  • First Opera

by CaDo on 11/23/09Clowes Memorial Hall - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first opera - and this was the beginning of an adventure! I plan on seeing many more operas thanks to this production. From the music to the scenery to the building itself, all was wonderful. Clowes Hall was a beautiful venue. If this returns, I highly recommend anyone from the experienced opera attendee to the novice, see this production. It was worth the 6 hour drive from Michigan.

  • La boheme - heartbreaking and beautiful

    by Carolina10021 on 11/23/09Clowes Memorial Hall - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Puccini's music is always memorable and stays in your head long after the performance. The Indianapolis Opera's production had stage sets that far exceeded expectations and added tremendously to the appeal of the performers and their world class voices.

  • La Boheme was sublime!

I saw La Boheme in NY at the Met years ago. I found this performance more memorable and intimate. The performances were superb, We took friends who have never been to a live performance. They were enchanted. The four of us have gone to several Met HD performances here in Indianapolis. Opera has made another couple of fans!

  • La Boheme very good

by Puccini on 11/23/09Clowes Memorial Hall - IndianapolisRating: 4 out of 5

We really liked the show! We're conflicted on the subtitles though. We like that you can follow the details of what is going on better, but it does somewhat distract from the show. All in all, a very good experience.

Wonderful performances, costuming and sets. Indianapolis is fortunate to have this opera company.

This was my first opera, a birthday present to myself for turning 30, and a week-end without my children! It was the most amazing thing I have ever had the good fortune to experience. The first ticket I was going to get would have been in the first row, but I ended up getting a ticket for the first row in the first balcony. It was completely worth it. I was able to look down and see everything that was going on. All of the performers were so amazing, they almost didn't seem really. And the two leading men, oh they stole my heart! I will be treating myself to the opera again very soon. I think everyone should experience it at least once, even if it's by yourself or with someone, but go more than once if you can!!!

We thoroughly enjoyed la Boheme. This was my 13 yr old's first opera experience and she just loved it. She especially looked forward to seeing the show because it had inspired Rent. We look forward to more productions.

This was the first Opera I've ever attended, and I was blown away. It was absolutely beautiful. The sets were fantastic, the actors and orchestra superb- I am afraid to go to another Opera, I don't see how it could ever compare! Very well done and highly recommended.

  • A wonderful first time opera experience!

    by LuLu331 on 10/5/09Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

My first time to the opera has not left me disappointed. The orchestra was wonderful and the show was superb. The cast did an excellent job. The story was cute, and the occasional humor was enjoyed.

  • Enjoyable

by BPoor on 10/5/09Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 3 out of 5

My wife and I are big fans of Puccini. The stage was remarkable and the characters were spot on. We had orchestra seats that were actually under the mezzanine. It got hot and very uncomfortable by act lll. The story itself seems very front loaded in that the best music, romance, and comedy is in Act 1.

  • La Boheme was forgettable.

by Quigley on 10/4/09Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 2 out of 5

My first opera. Doubtful that I will return. Too difficult to hear singers. Extremely hot in balcony. Tickets way overpriced for the quality of seating.

  • La Boheme is magic!

by PamelaJKoppe on 10/4/09Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

Before last night( Oct. 3rd) I had never seen La Boheme live. I was, to put it simply, blown away by the sheer talent and charisma the actor's exuded on stage. Not only did they completely immerse themselves into the story and their own parts, they had an energy that I'm positive no one in the audience missed. The orchestra was phenomenal, and had me hooked even before the curtain rose. I hope everyone has a chance to watch Puccini's greatest opera, it is something which you simply cannot miss.

  • La Boheme was breathtaking

  • I can't recommend La Bohème enough.

The four leads were incredible, especially Rodolfo and Musetta, though they were all extremely good. Beautiful harmonies, exquisite sets and a wonderful, intriguing story.

  • A True Classic

by PtownMannequin on 10/3/09Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

The music was inspiring and the characters unforgettable. Though I was not familiar with La Boheme (I am not a true opera lover but I am learning), the characters and witty dialogue made it truly lovable. From Rodolfo hiding the key of his maiden just to be able to be with her longer or the feuds of Marcello and Musetta, we could all relate to either knowing someone similar to those of Puccini's character or perhaps even relate more closely to ourselves. Whatever it may be, a play that debuted nearly 150 years ago, still can touch us on a personal level. Though on the surface it's foreign, very old and perhaps medically outdated...when you watch it, it's none of those things.
