About

Jackson Browne has written and performed some of the most literate and moving songs in popular music and has defined a genre of songwriting charged with honesty, emotion and personal politics. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 and the Songwriter's Hall of Fame in 2007.

Except for a brief period in NYC in the late 1960s, Jackson has always lived in Southern California. His debut album came out on David Geffen's Asylum Records in 1972. Since then, he has released fourteen studio albums, four collections of live performances, two "best of" compilations, two DVDs and several single recordings. Jackson's newest studio album, "Downhill From Everywhere" was released in July 2021 and GRAMMY nominated for Best Americana Album.

Browne is known for his advocacy on behalf of the environment, human rights, and arts education. He's a co-founder of the groups Musicians United for Safe Energy (MUSE) and Nukefree.org and a member of the Ocean advocacy group, Ocean Elders.

In 2002, he was the fourth recipient of the John Steinbeck Award, given to artists whose works exemplify the environmental and social values that were essential to the great California-born author. He has received Duke University's LEAF award for Lifetime Environmental Achievement in the Fine Arts, and both the Chapin-World Hunger Year and NARM Harry Chapin Humanitarian Awards. In 2004, Jackson was given an honorary Doctorate of Music by Occidental College in Los Angeles, for "a remarkable musical career that has successfully combined an intensely personal artistry with a broader vision of social justice."

    Jackson Browne ROCKED!

by Donna67 on 7/17/09Ives Concert Park - Danbury

My cousin and I saw JB at the Ives Concert Park in Danbury, it was her birthday and he is her all-time favorite, and one of mine for sure. At first we were excited, we had front row seats, but it turns out ours were the ONLY front row seats at this venue we had never been to before that could see NOTHING of the band, lol! We had their absolutely huge speaker system right directly in front of us blocking us from seeing anything. Well, my cousin could see a foot of his every now and then, and sometimes a hand :-) But then we spotted some seats that said "reserved" (I thought all were reserved if they were purchased, lol) . . . So we figured we'd move until the rightful owners of the seats came to claim them, and see SOME of the show anyway. It turns out they never did come and we were FRONT AND CENTER the entire time. It was AWESOME. His voice has not changed a bit and his songs go straight to your soul. It was a fabulous show and a memorable night!!!!

Jackson Browne was an emotional pleasure

by greatgazoo on 7/16/09Ives Concert Park - Danbury

Jackson Browne, a premier singer and songwriter delivered an emotional ride through the years that proved he is still the Jackson Browne I grew up listening to over the past 30 years. The sound was melodic, smooth and deeply enjoyable. The venue at the Ives Center was perfect. Mr. Browne, thank you for the years of your contribution to music and our society. We desperately need talented people as yourself and the members of your band to continue to keep this music alive along with the soulful messages and story you portray. You made my day!!

    Fabulous evening with Jackson Browne

by BBDJ on 7/16/09Ives Concert Park - Danbury

As always, over the last 10 years, we love coming to the Ives for concerts. The venue is roomy, fun on the lawn, the staff members were terrific and very courteous. We have been to other similar venues, however Ives is the nicest. Our relatives drove 6 hours round-trip to join us for this concert, as well as, for Lyle Lovett last year. Jackson Browne put on a terrific concert, like a guy next door, but with a wonderful singing voice. It was very enjoyable to hear him live. Wish you would put on more concerts, in years past, we came 2 or 3 times during the summer.

    Jackson Browne Disappointing

by scuba75 on 7/16/09Ives Concert Park - Danbury

Jackson Browne's concert at the Ives theater was very disappointing. He played only a couple of his old hits. After a while, all the songs seemed to sound the same. We kept waiting and waiting for some old standbys and finally gave up and left at 10 PM. Friends who attended had similar feelings about the show.

Fantastic concert at an intimate venue

by lbladge on 7/16/09Ives Concert Park - Danbury

The setting, with the gazebo stage sitting on a small lake, made for an intimate concert. Jackson Browne was fantastic, and can still draw a crowd and land multiple standing Os throughout his set. The only downfall: the chairs in the concert park were small white plastic and metal folding chairs, set up with minimal space between rows. Even with a 5'6" stature, I felt a little uncomfortable at times throughout the concert. Also- I would not recommend getting lawn seats at this venue, unless you are willing to show up 2 hours early. The only good lawn seats are a set to the left side (looking at the stage). If you are not in this area, you will either be looking through a fence, at a screen and not the stage, or Both! Not ideal.

    Jackson Browne forgettable

by disappointedinCT on 7/15/09Ives Concert Park - Danbury

The Jackson Browne concert at Ives Park in CT was so slow moving it almost stopped itself before it began. Crowd kept waiting for some signature songs . . . still waiting.

    As good as ever

by rainsongman on 7/15/09Ives Concert Park - Danbury

The show was great and the audience received him and responded to him very well, except for one or two idiots who thought that their outbursts wee funny. JB was a class act non the less. His re-working of some of his songs w/ his back-up singers taking on more vocal responsibilities were truly amazing. 3 hours of JB W/ one 20 min break was definitely worth the price of a ticket. For all hard core JB fans, I strongly recommend going out to see him this time around. You will not be disappointed.

