  • Captivating! Voices "to die for"

by iluvkibbee on 11/4/12Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric - BaltimoreRating: 5 out of 5

This was only my second opera. My first was also a top-notch professional opera by a professional company. But, oh, what a difference the opera itself makes! Add to that the heavenly talent in this cast from the lead singers, all of whom are moving artists in their own way, and you have an timeless and unforgettable experience of love, comedy and grief. The young talent from singers selected from the Peabody Children's Chorus lends a playful air of lightness and authenticity to the children's scenes. Bravo to all of them as well! Welcome Back, Baltimore Opera!

  • One of best of Opera Lyra performances

by LorenzoIlmagnifico on 9/10/12National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - OttawaRating: 4 out of 5

For opening season of Opera Lyra, La Boheme was an excellent choice as werethe performers chosen to sing . Rodolfos tenor was right for the part both as a credible actor while possessing a strong voice projecting throughout Southam Hall. The Soprano fulfilled the role of Mimi brilliantly and the Orchestra realized in their performance the vocalists were supreme. Worthwhile seeing and a great start to the 2012/2013season

Loved the entire opera. Exceptional performance. The staging was wonderful. The singing and acting by the opera singers was totally professional.

  • La Boheme at Belleayre, stars among stars

by HondaRhonda on 8/1/12Belleayre Music Festival - HighmountRating: 4 out of 5

What makes opera at Belleayre so special is that it's a community affair where local residents and summer visitors volunteer their time and talents as stage hands and chorus; the singers, however, are professionals who have performed in some of the most famous opera houses and concert halls in the USA and abroad. The acoustics in the tent are pitch perfect, there are supertitles to help those who have not memorized the libretto and there's now a cafe' where you can dine before the show. The folding chairs (regardless of ticket price) are quite uncomfortable so bring your own pillow and be aware of seats behind poles that obstruct the view of the stage.

Excellent show, the supertitles were great (indispensable for those of us who don't speak Italian), and the Opera House is such a spectacular venue.

  • LaBoheme was SPECTACULAR!!!

by Anonymous on 7/21/10Colony Theater - Miami BeachRating: 5 out of 5

This Opera was amazing. It was my first time at one. My girlfriend is very much into the arts but I prefer sports. I have to say even though I do not speak Italian I was able to understand what was happening because the actors and actresses were that good. I have to say I will go again because of this performance!

  • LA Boheme exceeds expectations

by Crazyforthestage on 7/19/10Colony Theater - Miami BeachRating: 4 out of 5

I never expected to be entertained as I was with this version of La Boheme. Although musically it may not be in the same league as the Pavorotti-Freni recording, the production was extremely satisfying. Both leading ladies are gifted singers and actresses. Jacqueline Quirk was an excellent Mimi and Susana Diaz was a riot in a slightly manic and comedic interpretation of Musetta. Rodofo Cuevas as Rodolfo was a little disappointing in that he did not embody the role in his physical presence and his high tenor is a little thin at times - although he managed the role quite well. As Marcello, Graham Fandrei was excellent both in his stage presence and his deep and sonorous baritone. The other members of the cast were up to the task and supported the principals ably. The chorus and the children were not well managed on stage and looked most of the time like they were posing for a photograph staring at the audience and even smiling and saying hello to friends. It's sad that the Colony was not able to build an orchestra pit because the smaller version ensemble was crowded in the small space between the stage and the front row. The harp often blocked my view when not in use. They managed well enough if not always in synch or in tune. All in all a delightful and intimate performance at a fraction of the cost of Florida Grand Opera at the Arsht.

  • Miami Lyric Opera is Fantastic!!

by Anonymous on 7/18/10Colony Theater - Miami BeachRating: 5 out of 5

First time at the Opera. The Colony Theater was a great venue. Everyone involved with the performance was excellent, singers and musicians. We're already planning to go to their next show in the fall.

This has been the best opera I have seen in a long time.

  • masterful La Boheme

by operabuff on 7/16/10Colony Theater - Miami BeachRating: 5 out of 5

The Miami Lyric Opera is a smaller company in a small and intimate venue, the Colony Theater. However, the performances are always outstanding and this one was no exception! The singing, staging, and orchestra were all superb. They will be doing La Traviata in the fall and another production in the spring. Don't miss them!

  • Enjoy La Boheme bohemian style!

by MirsG on 7/16/10Colony Theater - Miami BeachRating: 4 out of 5

For those of you who are opera lovers, or those of you who want to be opera lovers, the Miami Lyric Opera puts on a wonderful performance of one of the most well-known operas of all time - La Boheme. The story is timeless - the discernment of love and infatuation in the midst of poverty. Puccini's melodies are easy on the untrained ears, and for those of us who know La Boheme well, MLO's performance sends simultaneous joyful and sorrowful shivers down our musical spine. MLO's cast and orchestra are extremely talented, and will make your night worth while. Oh, and for the "bohemian price" of your ticket, you can truly embrace the spirit of La Boheme!

Amazing soprano. She did hit every single note. Great performer.

  • Tenor disappointment

by pastmytyme on 3/27/10Ruth Eckerd Hall - ClearwaterRating: 3 out of 5

I was impressed with the production for a traveling company....the absence of the children in the second act was sad, but realize the impossibility of using locales for the parade. I thought on a whole the voices were very good but I found the tenor to be lacking in projection. I had difficulty in hearing him at times.

  • la BOHEME

    by YorkiesMom1 on 11/23/09Clowes Memorial Hall - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

The la BOHEME opera was fabulous. This is the first opera I attended and I must say what an absolute surprise. The music was beautiful. The story was simple. The end result was gripping, intense and magnificant. The entire audience was so quiet that you could have heard a pin drop.
