Great show! Jeff sounded great and was very funny and chatty with the crowd.
Haunting moments, great Inside Baseball crowd, high-energy electric-guitar-based songs like "Impossible Germany" felt hollow.
The show couldn't have been more impressive. Mr. Tweedy was personable, fun, and his song selection was impeccable. I never say this, but I couldn't have been happier with the show.
he sounded great, the venue was pretty. only complaint was the staff member changing the garbage during the acoustic set, it was loud and took too long.
amazing as usual. captivates the crowd, engaging, funny, soulful, articulate, and harnesses emotions we all feel but are often without words for.
I have never been to a concert like this before and it was so refreshing and fun!!! I would love to experience Mr. Tweety's concerts in this format again!!
This setting gave a good insight, more than when playing with the full band, into his personality. He was great singing and best when he was mixing in stories. I understand he wants to make it an all request type show, but he said himself, there were "not any songs I would have picked"..."that's not a good song"...he made many references to it. Ultimately, he ought to pick more of the songs he believes will entertain a larger cross section of audience, versus focusing on the people that were standing in line early.
The show was awesome. Jeff is so engaging and fun. Wouldn't miss a Tweedy or Wilco show.
Great music and entertaining musician! I would go back to see him at this venue next year and will tell everyone I know about it! Amazing!
What an incredible show! I was so sad when it was over. Next year just can't come fast enought!
This is the second time I've seen Tweedy solo, both at the Vic for his benefit show. I really think the request-song structure is a really neat idea and shows how personal Tweedy is with his fans. However I think this system has backfired. Too many of the songs I felt were chosen either to try and stump Tweedy, or attempt to show just how insane of a Wilco fan requesters were. Unfortunately this made the show less enjoyable than it could have been. It seemed at times Tweedy didn't seem interested or happy to play some of the older or more obscure songs but he kept to his word and played each one. It was awesome to hear rare songs like Dylan's "Simple Twist of Fate" and other songs like "Laminated Cat" "Someday Soon" and even some Tupelo "The Long Cut." I still think the majority of the audience wanted to hear more core songs. Even if it's nice to hear the rare ones, it doesn't make them better or more fun than any of the mainstream Wilco songs that have brought himself and his band to fame (and I feel most people went to see) As far as Tweedy's performance however, he was stellar. He played each song requested and entertained the audience with his unique charm. Musically he was dead on. He put up with a lot of drunks who felt the need to be obnoxious and in some cases disrespectful. People talked during songs, made rude comments and overall killed the mood in some cases (That whole thing about Jay, who asks things like that?) He worked through all of that and I think he deserves a lot of credit for being such a good sport. Overall it was a great show. However, I feel the request system needs some improvement, and I feel people should be more respectful to an icon like Jeff Tweedy (Especially at a Montessori School fund raiser. Come on people.)
Love watching Tweedy play. His easy rapport with the audience is engaging and made me laugh out loud often. He is both intense and vulnerable, I'd like to have him and his wife over for dinner. I took my 8 yr-old-daughter and she thought it was super cool. I'm going to watch for this show next year.
I just love Jeff Tweedy and Wilco. Tweedy is a great writer and front man. He is fun and engaging and I love his vocals and lyrics. I was smiling ear to ear at this show. Wilco is my favorite band of the day and I feel so lucky that he has claimed Chicago as his hometown and that we get treated with this annual intimate event.
One of the best shows i've ever been to! I was in line before the show and got acuff rose played
Once again Jeff Tweedy provided an intimate, fun loving show for everyone there. It is like you are right there in his "living room". Its wonderful to get to see this side of a "superstar". Charismatic, funny and down to earth, REAL! Thanks Jeff, rock on
I have never seen a show like this one. The whole concert was by request. The songs were requested by the first 30 people standing online outside. He played songs from the past 5 years. "Screen Door," a 20 year old song, was from Uncle Tupelo's first album. He was constantly interacting with the audience so the show was not only musically phenomenal, but Tweedy was hilarious, in his own sarcastic way, as well. Both my wife and I felt as though we were watching a living legend...and I think we were right.
The Jeff Tweedy Concert was absolutely amazing! He plays again tonight so we just bought tickets and are going again. Can't wait!
I love all things Wilco and Jeff Tweedy. I was stoked to go see this solo show at the Vic, becuase the venue is so small that I knew it was going to be great but it only lived up to 50% of what I hoped it would be. Overally, his voice and the sound couldn't have been more perfect....I wish I could bottle him up and have him sing live in my house for me every day! And the fact the show was for charity make it even better. UNFORTUNATELY, he let the first 30 people to the show select the night's set list. I really and truly thought his biggest fans would make better choices than what they selected. Nearly all (but a few) song choices were horrible - two of the worst that stood out 1) someone selected a song he wrote for his KIDS school class about a monkey (of all the songs you could pick, really???) and 2) a neil young song (so of ALL the songs Tweedy's written none aren't good enough). It's almost like these fan were trying to be "too cool" and select these obscure songs.... Bottom line, I will of course see Wilco and Tweedy any time he's in town but suggest that he chose his own set list moving foward. Insane insane. I'm just happy the money went to charity.
Jeff's show was astounding and a great way to treat my son who was visiting for the holidays. he was just as astounded as everyone else and he had no idea that he was going to get such a treat.
