About

With over 25 years in comedy, Gary Gulman has established himself as an eminent performer and peerless writer. It’s no wonder the New York Times wrote, “Gary is finally being recognized as one of the country’s strongest comedians.”

A product of Boston, Gulman has been a scholarship college football player, an accountant, and a high school teacher. He has made countless television appearances as both a comedian and an actor and is one of only a handful of comedians to perform on every single late-night comedy program.

Gulman has made four successful TV specials including his most recent critically acclaimed stand-up special for HBO, The Great Depresh, a tour de force look at mental illness, which is equal parts hilarious and inspiring. In 2019 he appeared in the international blockbuster Joker. He will next be seen co-starring with Amy Schumer in the upcoming Hulu comedy series, Life & Beth, and is currently writing a memoir for Flatiron Books, tentatively titled K Through 12.

  • Great show!

    by UM1234 on 4/11/17The Paramount - HuntingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Gary is one of the funniest comedians out there- really underrated, but that helps to get good seats I guess. He is a great guy also and took the time to take pictures and meet the fans after the show. Opener was very good as well. Highly recommended.

  • Gay Gulman is the Best

    by alfcbury16 on 11/8/16The Wilbur - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

This was my second time seeing Gary Gulman and I had an absolute blast! His set was a mixture of various bits he has refined over the years with jokes from specials and late night appearances, but they were still hilarious due to his unique observational humor and clever wordplay. Since he's from the area, he also does a great job of integrating local humor into the set with commentary on Dunkin Donuts and local personalities. What I love most of all is that he takes time after the show to meet with fans. I had tweeted with him several times prior to the show, and he was kind enough to remember me and chat with me before getting a picture with me and my fiance (who is a huge fan of his). Looking forward to seeing him again next time he's in town!

  • Gary was not at his best, but still good

by MikesRandomThoughts on 10/4/16The Wilbur - BostonRating: 3 out of 5

Gary Gulman is one of my favorite comedians, but this was a somewhat dull performance by him. He seemed unusually melancholy, more downtrodden than typical. It was bringing me down, and the show passed by slowly. Despite that, I laughed hard at several points during the show, especially his closing routine on state abbreviations. My parents hadn't seen him before and totally loved it. The opening act Dan Smith was rated R, which was a big mismatch with Gary's more-or-less PG family-level comedy, had to leave with the kids until that act was over. Better to have the opening act and the headliner be similar rating for the audience.

Gary Gulman is a great comic. Well worth seeing. If you enjoy long form comedy you should check out Gary Gulman.

  • Gulman embraces his inner nebbish

by SvenC on 10/4/16The Wilbur - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

I'm a fan of Gary Gulman and loved this show, but it was far more introspective and low-key than his television specials. He lingered long on themes of Jewishness, insecurity, and childhood trauma - imagine Woody Allen speaking with Steven Wright's voice coming out of a 6'6" body. I enjoyed it thoroughly, but those expecting the big smiles and somewhat higher energy of his Netflix specials may be disappointed. The opening act was quite enjoyable, will keep an eye out for Dan Smith next time he is in town.

Gary was great. His analysis of day to day life was cute. He took a picture with us and made us feel terrific. Super time. Laughed until my ribs hurt.

  • Gulman doesn't disappoint--very entertaining.

Gulman is one of a kind with a unique style. Not a single profane word--well maybe one. I would definitely see him again and recommend that those who haven't seen him check his performances schedule to see when he's performing at a venue near you.

  • The phenomenal Gary Gulman does not disappoint!

by UnicycleDave on 5/24/16Gramercy Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

My wife and I have been lucky enough to see Gary at the Comedy Cellar many times, but we'd never seen him perform for more than 20 minutes. So seeing his one-man show at Gramercy was a treat! My mom loved him, too, and said that he reminded her of someone she dated in 1954: Mort Saul! After the show, Gary went to the lobby and hung out with anyone who wanted to shake his hand, take a photo with him, or just give him a hug. He is one of the funniest comics I've seen, and he's such a mensch! I was happy to see so much material that was new to me, despite seeing him perform many times before.

Gary Gulman was relatable, hilarious, and gracious. He even stayed to meet everyone after the show. Would definitely see again!

  • Gary Gulman is HYSTERICAL, as usual.

by JPFS on 5/24/16Gramercy Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

HYSTERICAL. All new material and better than ever. This may have been his best show yet. I was with a large crowd and we all loved it!

  • Hilarious

    by Emm781 on 10/20/15The Wilbur - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

This is the third or fourth time I've seen Gary Gulman perform. His humor is smart. He tells a story, veers off on some tangent, then gets right back on track. When he performs in the Boston area, he adds lots of local references. His act is not filthy like a lot of other comics, and I appreciate him for that. His show is always enjoyable, and I highly recommend seeing him.

  • The always funny Gary Gulman

by mrstibs on 10/19/15The Wilbur - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

This is the third or fourth time I've seen Gary in Boston. He's wicked funny and I love all the local humor. I was glad to know that I'm not the only one confused about the change of NBC to channel 7 (from channel 4). His bit on the two letter abbreviations for the states was hysterical. A couple of the bits were repeats from a past show but that's to be expected. Overall, he's a funny, funny guy and that's why we'll keep going to his shows.

  • Wilbur Theater 10/16 with Gary Gulman

by DOSmith on 10/19/15The Wilbur - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

He has to be the funniest and most inventive comic I have seen and to date, I have seen a lot. He never repeats any past material and is always current, plus he did a lot of Boston area humor for the local audience which just killed. The set on the state abbreviations was just genius. I wish he would perform more in Boston as I would attend every show. Also, his warm-up comedian was great.

  • Gary Gulman is hilarious!!

by CrazyAcctant on 10/19/15The Wilbur - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

Gary Gulman put on a great show. I went with a friend and we brought our 16 year old daughters and we all had a great time. Gary is really funny without resorting to swearing. He makes you think about everyday things in a totally different way. Totally recommend seeing him if you get the chance. Don't be a procrastinator or you'll have to sit in the balcony.(if you were at the show, you know)

  • by Anonymous on 10/19/15The Wilbur - BostonRating: 3 out of 5

Gary made me chuckle, but did not make me really laugh. Saw him a few years ago and remember really laughing out loud. length of his show as well as his ability to weave in topics from earlier in the show was impressive,

  • Gary Gulman = Very Cool, Man

by QueenCoog on 4/20/15Charline McCombs Empire Theatre - San AntonioRating: 5 out of 5

Gary Gulman is a fantastic comedian who references topical issues and situations. He does an entire bit on orange juice, leaving you questioning your life choices about pulp. I highly recommend seeing one of his shows - you won't be disappointed!

  • Majestic

Side-splitting, awesome funny ! Loved the phone bit.

  • Hilarious Gary, Up Close & Personal

by AlliCocoa on 4/19/15Charline McCombs Empire Theatre - San AntonioRating: 5 out of 5

Gary Golman was excellent--totally personal, interactive and even up for taking requests on material and then photos in the lobby after. The theater was awesome too, we were only three rows back but the whole place felt perfect for the type of show. What a great night!

Gary Gulman is a true comedic genius. If you enjoy the likes of Louis CK, and Sarah Silverman, you'll really enjoy his live standup show. His on the road routine is a bit darker and edgier than his more mainstream recorded work.
