About

With over 25 years in comedy, Gary Gulman has established himself as an eminent performer and peerless writer. It’s no wonder the New York Times wrote, “Gary is finally being recognized as one of the country’s strongest comedians.”

A product of Boston, Gulman has been a scholarship college football player, an accountant, and a high school teacher. He has made countless television appearances as both a comedian and an actor and is one of only a handful of comedians to perform on every single late-night comedy program.

Gulman has made four successful TV specials including his most recent critically acclaimed stand-up special for HBO, The Great Depresh, a tour de force look at mental illness, which is equal parts hilarious and inspiring. In 2019 he appeared in the international blockbuster Joker. He will next be seen co-starring with Amy Schumer in the upcoming Hulu comedy series, Life & Beth, and is currently writing a memoir for Flatiron Books, tentatively titled K Through 12.

We've been fans of Gary Gulman for years and were happy to see him perform this past weekend. The show was great, and we were happy to hear his new material during the show.

  • Gary the Great

by AmyK on 9/26/23The Wilbur - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Gary Gulman's show was incredible. So comfortable, so fun, such relevant humor. We were laughing and thinking the entire time. Intelligent humor and completely non-offensive. Gary is a gift to the world, spreading joy and levity whenever he performs. On top of that, the staff at the Wilbur Theatre in Boston were fantastic, making all of us guests feel so welcomed. They even assisted with the book signing after the show, making the standing on line process so easy and seamless, and when it was out turn to meet Gary, staff assisted each of us (and there were hundreds of us) with taking a photo with Gary on our phones and having our book signed. The entire arrangement was incredible, made us feel very important as customers and guests. I would go back in a heartbeat and do it all over again, even pay twice or three-times as much (the tickets were incredibly reasonably priced, for GREAT seats!).

I'd only known Gary from hearing him on Sirius. I'm so happy I finally got to see him in person! His act is so relatable. I was laughing from the opening line. It was great to be able to meet him after the show, take pictures, and get his book signed. I'm already looking forward to another live show!

Very much enjoyed the show. Many laugh out loud moments! It was really nice of him to stay and talk to fans afterwards, take pictures and sign his book. He puts a lot of himself into the show, which makes it endearing. Go Eagles!

On arrival to NJPAC i immediately texted my daughter to tell her about this “ gem “ of a theater. ( easy to get to, convenient parking and a great line up of entertainment) We saw Gary Gulman in Pizzazz and thoroughly enjoyed his show. We love his type of humor!

I've now seen Gary Gulman do standup five times over the last 10 plus years. He's still among the best in his field and writing/delivering smart, quality work.

  • Great show

by jerseygirl24 on 5/8/23New Jersey Performing Arts Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

Gary Gulman is one of my favorite comics. His stories that go off on many tangents and then return are just great; they keep you on your toes intellectually and are hilarious. Also, the Victoria Theater at NJPAC is a really nice intimate and comfortable theater.

  • meh

    by B. H. on 12/6/22Rating: 2 out of 5

About half of it was funny. Gary has a great handle on the language and when he gets into nuances of expressions, I don't think anyone does it better. He is so smart. We really love his typical material. That being said, in this particular event, there was too much negativity. In particular it wasn't even slightly funny when he was railing against Jerry Seinfeld, Dave Chappelle, Joe Rogan. I thought those comments were a complete misfire. Then when he got into his gripes against capitalism, I have to say he lost me. That stuff took too much away from a nice relaxing night out with one of our previously favorite comedians.

  • Gary Gulman in San Diego

Gary was very funny and the observatory is a great venue. We had a fantastic evening

  • Give me comedy, not your one-sided politics

by Juliemtg on 8/21/22The Pageant - St LouisRating: 2 out of 5

Gulman was okay until he trashed one political party. The difference between an okay comedian and a great one? A great comedian can pull off trashing both sides, or… …not touching politics at all. We saw Sebastian Maniscalco one week later in St. Louis and he was fabulous!!! No politics…and #1 comedian in the U.S.

  • Gary Gulman’s show checks all the boxes!

by Tracey on 6/15/22The Pageant - St LouisRating: 5 out of 5

What an authentic, well-read, culturally aware, and brilliant puzzle master in his craft. Putting together a comedy act that checks off all the boxes is hard to pull off. Gulman is very present with his audience as he intricately takes apart and reconfigures his comedy act to fit his crowd. So well done. I appreciate him and his attentiveness to being fully present, highly attentive and deeply comedic simultaneously. I Laughed so much, and I am honestly still discussing what he said with others- I’m so glad I got tickets.

  • OUTSTANDING show.

by PKITUP on 6/15/22The Pageant - St LouisRating: 5 out of 5

Gary was VERY entertaining the entire show. He is on his way to comedy stardom.

  • Perfect concert

by Dan Steadman on 6/14/22The Pageant - St LouisRating: 5 out of 5

Gary took on the powerful (Seinfeld, Chappelle), the corruption of dentistry, ranking the Beatitudes, and even some pretty local St. Louis observations (can't we also be the gateway to the east?) in his brilliant comedy concert. He's the best in the business - and the Pageant was a great venue for him.
