Girl Talk on Tour
Girl Talk (aka Pittsburgh's Gregg Gillis) has been constructing meticulous sample-based music since 2000. His early work was known for its raw experimental nature, but by the release of his 2006 album, Night Ripper, that style evolved into genre-smashing, breakneck-paced party jams. Night Ripper consisted of over 300 songs, from wildly disparate Top 40 genres and eras, mashed up and layered together into one cohesive collage. It received critical acclaim, and the attention resulted in a rapidly growing fan base. Gillis ended up quitting his biomedical engineering day job one year later.
Girl Talk continued to develop his signature style with the release of Feed the Animals in 2008 and All Day in 2010. Each album grew increasingly detailed and complex. He steadily toured over the following years, bringing his renowned confetti-covered and sweat-soaked performances to venues ranging from house party basements to major festivals. By 2014, Gillis began focusing on collaborative work producing hip hop for some of his favorite rap artists. That same year, he released "Broken Ankles," an EP with Freeway. Since "Broken Ankles", Gillis has steadily earned an impressive list of production credits and collaborations with his artistic contemporaries including, but not limited to, Wiz Khalifa, T-Pain, Tory Lanez, Young Nudy, Bas, Cozz, Erick The Architect (from Flatbush Zombies), Smoke DZA, and Don Q. Over the course of his career, Girl Talk has packed venues such as Buckhead Theatre (Atlanta), Stage AE (Pittsburgh), and Saint Andrews Hall (Detroit) to capacity.

Great show, fun time. Amped up crowd. Danced all night!
Girl Talk live is an amazing party. The vibe is kind, fun, high energy, sweaty good stuff. Everyone dances. End of story.
Absolutely amazing... Hands down the coolest show I have ever been to.
Sweaty, absurd, wasteful, crowded--yes, all the trippy glory of a Girl Talk concert. And yet the fun was practically wholesome, it was so good.
I left this show wanting MORE MORE MORE! The music and energy was fantastic, and the visuals were fun. If you want a night of nonstop dancing Girl Talk is the show for you! Seriously, all I wanted was for the show to go on for about 2 more hours :).
I've seen Girl Talk at the Wexner Center and The Newport, and he's gradually killed it harder and harder at every show. Now seeing him at the LC Outdoors, his stage setup is massive now and so is his list of samples. He's right up with the times on music, mixing and mashing even the newest songs on the radio along with some classics. He didn't disappoint on this show either, he absolutely killed it tonight. My major gripe was the crowd. I saw they were giving away tickets to the show around OSU, and it showed big time. It was the most pushy, rude, and arrogant bunch of absolute idiots I ever had the displeasure of ever having to be a part of. It was like standing in a crowd of Jersey Shore wanna-be's who are nowhere near as rich and not famous at all, but wanted to act like it. If this is the crowd Girl Talk shows attract around here, I'm going to pass, even with as much as I love Girl Talk's music.
As always, Girl Talk brought the ruckus. Seen him twice now, and both shows were outstanding. Moreover, this time I KNOW he heard me yell for "Oh No" and played it as the encore. (Pretty sure I was the only person who replied when he said, "What do you guys wanna get into--what do you wanna hear?") It was awesome! I'm still feeling this show in my neck. Gregg Gillis, the man AKA Girl Talk, has outdone himself. All Day is his masterpiece, chock-full of great music, excellent old-school breaks, and skillful meshings of disparate music.
Girl Talk is an amazing performer. Fantastic show!
It hits all of your senses. It's non-stop music and dancing for 2 hours straight. It's audience members dancing on stage. It's Greg Gillis going nuts over his own music and standing on his spin table cutting off his pants. It's balloons, toilet paper rolls, confetti, sweat, drinks, insane beats--just nothing else like it. It's a carnival in a concert.
Awesome show, awesome tunes, awesome energy. Only problem was they moved the show last minute to a smaller venue, which made it difficult to dance! With Girl Talk, you want to move around. We were packed in like sardines.
Absolutely best small venue concert I have ever been to...2.5 hours of non-stop beats and samples...simply awesome!
Wicked awesome show. Girl Talk and co. ended up changing the venue a couple days beforehand, which was a good move. The place was just packed enough. Solid openers, electric atmosphere, could not stop dancing ... yes, you too should see this.
I read reviews before the concert saying he was going to do some things differently. I'd heard that GirlTalk concerts are like parties. Therefore, I had no idea what to expect. The openers were not for me, but passed the time. HE (GirlTalk) was AMAZING! It was such a great party. I've never sweat so much in my life. A GREAT time! I highly recommend his show to anyone who is even remotely his fan. YES! Great time!
One of the best Girl Talk shows I've seen. The Wooly's venue is much better then Val Air hands down.
This is my second time seeing Girl Talk. First time was an outdoor concert at Stir Cove in Council Bluffs-which was AWESOME!!! This time it was at Wooly's in the East Village. (orignally at Val Air but was moved) Girl Talk didn't disappoint but the location sucked! Too hot! Next time Des Moines if you get Girl Talk, it needs to be outdoors OR kick the air on HIGH! :)
Great show, Girl Talk brings an amazing energy to his performances!
It was everything I expected and more! If you want to enjoy a 2hour long set of live mash-ups and crazy dancing, see Girl Talk live. Not only was the outdoor stage AE concert venue great and the warm weather, but the music was superb. Although there was a bit too much drunken pushing and shoving going on in the front few rows, it would be hard to avoid. The balloons and confetti were fun and the fireworks (or whatever explosions went off) were an extra surprise. Ending the night with a remix of "Oh No" was a crowd pleaser and a great finish to the concert. I would recommend this show to any friend, Girl Talk enthusiast, or casual listener. I can't wait to see Gregg Gillis again.
This concert was an absolute blast! I've seen him before at previous concerts, and this one was the best yet. Hasn't failed me yet and I recommend going!
Hands down this is the best show I've ever attended. StageAE is a great venue (outdoor show) and the opening acts got the crowd going. Girl Talk put on one hell of a show...fans know exactly what to expect from him and he delivered. 10/10
