After first hearing Ladysmith Black Mambazo on the Graceland CD and listening to their CD's too, it was a joy to see them in concert. What a fun group of singers! Thanks!

  • Ladysmith has come of age!

This is the third or fourth time I've seen Ladysmith Black Mombazo. The last time I saw them there were MAYBE 100 people in the audience. The group came onstage, sang and left. What a difference a few years makes! This concert was SPECTACULAR! Ladysmith has evolved into a real EVENT, as opposed to just some a cappela singers. Stunning show, gorgeous and WONDERFUL venue (I'd never been before)...I'll remember this concert for years to come! Thank you thank you thank you Ladysmith!

  • A Lifetime Memory

I have been listening to Ladysmith for about 30 years and was able to see them in person for the first time. Joseph Shabalala is a hero for South Africa and an inspiration to me. His faith and desire to influence the world for good through music is outstanding. Hearing the men in person and seeing their energy expressed while they sing is a memory I will always think back to. The music was powerful. I was enchanted by the unique sounds of their language. I've never seen a group sing with so much physical energy through the whole evening!

Their performance was so worth waiting for! I have followed this group since 1986 and having the opportunity to see them live (8 rows back and dead center) is a memory that I will hold close to my heart. Their passion was contagious!

  • Ladysmith Black Mambazo rocked!

by Syabonga on 3/17/10University of Denver - Newman Center - Gates Concert Hall - DenverRating: 4 out of 5

Ladysmith Black Mambazo brought an amazing, heartfelt performance with their unique african harmonies and accompanying dancing. Most of the songs are in their native language, IsiZulu, which is beautiful. I would, however, recommend that the words to some of the songs would appear in English also, so that the audience can relate to it better. The group was very sincere and their humor refreshing. They reflected the South African spirit of warmth, hospitality and "ubuntu". I would have preferred more songs from Graceland, but their rendition of 'Homeless" was unforgettable. Tsjosoloza was also a great moment. N'kosi Sekelela e'Africa would also have been great. All in all, a very enjoyable performance which I would highly recommend.

  • Ladysmith Black Mambazo Denver was Amazing

by Worldmusicfans on 3/17/10University of Denver - Newman Center - Gates Concert Hall - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen them several times in different cities. This is the first time we went with children. Our nephews are 7 years, 5 yeas and 3 years old. It is a two hour show and we were not sure if they could make the whole show. One hour was perfect for them before they become tired. They drove 4 hours to get to the show and that may have been part of the reason. There were several other children their age at the show which seem to do well. I highly recommend the show as always. The boys would likely go again when they are a little older.

I really enjoyed the opportunity to hear such a compelling, wonderfully orchestrated acapella group. There voices were pure to the soul and such magnificient radiant sound. I attended with a good friend who happened to be a native South African. She help me understand the motions, movements and stories behind their voices. The Carriage House is the perfect venue for such an intimate event. I would highly recommend seeing this group anytime they come to the bay area.

  • Great Evening

by esva on 3/9/10Avalon Theatre - EastonRating: 5 out of 5

I invited my mom and sister to come for the weekend and go to this concert. Ladysmith Black Mambazo was very entertaining and I was surprised when the show was over. We couldn't believe that we had been there for two hours! They included some audience participation that was really fun. I usually don't enjoy that sort of thing. I always enjoy shows at the Avalon Theater because it is so intimate.

  • They were amazing

It was a great concert. We had front row seats, so we felt like we were right next to Mambazo.
