About

With over 25 years in comedy, Gary Gulman has established himself as an eminent performer and peerless writer. It’s no wonder the New York Times wrote, “Gary is finally being recognized as one of the country’s strongest comedians.”

A product of Boston, Gulman has been a scholarship college football player, an accountant, and a high school teacher. He has made countless television appearances as both a comedian and an actor and is one of only a handful of comedians to perform on every single late-night comedy program.

Gulman has made four successful TV specials including his most recent critically acclaimed stand-up special for HBO, The Great Depresh, a tour de force look at mental illness, which is equal parts hilarious and inspiring. In 2019 he appeared in the international blockbuster Joker. He will next be seen co-starring with Amy Schumer in the upcoming Hulu comedy series, Life & Beth, and is currently writing a memoir for Flatiron Books, tentatively titled K Through 12.

This is a must see show. Only Gary Gulman can take the dark topic of anxiety/depression, get you thinking and make you laugh. He is one of the funniest, most talented comedians of our time.

Really enjoyed this show - I have been a fan of Gary's for years now, and waited patiently for his tour to bring him here. As soon as I got the email alert from his website, I bought tickets, and blocked off this evening months in advance. I look forward to seeing him perform again soon!

It was the most impressive and meaningful comedy show I've ever attended. Not only was he articulately hilarious, but he was so honest about himself and his struggles that he educated me and others in way that I will never forget. It the was boldest and yet most spectacular display I can remember. He really risked putting himself out there and I think it worked.

  • New Year's Eve With Gary Gulman

by DOSmith on 1/5/18Chevalier Theatre - MedfordRating: 5 out of 5

Great show, extremely funny and he always does comedy routines pertaining to local TV and headlines since he is from the area. Just a brillant comic and quick wit.

Gary Gulman was the funniest most lovable comic I have seen. He had perfect timing, charisma and is a great writer. The use of his somber, sometimes even sad, autobiographical material gave his show depth and universal resonance. He is a genius.

  • A Peabody Treasure

by Peabodyfun on 1/3/18Chevalier Theatre - MedfordRating: 5 out of 5

Gary Gulman is funny - period. He doesn't swear and he's not raunchy. He uses big vocabulary words throughout his act that make you think. He tells stories about himself that you can relate to. He talks about his "depresh" candidly and makes fun of himself in the most endearing way. Go see this tall drink of water. You will not be disappointed.

  • Gary Gulman

    by CatLady02461 on 1/3/18Chevalier Theatre - MedfordRating: 4 out of 5

My first ever "live" standup comedy show by a seasoned comedian! Sooo glad Gary Gulman was a native MA person originally, educated at BC, familiar with the Newton Centre area, hence his jokes' reference to the extremely busy Newton Centre, MA Starbucks store he used to work as a barista, and the local, famous Newton South High School (which has an extremely rigorous academic standard and intelligent student population), whom Gary again referenced in his joke that he" was once passed up as the Starbucks Shift Manager to a 17 year old Newton South High School student named Brendan!"--even though Gary graduated from Boston College with an Accountant degree(!) The Chevalier Theatre was very clean, updated, had plenty of friendly staff who did security checks, ushers, etc. Free street parking was a plus too.

  • New Year's Eve with Gary Gulman

by DOSmith on 1/3/18Chevalier Theatre - MedfordRating: 5 out of 5

He was hilarious. Always new original material and for this show, he put in a lot of Boston TV and news people references. One of the top three comics in the country.

  • Not Funny

by ScubaMac on 1/3/18Chevalier Theatre - MedfordRating: 1 out of 5

We were looking forward to seeing this comedian on New Year's eve as we heard him on SiriusXM and his skits were funny: grape vs grapefruit and history of cookies. Boy, were we in for a huge disappointment. After an hour into the show and where I think I laughed once, I turned to my wife who had fallen asleep and asked her if we should leave, which she agreed. We see a lot of comedians every year and Gary was by far the worst.

  • Gulman is a master at his trade.

by Goyum on 1/3/18Chevalier Theatre - MedfordRating: 4 out of 5

2 hours of great entertainment from one of my favorite comedy story tellers . Don’t miss Gulman if he is in your area.

gary does not disappoint! i laughed the whole time - my face hurt by the end:) ...the two openers were awful, but i don't know if they travel with him or not...either way, well worth sitting through that garbage to get to see gary...even got to meet him aftwards - such a nice guy!

  • I laughed out loud!!!

by FunTown on 8/21/17The Wilbur - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

This show was awesome! I loved all of the comedians, except Dom was not very good. It seemed like something was wrong with him (sick/not well). But Christine, Bobby and Gary were amazing- so funny! Even Matty was wearing a smile and seemed to be enjoying himself. And the cause was amazing- GBFB does incredible work and I was happy to support them!

  • Gary Gulman rocked it

by kandebar on 8/20/17The Wilbur - BostonRating: 3 out of 5

I wish Gary Gulman headlined the entire show. Instead I had to sit through 3 other comedians with varying degrees of potty mouths.
