  • A band worth traveling for, even if you aren't friends IRL

by resonant locus on 3/14/24The Moroccan Lounge - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Full disclosure: Kayo Dot is my favorite band and we have become friends and worked together professionally since 2012. However, when I say that this last run of shows they completed on the West Coast in 2024 were some of the best form I have been able to see them in. The LA show at The Moroccan Lounge was one of the tightest and best sounding of the 5/6 I was personally able to attend. The sound system was tuned nicely to the room (sadly, a rare occurrence these days) and the sound person on tour with them did a fantastic job working with the house engineer and distributing the sound of a band I'm intimately familiar with on a new system every night. When small / mid sized venues can achieve this kind of all-around standard of quality, it creates an incentive for people with sensibilities similar to mine want to come back, and also recommend it to others. Also, if it wasn't clear, KAYO DOT is an AMAZING band. Check them out or book them if you can.
