  • Led Zeppelin Rekindled

by DTFanFromLI on 11/27/10Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Damn good playing by the band (no "names" except Jason) and a nearly impeccable set list... 90% of the material was from Led Zeppelin's first five superior albums... plus onscreen films had John dueting with son Jason in several spots... plus lots of rare home movies of John and Jason... Jason was 14 when his dad died... I position John Bonham as the best rock drummer of all-time, with due apologies to Keith Moon and Neil Peart... he's the one who has personally had the most influence on me as a drummer.

  • Great guitar work - everything else OK

If you are looking for a recreation of Led Zeppelin, this is NOT it. There are many tribute/recreation bands who do a better job at creating the feeling of being at a LZ show. If you are interested in hearing live renditions of groudbreaking, timeless r&b influenced rock, this is the show for you. The retrospectives of the legendary John Bonham from the perspective of his son were a nice touch and very sentimental but had nothing to do with JB's role in LZ. It was also obvious that the surviving memebers of LZ allowed none of their footage whatsoever. I have seen several LZ tribute bands, some mediocre, and some outstanding. Musically JBLZE ranks in the top 1/3, but not at the top. Tony Catania is as good an axeman as you can find; his mostly aloof apprach to fingering mulitple guitars evokes a young Jimmy despite his more Gene Simmons-like appearance. The rest of the band is competent. Not having a true Mandolin played in several songs leaves them short of other LZ acts I've seen. Jason himself is merely a good drummer and does little to emulate his father's best work. The dueling session between Jason and video archives of his dad is a cute effect but the piece is nothing special from either one of them. Any LZ act without playing drums solos in D'yer Mak'r or The Ocean without bongo style playing is not doing justice to John Bonham at all in my opinion. There were two hour-plus sets with a 15 minute intermission. Good sound quality and a great value for the money overall.

  • Jason hit the mark!

    by x14cobalt on 11/27/10The Warfield - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

I was too young to catch Jimmy, Robert, JP, anchored by your dad. Thanks to you, Jason, I can honestly say I was satisfied to hear my favorite Zeppelin songs performed LIVE! Jason, your dad may have been the best rock drummer of all time, but you showed us you are even better! Your friends complimented you and your dad's band with a magnificent performance! Your sharing of your life was touching, and the ad-libbing and variations in the sets were fun and inspirational! When the feeling is right, come again! My children and I will be there!

  • Fantastic fun!!

by guitaralpha on 11/27/10The Warfield - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

It was great to see high energy Led Zeppelin songs played respectably. The last four or five sopngs in a set should not have talking between the songs but seemlessly go to the next song, otherwise the show was second only to Paul McCartney this year!!

  • Bonham and Band brought it!!!

by ClassicRockDad on 11/27/10Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Brought my 2 teenage kids to this show as they're both Zep fans and i knew this would best the best live show of Led Zepplin's music they'd ever get a chance to hear! Jason is a talented, engaging, and supremely capable musician and leads a top notch band through 3 hours of the greatest classics of his Dads band. He's a great steward of the bands musical legacy...never competing with band's historey, but instead serving up the music with a real reverence for the band and the tunes. Truly a great night and well worth seeing for EVERY Zap fanatic! BTW, you'll NEVER hear a 'tribute band' both play and sing note perfect. Robert Plant's vocals were replicated perfectly which is something even the Golden God himself couldn't do again these days!!

    A M A Z I N G SHOW !!!!! I closed my eyes and it was 1973 at a real Led Zeppelin show again.

  • Far better than we expected!

by Semimagic on 11/26/10The Warfield - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

We knew that jason would be great, but the other musicians were stellar! The lead vocalist John Dillon sounded like a powerful Robert Plant and even a bit smoother. Guitar player superb. I had looked at You-tube ahead of time and the videos don't make them look that good. But live they were GREAT! So much better than anticipated . If you like Zeppelin at all, definitely go! I would have gone back a seond night if they had another show here.

Well, I hate the floor seating at this venue...the table thing really sux....now I love Jason, great guy and all but he always pisses me off! Even when I saw him 20 years ago I never thought he played the intro of Rock and roll right...sorry bro...Im a drummer who worships the stylings of his dad...and Son just aint got the punch. And using a double pedal to acheive the action on the kicks is just bad. Dad wouldnt approve Im sure! To top it off, he uses the most sucky cymbals ever Zildian K series...ugh...talk about a let down.....Paiste is the ONLY thing that should be used when playing zepplin.Oh well, the guitar player was the best imitator of Page Ive ever seen, thats for sure, he rules!,,The singer was okay..Bassist made a few flubbs....but the films displayed, the old home movies were awesome, Jason is a good public speaker, his narratives were interesting! The drum solo mash up with video was awesome for sure! Keep it going bro! Just hit a little harder!

