About

Jeff Tweedy, aside from being the frontman for his own successful indie band Wilco, has also played with a number of bands worthy of "supergroup" status. The most well-known of which is Uncle Tupelo, the now legendary alt-country group of the late '80s and early '90s. Other projects have included playing with Golden Smog (made up of members from Soul Asylum, Big Star and Jayhawks), recording for Jim Cuddy of Blue Rodeo, and collaborating with Billy Bragg as well as ex-Sonic Youth member Jim O'Rourke. Tweedy's 2002 solo album, Chelsea Walls, is also the film soundtrack for actor Ethan Hawke's directorial debut of the same name. In addition to playing with Wilco, Tweedy treats fans to intimate, acoustic solo gigs where he plays material spanning his impressive musical career.

    Awesome show!

by PBSMom on 12/31/09Orpheum Theatre - Phoenix

This was a Christmas present for my husband and it was really a gift for both of us. We thought the show was the best we've seen in a really long time. I would see him again if we ever had the chance.

Didn't miss the band one bit

by Dalbert on 12/29/09Orpheum Theatre - Phoenix

I was a little worried when I realized that it would just be Tweedy and some acoustic guitars--not that I questioned he could pull off a one-man show, but I had seen another performer of similar caliber do the same thing recently, and while good, after sometime I was bored as the songs became pretty one dimensional. Not so with Tweedy--wow! He really put on an amazing show. Great rapport with the crowd--funny, engaging, irreverent. He did some Wilco songs that are highly produced and multi-layered on the album, and pulled them off with ease. Really great evening.

    Never to be missed

by SandyGR on 12/29/09Orpheum Theatre - Phoenix

Jeff Tweedy is...let's face it...as close to a god as there is in music right now. Great show. Only 4 stars because we'd heard they'd been told he would play 2.5 hours, and the show started late and wound up clocking in at 1 hour, 45 minutes. But, he put his heart and soul into it and one after another, each song was bliss. So, put me at 4.75 stars!

Jeff Tweedy is a Sunken Treasure

    by u22utoo on 12/28/09Orpheum Theatre - Phoenix

What an incredible talent this man is. One of the best songwriters out there - in my top three I'd have to say. He has a great voice, a unique guitar playing style, and it all combines into one memorable concert experience. A big Dylan fan who did not know Wilco or Tweedy was sitting next to me at the show - dragged along by his daughter. He loved the performance. So did I. But Tweedy is not Dylan - a lot of similarities, but this man is much better perfomer. I have seen Dylan, so can compare them, but of course that is just my opinion...Anyway, the venue (Orpheum Theatre) is beautiful and had great sound. Orpheum crew was genearlly nice, but did not make the usual allowences for audience reocrdings - had to be done from your seat, so no good boomed mic setups , etc. Oh well..

    Great Solo Show

I didn't think I would enjoy his solo show as much as his band but I did.

    Jeff Tweedy carried the room.

by Weenman on 12/28/09Orpheum Theatre - Phoenix

I didn't know what to expect from the front-man of Wilco without the band. I must say, I was very impressed. A very intimate show and Jeff Tweedy took every advantage of the feel. Conversing with the crowd after just about every song and looking comfortable as the audience was feeling. Strictly acoustic, the play-list covered a wide range of songs that sounded impeccable in the 1920's venue. He was even able to unplug completely and play to the crowd for a few more songs to close out the show. Sitting in the balcony and with the cooperation of the crowd, it sounded amazing.

    Tweedy was in good form

by tamtomato on 12/28/09Orpheum Theatre - Phoenix

Tweedy was full of banter - downright funny. He dealt w/ annoying audience calls w/ wit and grace. The arrangements were beautiful and his voice sounded great. He seemed comfortable and with his whole family in the audience, to be genuinely enjoying himself and happy to be there. Yay for a happy man!

    AWESOME!

by dicole on 12/28/09Orpheum Theatre - Phoenix

I have never been to a concert like this. It was like the audience was part of wilco. We were really interacting with Jeff. I am so glad he came to the Orpheum.

    Quality show from a showman

by skirchi on 12/28/09Orpheum Theatre - Phoenix

Solid show. Great setlist and the banter was very funny. The crowd was really into it too and shouted stupid stuff (as usual) but was respectful and quite when they needed to be. The Orpheum is a beautiful venue and perfect for the Tweedy show. I hope he comes back again next year and plays there again.
