  • You Never Can Tell

Shaw is always entertaining. This was especially light-hearted--a relief from all the serious dramas out there. But he has some things to say about women's place in English society in the 19th century and class system in England then.

  • The Christmas Schooner was wonderful!!

by Marisella on 12/30/12HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

I loved the Christmas Schooner! The acting was pretty solid, the singing was good, and the story was amazing. The Christmas Schooner is a heart-warming story about family, friends, and what Christmas really means. I would especially recommend it if you have German heritage and/or are Christian. I was impressed by the obvious Christian undertone of the musical. It was very refreshing to see.

comedy was ok but not exceptional. Seating was poor. Had I known we would be in the cheap seats I would not have purchased thru HOTIX

  • Shallow

by MikeGester on 12/24/12HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 2 out of 5

I was hoping for an insightful and artistically significant play. I was dissapointed. Yes, the multi-depth swimming pool, as a stage, was certainly an innovative feature, but the play did not use it's metaphorical value and sort if "splashed the idea around". The acting itself was mediocre; the set was simple; and the interpretation of Greek mythology was shallow at best.

  • hellcab was different

entertaining and amusing, but too much profanity for my taste!

  • Not as good as the E.T.C. show

by Anonymous on 12/21/12HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 2 out of 5

I saw this show on 12/19 and was disappointed. Most of the humor was predictable and tired, like jokes about differences among white and black people or men and women. And these weren't new, insightful jokes. The gist was, "Black people are cooler than white people, white people fare better with law enforcement, women wish men were more chivalrous, men only think about sex." The E.T.C. show explored some of these same themes but in unexpected, hilarious ways. I barely laughed at the Mainstage show.

The cast was great and the audience was happy. Great combo.

  • Surprisingly didn't feel like I was in Hell(cab)!

by Haxos on 12/19/12HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

I normally have hesitations about going to theater productions, but maybe that's just the pessimist in me. I normally lose interest in plotlines and characters, and the only reason I had gone to see this was because a dear friend was in it. Going in without an idea of what the show was about, I was pleasantly surprised with 25 or so little vignettes of the day of one taxi driver in Chicago. To get to the chase, it was overall very entertaining and easy to follow. No need to remember characters, because they each have their own scene. You'll laugh, get scared, and even maybe shed a tear.

  • SENTIMENT IN THE INNER CITY

by uniklop on 12/19/12HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

Less a play than a series of vignettes, Hellcab follows an immigrant taxi driver through a long Christmas Eve shift. The variegated set of eccentrics, ranging from pathetic to violent, puts the driver through an emotional ringer, as he has to witness dramatic and sometimes antisocial behavior while keeping a straight face. The tension builds in intensity as he must keep everything he witnesses to himself, and only has a chance to unburden on his last passenger of the evening, who chills him down by suggesting, not in a saccharine way, to count his blessings.

  • Joy to the World - Christmas Cabaret at it's best!

    by Letty2008 on 12/18/12HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Another fabulous show from Theo Ubique! A brilliant 45 minute gem of favorite Christmas songs and carols from a cast of amazingly talented singers! I took my husband and parents and we all loved every second of it! A perfect Christmas time event!

  • A superb performace

A very well-done. Given that a lot of performers dont have Indian background, it was awesome. A must watch

It was a great production! And there really aren't any "bad seats" at the Goodman.

  • Best show I've seen in five years

  • Nice performance and lovely venue

by missmuckle on 12/11/12HOTTIX - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

this was my first experience at the Harris and I enjoyed it thoroughly...can't recall going to a venue where you take the elevator DOWN to get to your seats! Great line of vision and acoustics. The first 2 programs were done well but not that inspiring. The "big" number, Casi Casa was delightful, imaginative and very enjoyable. I was reminded of my most favorite Hubbard Street performance many years ago "The Envelope" and was pleased to see the costume for that number on display. Would LOVE to see it again
