With over 25 years in comedy, Gary Gulman has established himself as an eminent performer and peerless writer. It’s no wonder the New York Times wrote, “Gary is finally being recognized as one of the country’s strongest comedians.”
A product of Boston, Gulman has been a scholarship college football player, an accountant, and a high school teacher. He has made countless television appearances as both a comedian and an actor and is one of only a handful of comedians to perform on every single late-night comedy program.
Gulman has made four successful TV specials including his most recent critically acclaimed stand-up special for HBO, The Great Depresh, a tour de force look at mental illness, which is equal parts hilarious and inspiring. In 2019 he appeared in the international blockbuster Joker. He will next be seen co-starring with Amy Schumer in the upcoming Hulu comedy series, Life & Beth, and is currently writing a memoir for Flatiron Books, tentatively titled K Through 12.

Everything about it was awesome. Loved getting to see Gary in person. Wish I could have stayed for the meet and greet but had to relieve the babysitter. Sat in front of Matt who was the second star of the show. Wish I was Matt! He genuinely laughs at everything, even the first couple of words of a joke! I hope Gulman and Matt connected more after the show.
My husband and I have been fans of Gary Gulman's comedy for years. His humor is witty and intelligent and his execution is pure perfection. The evening at Newport was no different. The smaller venue created an intimate atmosphere where it felt like the audience was part of the show, like Gary was telling stories at a party. The meet and greet event after the show was a wonderful surprise. It was a pleasure to meet and chat with Gary as he took time to talk to each fan. He was so genuine and personable. Great show, great material, great man.
Gary Gulman's stand-up is a wonderful mix of vulnerability, whimsy, irony, and down-right hilarity. His comedy is like no one else's as he excel at being intellectual and yet always accessible. It's amazing how he explores topics that go he completely unpredictable directions. Gary is in total control of his stage domain. His show at Butler University was tone-perfect, and amazingly, it consisted of completely new material from his HBO "The Great Depresh" special. I highly recommend all to catch Gary in action the next time visiting a venue near you.
Gary makes the act seem so effortless that you forget how complex the process is. It was a treat when he would suddenly return to the story after a entertaining sidetrack.
I was very excited about the event and have enjoyed his comedy for years. He performed the same jokes I have heard for years from listening to him on satellite radio and now new material at all. He said several times that he is not for everyone and we were welcome to leave and go play the video games outside. He was combative with the audience and there were audience members that should not have yelled phrases at the comic, but he should be more professional and handled it better. He better mad and left the stage early and told the audience that because of two women the show is over and is ruined. It was not a fun experience.
Gary Gulman is a wordsmith! His comedy is crafted with precision and the result is hilarious. We are still laughing at the written material as well as the improvisations. The is a must see show!
Gary has a very unique delivery to his jokes. He is smart and can come up with and remember twists to his stories. Like any great comedian. His facial expressions make me laugh before he even finishes a bit. He spoke about his depression that brought tears to my husbands eyes with laughter and the feeling “he was not a lone”, then said “yes, he was alone!” Just a great way to poke fun and bring to light his own experiences and made them funny, yet relatable for some. Like my husband. So bummed we didn’t get to take a picture with him. It was late and we needed to take our two sons back to a local college they attend. Maybe next time! Hope he will come back!!
This was literally the best comedy show I've ever been to, literally. His delivery is excellent on all his jokes. I liked his "in this economy" show better but still very entertaining performer.
We love Gary Gulman and he did not disappoint! He was hilarious. The Aura is a nice new space with a few bars inside. The room is a bit odd for comedy as the levels are very separate but we had a great time.
I loved it. I absolutely loved it from start to finish. It was long in a good way. He gave so much to the Audience
Gary was on stage for a full two hours and the opener was solid! If the seats were comfortable I wouldn’t have any complaints!
Every word was magic... he is brilliant and so funny and his heart and story will inspire you- as it has my family. I will always root for Gary- he is easy to love and a pleasure to watch and listen to!
Gary Gulman is non-stop funny. We laughed and laughed. He has perfected his craft, and has reached that stage of skill where he makes it look easy. Yet the pace is effective and so you travel with him, sometimes heart in your throat as he bravely shares things that keep it real. A creative genius, he had over two hours of all new material. Check him out; you will find him delightful!
One of the best Stand up performances I've seen and the list is long who I've been fortune enough to see. The quality and openness of his life's journey was amazing. He did not mince words of his battle with depression, anxiety and recent stay at a psych ward. All told with honesty and humor that left the whole room roaring. He also made time for his fans after the show to take photos and chat in the lobby. Must be nice :-)
We got in line 15 minutes before doors opened and due to GA seating were able to sit in the 3rd row. Great seats! Gary did the best set I've ever seen him do and we laughed so much our faces were sore afterwards. Gary did a meet-n-greet after the show and was very gracious and personal. If you get the chance, go see this very talented comic!
His writing and delivery are great and he was vulnerable. Amazing and personable.
This was one of the best shows I’ve ever been to. All new material. It was genuine, raw, hilarious, and touching. I kept thinking about how great the show was into the following day. I love that Gulman doesn’t lean on easy material that a lot of comedians do. He talked about his own experience and made it relatable and funny. My favorite material from him by far.
Easy entry, friendly staff all the way around. Loved the venue history and the willingness of the ushers to share about it. Great show.
He is hilarious! And I especially loved that he was willing to get personal and talk about depression and anxiety. He made me feel like I wasn't alone.
