Girl Talk on Tour

Girl Talk (aka Pittsburgh's Gregg Gillis) has been constructing meticulous sample-based music since 2000. His early work was known for its raw experimental nature, but by the release of his 2006 album, Night Ripper, that style evolved into genre-smashing, breakneck-paced party jams. Night Ripper consisted of over 300 songs, from wildly disparate Top 40 genres and eras, mashed up and layered together into one cohesive collage. It received critical acclaim, and the attention resulted in a rapidly growing fan base. Gillis ended up quitting his biomedical engineering day job one year later.

Girl Talk continued to develop his signature style with the release of Feed the Animals in 2008 and All Day in 2010. Each album grew increasingly detailed and complex. He steadily toured over the following years, bringing his renowned confetti-covered and sweat-soaked performances to venues ranging from house party basements to major festivals. By 2014, Gillis began focusing on collaborative work producing hip hop for some of his favorite rap artists. That same year, he released "Broken Ankles," an EP with Freeway. Since "Broken Ankles", Gillis has steadily earned an impressive list of production credits and collaborations with his artistic contemporaries including, but not limited to, Wiz Khalifa, T-Pain, Tory Lanez, Young Nudy, Bas, Cozz, Erick The Architect (from Flatbush Zombies), Smoke DZA, and Don Q. Over the course of his career, Girl Talk has packed venues such as Buckhead Theatre (Atlanta), Stage AE (Pittsburgh), and Saint Andrews Hall (Detroit) to capacity.

    Always a good time

by seap on 9/22/09Showbox at the Market - Seattle

If you enjoy a sweat filled dance party along wanna be frat boys, this is your show. I saw him at a music festival and enjoyed that crowd much more than the inside venue scene. Despite the above, Girl Talk will never disappoint a crowd. He has great stage presence and can throw a party.

Girl Talk = Best Dance Party Ever!!

by Bugginess on 9/19/09Showbox SoDo - Seattle

Girl Talk's performance was energetic, crowd-friendly, and so rejuvenating. This concert alone has inspired me to hit up the clubs again, too bad the music won't be as good. I felt like I paid a $15 cover for a fantastic dancing session which is a total bargain now considering we often pay over $10 cover to get into select clubs in Seattle. The transitions were smooth, just when I thought I had heard everything Girl Talk has offered, he comes up with another mix that continues to amaze. Loved his energy, as he hopped up on the table and rallied the entire venue into jamming and jumping. I loved the giant balloons, streamers, toilet paper and spray of water that kept the crowd entertained. Overall, it was so much fun, I have not enjoyed dancing to the beat in a really long time!

by mucluck on 9/19/09Showbox SoDo - Seattle

Great show. Be prepared to shake your rump. Brush up on your cabbage patch and dust off your running man because the electric boogaloo last all night. In general a good time was had by all.

by Winztin on 9/19/09Showbox SoDo - Seattle

Without going into too much detail, Girl Talk brought his A game to the Showbox SoDo, he even dropped the epic Juicy/Tiny Dancer mix. Miss him at your peril! p.s prepare to get sweaty :-)

by lickmyneck on 9/19/09Showbox SoDo - Seattle

Greg Gillis brought amazing energy to the stage. He seamlessly mixes hip hop with songs from the 70's to present. This is a show worth seeing. Bring your dancing shoes.

    Girl Talk Rocks

    by Naturedoc1112 on 9/19/09Showbox SoDo - Seattle

This concert was awesome, very high energy, lots of dancing, extremely packed. The only low point was that they took so long to go on and it seemed like there was an excessive amount of time between the opening bands and Girl Talk. Beware of wayward crowd surfers!

Booty Shaking Fantabulousness at Girl Talk

by Alibobally on 9/19/09Showbox SoDo - Seattle

This show was amazing. Totally lived up to expectations. My only complaint was having to wait until around midnight for actual Girl Talk to come on stage when the tickets said 8pm. Had I known, I would have prefunked longer at my friend's place: hence why I ranked it 4 stars vs 5. I think they should make it more clear what the schedule is.

    GT was sick!

    by Tanner05 on 9/19/09Showbox SoDo - Seattle

The first band was miserable. Absolutely abrasive to listen to. I was very pleased when they were finished. The second guy was pretty sick. DJ was exciting to watch. GT was unforgettable. From start to finish he laid down sick beats and kept the showbox crazy.
