Jackson Browne has written and performed some of the most literate and moving songs in popular music and has defined a genre of songwriting charged with honesty, emotion and personal politics. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 and the Songwriter's Hall of Fame in 2007.
Except for a brief period in NYC in the late 1960s, Jackson has always lived in Southern California. His debut album came out on David Geffen's Asylum Records in 1972. Since then, he has released fourteen studio albums, four collections of live performances, two "best of" compilations, two DVDs and several single recordings. Jackson's newest studio album, "Downhill From Everywhere" was released in July 2021 and GRAMMY nominated for Best Americana Album.
Browne is known for his advocacy on behalf of the environment, human rights, and arts education. He's a co-founder of the groups Musicians United for Safe Energy (MUSE) and Nukefree.org and a member of the Ocean advocacy group, Ocean Elders.
In 2002, he was the fourth recipient of the John Steinbeck Award, given to artists whose works exemplify the environmental and social values that were essential to the great California-born author. He has received Duke University's LEAF award for Lifetime Environmental Achievement in the Fine Arts, and both the Chapin-World Hunger Year and NARM Harry Chapin Humanitarian Awards. In 2004, Jackson was given an honorary Doctorate of Music by Occidental College in Los Angeles, for "a remarkable musical career that has successfully combined an intensely personal artistry with a broader vision of social justice."
Excellent Show, played many of new songs and the classics. Had great supporting cast as well!!
What a great show! Jackson can still kick it with the best of them. Combine that with a beautiful summer night and an awesome outdoor venue, the Ives Concert Park and we had a night to remember for years to come. Jackson was comfortable and laid back, joking with the audience about the playlist which had a nice mix of old and new stuff. All in all it was a great night.
The band was so professional, consistent and TIGHT! The back up singers blew everyone away, they could have their own concert, super voices, great blending with Jackson. But most outstanding was Jackson himself - does this guy NOT AGE? He looks fantastic but more important he sounds like he did 35 years ago! PERFECT! His energy was great and gave an outstanding show. I can not rate this higher!
Jackson was his usual wonderful self - in excellent voice, and looking as good as ever! He performed a good mix of both old and new, and interacted with the audience. Weather was great, and the venue (Ives Concert Park, Danbury, CT) was terrific.
His music touches base. Last night's show was done well, and though I am more used being with him in smaller settings, he still keeps an intimate interaction with audience. I was pleased I had a chance to hit that show. Best, Joe
I went to this concert mostly to recall high school/college days. Jackson Browne played very few old songs despite frequent requests from the audience. His voice was good and his background singers were good but I didn't go to this concert to hear songs I didn't know. A die hard Jackson Browne fan might feel differently.
A lovely evening with friends at a beautiful spot to listen to a true master. Just great!
Jackson Brown was in wonderful form- most of the evening! His performance rocked for people who are real fans and enjoy ALL of his music- new and old! If you wanted to just hear the Radio songs- you might have been bored at times!!!
Held in a very casual outdoor setting on a beautiful summer evening, Jackson Browne showed the audience that he is still a gifted musician. In very good voice, he moved between several guitars and the keyboards as he performed with his band and two backup singers, who added nicely to the show. He combined his older music with the newer, although noticably absent were Stay and Here Come Those Tears Again. His first set lasted for one hour. Following a 20 minute intermission, he performed for another one hour and twenty minutes, including one encore. He playfully interacted with the audience many times during the concert and had everyone standing on their feet by the end of the show. Jackson is magical in his simplicity. Just what you would expect, a talented musician who sings from the heart. A wonderful evening.
Having seen Jackson Browne numerous times during the past 30 years, I see myself as a seasoned fan - although not always impartial. The setting for the concert was magical in setting and temperature. Jackson commented several times about the beauty of it all. His music was a touching gift to us all as it spanned nearly 40 years of his songwriting. I now feel inspired to buy his new cd after hearing a few of his new songs. In addition, he created new arrangements of his old standards using two female background singers who blended magically with each other while creating an updated version of some classics. As always, Jackson had impromtu comments that were humorous and timely. Another successful outing for Jackson and his band.
Just what I was afraid of - he played stufff no one knew, and it was all kind of depressing. We wanted the old stuff - Pretender, Dr. My Eyes, etc. We left before the encore so maybe he played a couple but it was definately a let down.
Wonderful setting outside by a lake. Gorgeous night under the stars, fabulous show
Jackson Browne hasn't aged a bit, and his voice, in concert, sounds as clear and amazing as it did on vinyl 30 years ago. I wish the show was longer (2 hours), and I wish David Lindley had played with him, but he was still unforgettable. The only real complaint I had was about the venue, specifically, the parking. We had to park literally nearly 2 miles from the site, walking uphill the whole way, hauling our cooler, etc. Everyone was complaining about that. The Ives Center really should have a shuttle bus when events are sold out, since they clearly don't have adequate parking. Still, it's a lovely venue and I am impressed they booked someone of Jackson Browne's caliper. He continues his tour, and I highly recommend his fans go to see him.
Fans wanting to hear the hits walked away unfulfilled. While the Pretender, Rock Me on the Water, Doctrine My Eyes, Runnin' on Empty and a few other recognizable hits were interspersed throughout the show, many fans grumbled over the overall mellowness of the material and were obviously not expecting to hear so much of the new. The sparkling clear and starry night, though, kept even those fans engaged, and most left at least satisfied, if not ecstatic. Jackson's voice was youthful, clear and inspirational, and his band was tight. On this night, there were no republicans or democrats, and despite a few dissenters, freedom and celebration ruled.
Jackson Browne was great last night at the Ives Center in Danbury, CT. His band and backup singers were worthy of his material as well. The only problem I had with it personally is that he didn't play more of his best material - new and old. He has such a long list of songs to his credit, though, that it has to be impossible for him to hit every song that every individual would want to hear. I had wished he would have played "Sky Blue and Black," and "Daddy's Tune," - two sentimental favorites of mine. It was a beautiful night for an outdoor concert, though, and Jackson was in great voice, and good humor... he is still a great stage presence.
Thought the venue was nice, up close. Thought we would get eaten by mosquitoes but not one bite. Music sounded better the further back you went. Would certainly go to another at that location. Will see him again Friday.
Wonderful performance - the sound quality was great, the backup singers were wonderful, and Jackson Browne sounded amazing. Highly recommended to everyone.
Jackson Browne's tried-and-true talent shone through brilliantly at the Ive's Center Monday night as he performed before an enthusastic sellout crowd. And not to disappoint, fans called out tunes and he accommodated on numerous occasions. Three hours later the audience was standing and cheering as the tempo picked up and he ended the show with his longtime hit "Running On Empty." Browne was right on after all these years, proving that enduring rock stars don't necessarily have to fade away so long as they can still pack a punch. His was a knockout!
This was one of thee best shows I've been to in a long time. Jackson Browne played such a songlist! The Ives Center is a great venue. The night was beautiful out-of-doors and the 12 of us had a wonderful picnic. Not being able to bring beverages is a bit of a hassle though. Staff was vrey friendly. Everyone said that this was a SPECTACULAR time. I see that the reserved seats were full all night long, usually half the crowd leaves an hour in, so that tells you what good energy abounded. The two female backup singers with Jackson were wonderful, they really sounded great. Everyone rushed the stage at the end and we were all dancing and singing-fun,fun,fun!
Not having seen Jackson Browne before I wasnt sure what to expect....I was pleasantly surprised to hear his voice as strong as it always has been and a very tight band of professional musicians backing him up. He interacted well with the audience and seemed genuinly happy to be performing.
