  • Future of the blues looks pretty good

by 73fun on 2/22/16The Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater - Miami BeachRating: 5 out of 5

Opening act was good. Gary was amazing, what a talent, great song selection, played for a long time. Seeng him live is an unforgettable experience. He can cross over but he's at his ultimate best playing blues.

Great venue and amazing performance by Gary Clark Jr! I've wanted to see him since his performance at the white house. So happy I did plus a great fundraising event.

It was a great show with an amazing musician at my favorite venue!

Each act was great. The Fox staff was helpful. KFOG staff were so friendly and approachable.

  • Another great CFK

by OaktownFoghead on 12/9/15Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 4 out of 5

Thanks again to KFOG for putting on these annual shows for a good cause and an opportunity to donate to Toys for Tots as well. We appreciate the mix of newer upcoming artists to open the show, like Greg Holden, and the headliners that we get to see in smaller venues like Gary Clark Jr. at the Fox Theater. Houndmouth in the middle was a great choice as well. I've been to most CFK shows over the years and they are all a great value as a concert lover while fundraising, it's such a win-win. And thanks for returning to Oakland this year! My only issue with this year's show was the sound mix quality and/or volume for Gary's performance. It seemed too loud or couldn't be handled by the Fox equipment, there was resonance vibration that muddled the vocals and it didn't sound good with or without ear plugs. My wife was glad they were for sale for a buck at the coat check!

Gary Clark Jr was a revelation! Like KebMo meets Robert Cray with a Jimi Hendix chaser. Daaaaang!

  • Gary Clark Jr. is AWESOME!!, sound was horrendous

by WhateverRose on 12/9/15Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 1 out of 5

We were sitting up in the mezzanine and the sound was terrible. All BOOM BOOM, humming, too much base and too much drums. It completely drowned out Gary!! Could barely hear his voice, let alone his beautiful guitar. We told the staff, they only shrugged their shoulders. We asked them to tell the sound guy, again only shrugged their shoulders. No one checked the sound on all levels!!!!! People were leaving mid concert the sound was so bad!! KFOG, this event was a huge dissapointment and left me annoyed!! I paid for tickets for an event that far below what would be expected with such a talented artist.

  • Third Time's the Charm!

by TheOriginalDude on 11/8/15House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Third time seeing Gary Clark Jr., who stalked the stage at House of Blues on All Hallow's Eve and tore off the roof! I wasn't quite sure what to expect given the broad-stroke eclecticism of his new album The Story of Sonny Boy Slim, but Gary's lead guitar heroics thankfully emerged intact in the live setting! Early highlight 'When My Train Pulls In' laid to rest any lingering fear that he had put his heavy blues behind him. With that said, one of my favorite moments of the night was the soulful slow jam of 'Please Come Home,' with a stingingly clean Stratocaster lead and the finest falsetto the man could muster! Gary largely saved his new songs for late in the set (Grinder, The Healing), throwing a little extra dirt on 'em for good measure. After a 105-minute set, Gary and his band returned for a fearsome 30-minute encore, including B.B. King's '3 O'Clock Blues' and his own 'Next Door Neighbor Blues,' which featured some of his fiercest soloing of the night. A final blast through 'Third Stone From the Sun/If You Love Me Like You Say' capped off the evening in haunting, Hendrixian fashion! Don't miss Gary Clark Jr. the next time he's in town!

  • Amazing show!

by Anonymous on 11/3/15House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Doors open at 5:30. This was a little misleading as the ticket implied the concert started at 5:30. We got there by 5 knowing there was an opening band we didn't really care to see. The opening band (Black Pistol Fire) took the stage around 6:30. They killed it. I had everyone around me asking who that was. I had to look them up, and download there stuff. They were almost too god. Gary Clark Jr is brilliant, but Black Pistol Fire really had the crowd going. I have been to countless concerts, but can not think of another time where I have seen a more energetic band. A duo, very similar to the White Stripes (but with Animal from the Muppet show on drums instead of Meg). The lead singer was all over the stage, jumping off of the bass drum, and even performing from within the audience. By the time Gary Clark took the stage, we were all left wondering what had just happened. Gary took the stage in a winter coat and calmly played "bright lights." I am obviously a huge fan of Gary Clark Jr (I drove over 5 hours to see him that night), but after the energy of the opening band, it took a while to get into what he was doing. He was, however, brilliant as always. Guitar playing like BB King, and at times Hendrix. He excels at channeling the great blues artists in his modern interpretation.

  • Gary Clark Jr. is a must see

by egmwolf on 11/3/15House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I haven't seen a performance like Gary's in my life. As much as I already liked his music on the new album (and old), seeing it live is an ENTIRELY different experience. Guitar solo after solo, it's been unique and amazing each time. This was the third time I saw Gary perform this year and it has been tremendous every time.

  • Gary Clark Jr was smooth cool!

Gary and his band kicked butt...smoking...This 64 year old man totally swayed with them!

  • The Maestro!

    by JSR15 on 11/2/15Terminal 5 - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Gary Clark jr. is PHENOMENAL Live. Such an incredible musician and artist. I was LITERALLY BLOWN AWAY! His complete mastery over the guitar was not only sensational but addictive and mesmerizing. SEE HIM LIVE. YOU WON'T REGRET IT.

  • Seems to be getting better with time.....

    by cochin on 11/2/15Terminal 5 - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

Third time seeing him. First two where good but not great. This time was definitely better. The only downside that I have is his solos. For some reason they seem to orchestrated . Its like he's pushing it instead of just letting it come naturally. But all in all a solid show....Wish though for the hour before the show there was a live local or a warm up band playing. Come on, now that your making it, dig a little into your pocket and give some other bands a chance to be heard....

  • Gary Clark, Jr. NYC 10/28/2015

    by Bullhusky on 11/1/15Terminal 5 - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

This was a very professional concert by a consummate musician. Clark took the stage at exactly 9:00 pm. He played almost every song I expected to hear and I left the show before the encores because I had to catch the last train back to Connecticut.

  • Still reeling

    by Karenin36 on 10/31/15Terminal 5 - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

From beginning to end, such high energy and palpable passion for music. GCJr is but a conduit for the powerful sound generated by his guitars, as if he were controlled by an other-worldly being. He takes you through a full range of emotions with an honest, raw, authentic touch. There is hope for the future of music with this young talent carrying the torch. His band is also excellent, virtuosos in their own right. This is what live music ought to be!

  • Amazing

    by Jesterxzz on 10/31/15Terminal 5 - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Gary Clark Jr. Is an amazing performer. Seeing him play live is an experience in its own. His albums are good but him live is out of this world. He has a soulful voice and shreds his guitar like none other. This is the future right here.

It was great, I paid for a Vip ticket., wish he had a meet and greet . Terminal 5 perfect venue, but they let in too many people. , next time maybe have it at the beacon instead, or maybe even the apollo would have been great. he plays the blues why not have it there.

Doors opened at 7 but Gary Clark Jr didn't come on till 9. The opening "band" was a guy standing on stage playing records...
