  • La Boheme was incredable!

by Iona on 10/2/09Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

I laughed, I cried, I wished for a love like theirs. The actors and the music melted together, I could feel what they were feeling as their voices and the music told the story of love. I totatally was surprised on how much this opera touched me, I didn't want it to end. If you love, love..this is the opera for you and that someone YOU love..Bravo!!!

  • first time to an opera

by Anonymous on 10/2/09Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 3 out of 5

It was our first time to the opera. The singing was great, the set mediocre, and the subtitles a must. The plot was not very deep so my attention was not captivated. It reminds me a lot of the show RENT. I say it's worth it for tickets $50 and under.

Opera, about as good as it gets, and it was excellent, right here in Portland.

This performance was totally extraordinary. I will never forget it. The voices, the comedy, and the joy and heartbreak rocked every part of my being. Everyone should see it. It is truly the greatest love story of all time.

  • Life changing event!

    by violoncello1 on 9/30/09Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

A career playing and teaching the cello had not taken me down the operatic road very often. Sunday's performance was my first of Puccini's masterpiece, and as a result I have decided to dedicate myself to experiencing all of the great operas in my remaining years. Congratulations Portland. You have truly opened up an exciting new chapter in my life. Thank you.

  • La Boheme was captivating!

    by vandy66 on 9/29/09Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

As soon as the curtain opens, the magnificent set draws you into the characters' world. The use of monochromatic tones in the scenery and in the costumes made you sense the poverty and dreariness. Every burst of color represented hope and life. The singers poured emotion and flavor into every utterance. Musetta bounded flirtatiously, Marcelo and Rudolfo exhibited a bond of old friends. Mimi captured the heart of the audience as soon as she blew out her candle. Every aria brought thunderous applause, and the orchestra itself deserved a standing ovation. Every aspect of this production is entertaining. If there are still tickets available, go see Portland's La Boheme.

My wife has always been an avid opera listener, but never had the opportunitey to attend a live performance. la Boheme has always been her favorite. I discovered it was in town and purchased tickets to the Sunday performance to fulfill her dream and to experience what opera was like first hand myself. Niether of us was disappointed! My wife was absolutely enthralled and I was very pleasantly surprised! My wife will remember it always and we were both thoroughly entertained! Bravo, la Boheme!

  • La Boheme was thrilling!

by birdee on 9/28/09Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

Scenery, staging, costumes--all terrific, as was the orchestra The roles were all excellently sung, with emotion and pathos. Definitely a two-tissue ending.

  • the show was wonderful

by jagmrg on 9/26/09Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

Both my wife and I enjoyed the show very much. The scene decorations were very well done, very original, but a little long between sets. The performers were funny, experienced and extremely talented. The lead who played Rodolfo had excellent voice and show depth of character.