    Jackson at his best!!

by Merrill on 7/15/09Ives Concert Park - Danbury

Jackson Browne gave a powerful performance mixing old favorites in with songs from his newest album, "Time the Conquerer". As always he was friendly with the crowd and even commented on what a beautiful spot the Ives Center was. It took a while for the crowd to get warmed up, but after the intermission people began yelling out song requests, and Jackson tried to accommodate. The encore was awesome when he and his excellent band and back-up singers did an old reggae-oriented song, which at one point morphed into some Sly and the Family Stone. The concert exceeded my expectations - Jackson at his best!!

Jackson Browne looked and sounded great!

by roxiecat1 on 7/15/09Ives Concert Park - Danbury

Although it may have seemed a bit subdued for concert goers expecting a more lively audience exchange, Jackson Browne's performance masterfully delivered an artisitic compilation of all his songs spanning the past four decades. Fans from each stage of his career were treated to hits that showcased his musical talent for poetic expression. We heard classics like Fountain of Sorrow, Doctor My Eyes and Pretender as well as some later songs like I'm Alive and Too Many Angels. For his early diehard fans who enjoyed his music in the 70's and 80's which reflected more personal struggles to his later work as a songwriter struggling to express his concern over the worlds ever evolving political climate to his most contemporary songs, Jackson did not disappoint. As one of those fans who started listening to Jackson Browne 32 years ago, it was a real treat to see him perform once again. I enjoyed every minute of the show and I thought that Ives Center Park was the perfect venue for him. It is a beautiful, relaxed setting with the stage situated at the edge of a pond and plenty of lawn area for the audience to gather around. I would go again in a second and would love to see other artists perform there as well.

    National Treasure

by ThePatriot on 7/15/09Ives Concert Park - Danbury

2 hours and 30 minutes of music being performed flawlessly spanning a career of nearly 40 years. Jackson can typically push his politics at his shows, but tongiht he stayed away from that and just had fun with his music and the audience. As with most shows he asked for requests near the end knowing he would be playing his most popular songs. The Ives Center is an interesting setting in the middle of the woods. If you get seats, you will be sitting in plastic folding chairs, so be prepared. Jackson Browne is a great American composer and performer, and you should not miss him when he comes around. His songs from his recent lps are just strong as those ones you know from the 70's.

Jackson Browne didn't want to be there himself

by outdoors on 7/15/09Ives Concert Park - Danbury

Just saw Jackson Browne at the Charles Ives Center in Danbury, CT. His voice sounded great, but he seemed cold and somewhat angry and came across as though he did not want to be there. There didn't seem to be any chemistry with the band and the backup singers (whose voices were also wonderful) barely moved and seemed to be in a trance. The whole event seemed like they were just going through the motions. But the place is wonderful and I will go back just to sit on the lawn and listen to live music.

by jbfanster on 7/15/09Ives Concert Park - Danbury

good to see JB back in action - band tight as usual - two soulful backup singers are a nice accompaniment to his voice. Very good song selection covering four decades of music except for one caveat - no songs played from For Everyman - was hoping to hear Redneck Friend or some gem like that. Always great to hear a classic like Jamaica, For a Dancer, Rock Me on the Water - they did not disappoint.

Jackson Browne's voice is still the best!

by Karwell on 7/15/09Ives Concert Park - Danbury

Many singers and bands try to continue their careers decades later, only to leave the audience disappointed by poor performances or distorted voices. Listening to Jackson Browne was like putting on one of his "albums" from yesteryears! He had great back-up singers and others to complete the band, to compliment him, not compensate for an aging act, as so many others do.

    Jackson oh Jackson

by Beeker1 on 7/14/09Ives Concert Park - Danbury

The man is incredible!! He clearly loves playing with/leading HIS band. They are tight, they play a terrific balance of "oldies vs future oldies". I love the 2 women he has signing with him, they are wonderfully talented, not to mention the stalwardts Jeff Young, Mauricio Lewak, Mark Goldenberg and Kevin McCormack. I can't wait to go again next week. Great show!!!

    Jackson Browne still has it...

by kwagner258 on 7/14/09Ives Concert Park - Danbury

Jackson Browne does play "Runnin on Empty" and a few other number one hits as requested, but he is really a great musician and guitarist. He deserves that as his credentials.

Jackson Browne at Ives Concert Park 7/13/09

by BrowneFan on 7/14/09Ives Concert Park - Danbury

Jackson Browne has been writing incredible songs for many years, and always puts on a great live show. His performance at the Ives Center in Danbury, CT last night was no exception. From the opening song ("Tender is the Night") to his encore ("I am a Patriot"), Browne and his band kept audience members enthralled with a mix of older songs, and a number of more recent ones from his latest CD, "Time the Conqueror." Like a fine wine, Jackson Browne just gets better with age.