What an amazingly humble person! So talented and it was evident from the performance along with John in the film footage as the backdrop! He called himself a fan and said we are all fans here tonight! So great! the band was amazing too! I have not had this much fun at a show in a very long time! Will always remember this one!

  • Phenomenal show!

  • Bonham - Zeppelin Experience was UNIQUE!

by Stubbles on 11/26/10The Warfield - San FranciscoRating: 4 out of 5

I made it to the John Bonham's Led Zeppelin Experience two nights ago @ the Warfield theater in San Francisco & Im SO glad I did go since I was contemplating not going up to the last minute. I've been a concert goer since I was 15- I'm 41 now- & I've seen a LOT of different shows, but this one was UNIQUE. Even though the only connection to the real Led Zeppelin was through the drummer's late father, the songs remain timeless! Intimate- somewhat special atmosphere- especially the extra footage of John & Jason & the narratives about what it was like to have the drummer of the world's greatest rock band as a dad. All the songs sounded SO GOOD! Jason got down on his drums, he sounds GREAT! The vocalist really did an awesome job pulling it off- his singing was Thee BEST Robert Plant sounding vocals I've ever heard. All the songs were awesome, & a little bit of the MAGIC still lingers. They were really ROCKIN AND ROLLIN!! The crowd was alive & cool vibes in the air. Fun, really cool show & cool venue. Classic music never dies. AS true when they played STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN, It was great! I can only imagine what the real Led Zeppelin must've been like live- MAGICAL. As Zeppelin is not my favorite band, I do believe they are the greatest rock and roll band ever- rivaled but not surpassed only by the Beatles. I went to the show for two reason's. One was to hear Stairway live & the other was to spend as a father/son thing with my kid- (but he didn't go)- But the WHOLE show was awesome- every song, from beginning to end.

by alliheavenlysky on 11/26/10The Warfield - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

This show was amazing!! I felt like if I closed my eyes I was listening to Led Zeppelin albums. The lead singer sounded just like Robert Plant and danced and moved like him when Robert has performed. Amazing show!!! I really felt like I was at a live Led Zeppelin show!!

  • A W E S O M E

by superzozo on 11/26/10The Warfield - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

I've been a fan of ZEP for last 3 dicades, never seen real one unfortunetely. For me, I had no chance to listen to ZEP songs live in concert in past even tribute, so Jason's attempt was just great! I really had a fun time with my most favorite songs. Last one third of the show, I believe that PA system might had some problem, hardly to listen to everything but just loud. That was sad. So, I'm glad to have another chance to be there again.

  • Jason Bonham did Justice to Led Zeppelin

by Jalisience on 11/26/10Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Led Zepp should be proud. Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin experience will fulfill the dream of someone who never got to see Led Zeppelin live. The musicality and the great voice of the singer brought Led Zeppelin to life. It was an experience from the eyes of the late drummer's son, but it was no less encompasing of the great members contribution to the band.

  • Led Zeppelin was live

by Schubert on 11/26/10The Warfield - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

What a fantastic event to see and hear Led Zeppelin live and in the flesh. Jason was his father at the Warfield in San Francisco. And the players all did their part

Jason did a fantastic job channeling his dad and the band was simply amazing.

  • Amazing Show!

by Lateralus on 11/26/10The Warfield - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

I am a huge LZ fan and was not sure what to expect going into the show. My biggest worry were the vocals, but James Dylan did an incredible job. The set list was great and the whole band pulled it off. There were times when I closed my eyes and thought LZ were performing. I thought it would be good but not that good. The video clips were very entertaining and it was awesome to see Jason play Moby Dick along with his dad, thanks to modern technology. It was also cool to meet and shake hands with Jason's beautiful young daughter.

  • Brought Back Memories For My Wife!

by whatalife on 11/26/10Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

I surprised my wife with dinner at Matsuhisa on LaCienega, Beverly Hills, then after an hour of her begging me where we were going, I finally pulled out the tickets. She was impressed but immediately thought back to when she saw Zeppelin live in Tokyo, Japan. Unlike their reputation, she remembered that they were so polite and respectful of the Japanese culture. Jason and his group were just fantastic! If you closed your eyes you could go back in time reminiscing about all the times and parties you would hear Zeppelin in the back ground blasting away. It's amazing we still have enough brain cells left to remember, but obviously those are the days that we'll never forget. My wife especially won't forget having a front row seat in Tokyo Japan when she was Sweet 16 staring at Plants crotch all night with a Union Jack patch on it. Yes, my wife has fond memories, those were the days. My soul mate and wife of 33 years tells me that's one of the reasons why she was so attracted to me, because of my Boston accent, and the fact that I looked like Plant, a Baby Boomer, Hippie. So in closing it was a fantastic night for us and the musicianship was impeccable. Bonzo, Plant and Page must be so proud and happy of Jason's accomplishment, certainly a tall order! Hope to see them again soon! Thanks for the memories Jason!
