her again!!!
