  • Lalah Hathaway and Mike Philips

    by Today2 on 7/22/11Chene Park - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

My 5 stars are ALL for Lalah Hathaway, who I believe is the best female vocalist in today's music business. She has enormous talent, and I think just as highly of her back-up singers. At first I was worried that she would not perform songs from her early albums because she sang one of Earth Wind and Fire's hits as well as one by Anita Baker. I was thinking, "Oh my goodness, surely she is not going to waste time on other artists' songs when she has SO much from her own repertoire!" I believe that she may have had minumum faith in the Detroit "Chene Park" audience; perhaps she figured that the majority were not true fans. I would like to apologize for the ignorant woman who walked up on the stage during the concert. You could see that it was unsettling for Ms. Hathaway. That selfish idiot interrupted the concert while Lalah was performing at a peak: Her scatting was at a level that would have made Ella Fitzgerald proud! I would even say that Lalah was taking it to another level! Bravo, Ms. Hathaway! And, forgive the fools.

  • Lalah Hathaway/Mike Phillips Concert was the BOMB!

by DeeJaa on 7/22/11Chene Park - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

The Lalah Hathaway/Mike Phillips concert was EXCELLENT!!! Their bands were very good and NOT so loud that I couldn't hear the main artist. Mike can PLAY that horn and had so much energy. Lalah voice was so melodic and strong and I could clearly hear it above the band. Her background singers were good too. But her guitar player "threw down" on his solo. The only complaint was I wish they both could have sang and played longer. We took our two kids, 9 and 11, and they said they really enjoyed their first concert. They love Mike Phillips music and were excited to see him in person.

  • Lalah was terrific!

Excellent show and presentation. Mike Phillips was the warm up and he demonstrated amazing talent.

  • Lalah was gracefully the best

Great concert. Despite the heat and other issues, she put on a performance that I remember for a long time. Also, gave me some advice to me personally as we talked about life that I will cherish

I really enjoyed the concert. Lalah's performance as wonderful as well as her band and background singer!!! Great music and she didn't skimp on the number of songs that she performed, even did an encore number! The only item that I didn't like was the fact that the venue was apparently oversold and very crowded with not enough seating for all guests.
