The performers, the Second City Touring Group, were top-notch and pretty game, even though the crowd was old and lame and it was a Sunday afternoon.

The Opponent is a TKO

Bah Humbug - Worth Seeing Just for the Costumes!
by NanaKJ on 11/26/12HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5This is fun entertainment, suitable for the entire family. It retells the Dickens story in Panto and is lots of fun if you participate. The costumes are amazing, such creativity that it blew me away. It is worth seeing for the costumes alone, but the show is fun as well.
Nutcracker has mow become a Christmas tradition.
by btbrianchicago on 11/26/12HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5We went Saturday to "Nuctcracker" . This will be the fourth year. It just seems to get better and better. The chase scenes were incredible and I cry every year. The only thing missing was at the end when the new tree grows. I will be there next year when the bew production is scheduled. Yo are part of Christmas for me.
Well acted, but...
by Daso1 on 11/26/12HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5an ambitious play for a very complicated subject matter. Everything was all a bit obvious. We were underwhelmed.
Griping Performance
by NCWis on 11/25/12HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5This play was hard to watch, but excellent. The performances were outstanding. The set was fabulous.
Brilliant breathtaking adaptation
by ChattanoogaWard on 11/24/12HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5If you're a fan of this novella, you'll probably love it. If you're a Joyce fanatic, you might not love it. The play takes a few liberties with plot and characters, bringing forward aunt Julia more than expected, but for good dramatic purpose. The ending might seem maudlin or melodramatic to a 21st century audience, but I thought it was beautiful and awe inspiring. I don't think you'll be bored or disappointed.
Loved Kyle Kinane - the others were ok
by LKDLKD on 11/21/12HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5Took our teen boys to Kyle Kinane at Up! Kyle's act was hysterical - no more offensive than a Tosh.O episode. Reminded me of Louis CK's humor (which is high praise). The other comedians were hit-or-miss and unfortunately I can't remember their names. The MC (an Indian guy) started slow, but ended well. The 2nd guy wasn't very good. The 3rd guy (who was the Indian guy's roommate) was funny but very offensive. He had a routine that included references (over and over again) to a porn site that beats up on women. Really no way to make that amusing. He had an awkward bit about his dead mom and sister that turned out be humorous. Definitely would see Kyle Kinane again, but might skip the opening acts.
Perfect for all ages!!
by merge001 on 11/19/12HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5Duck for President had catchy tunes and an adorable plot line. It not only was child appropriate and kept the younger ones engaged, but it had underlying adult humor as well. It was very educational in a simplistic way to convince children how important voting is. Very well done!
A Worthy Opponent
by Dreak on 11/18/12HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5The Opponent was a different kind of Chicago theater experience, very physical and very psychological at the same time. Both lead actors really seemed to know the fight game and both spoke in Louisiana dialect. Kudos to both the dialect coach as well as the fight/acton sequence coach for their contributions to the realism of the play. The boxing workout gym was as authenic as real gyms I have visited and the equipment the same as is used in these gyms. Check this one out.
Awesome!
by Battlesnakes on 11/18/12HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5This is a really amazing and dirty show! It's a gay spin on Alice in Wonderland and I think it is very clever, a little gross, but totally hilarious! I highly recommend it if you like dirty, but smart humor and nearly-naked men in towels :)
"Hellcab"---one helluva time!!

great revival
by Anonymous on 11/17/12HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5A wonderful production. The cast, set, direction! and most of all Jonathan Wier made for a delightful evening. The student actors were uniformly excellent and the humor was infectious.
Things the Tour Guide Deosn't tell you
by Nannibuzz on 11/13/12HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5A great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Laughing at the Chicago jokes & appreciating the creativity of the performers when doing improv skits was terrific.
Adorable Play
by Steelyman on 11/13/12HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5Lifeline does a tremendous job with their plays for children. Both kids (5 and 12) truly were entertained with the cute costumes, songs, and overall production.

A wonderful show with tremendous talent. I enjoyed every minute of it. Oh it burns...
The Dining Room was challenging.
by AvgCommunityActor on 11/12/12HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5Our party consisted of myself (university and community theater background), my teenage son (5 musicals, no dramas), my wife and 2 other adults with no acting experience. All the adults were in their 40s and 50s. Reviews were mixed as we drove home from the production. The play is unique to our experience in that the thread that holds the show together is the setting. There are 57 characters (played by, in this case, by 12 actors - originally written for 6). However, there are no connections shaping the vigniettes based on plot or characters. The only thread drawing us through this performance was the setting. Our group had never been confronted with this limitation within the construct of a show before. Perhaps this speaks more of the limits of our experience than the quality of the production. But it was an aspect that we had to fight, as we were always looking for other connections and that may have distracted us from being able to enjoy many of the subtlties of actors craft. I felt the show itself would be delightful to participate in. It would really stretch an actor's abilities - to be required to play so many characters and still enable the audience to easily distiguish each part you were playing. The players at St. Sebastian succeeded in this task remarkably well! We did enjoy some conversation about the various shifting mores identfied in the various time periods throughout the piece. Even more so we enjoyed much conversation about the challenge of creating a drama with the self-imposed limits that the author choose for this work. Overall, I felt this show would be much more highly appreciated by people with at least some theater experience than a general audience. But, we all concluded the evening confirming another enjoyable experience provided by the St. Sebastian Players.
what the reviewer told you
by DoctorSheree on 11/7/12HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5This show was a real treat and I was in awe of the clever comedians..They were terrific and their ability to do the several scenes of improv was amazingly clever. only criticism waw that $30 for a bowl of chips and 4 cups of barely warm (not hot) coffee was $$$ and our server disappeared , never to be seen again. parking in next door lot expensive
What a fun time!
by Dind on 11/6/12HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5This was a great time and the show was fantastic. The music and performers were totally enjoyable. It was one of those shows where you are sad when it ends because you are having such a great time! I highly recommend it! This was our first time at the Metropolis and it is a great theater. We are looking forward to going back.
