About

Erykah Badu, one of the world’s most revered singers, is widely credited as being the godmother of neo-soul. Badu’s blend of hip-hop swagger and smooth jazz draws inspiration from Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and Chaka Khan, and has earned her a total of four Grammy nominations. Pitchfork described the four-time Grammy Award-winning artist’s 1997 debut album Baduizm as an “existential anchor of the neo-soul movement.” The triple-platinum album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, and lead single “On & On” won the Grammy for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance at the 1998 Grammy Awards. Badu’s enduring legacy was cemented on the road, where she has sung to sold-out crowds on multiple worldwide tours. The R&B legend has released five critically-acclaimed studio albums, and has been featured on hit songs by Busta Rhymes, Macy Gray and Janelle Monáe.

  • Badu was amazing!

    by Mari36 on 8/9/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 5 out of 5

Erykah Badu as I expected put on an amazing show! The Godfather of Go-Go, Chuck Brown with Lil' Benny had the whole place on their feet. Raphael Saadiq took us back on a journey through time and Chrisette Michelle sounded as awesome live as she does on cd. Overall, a fantastic show!

  • Summer Spirit tour was the show was the bomb!

by DollyDimples on 8/9/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 5 out of 5

All the artists were fantastic. Show started a little late but was worth it. LOVED Chuck and little Bennie! Chrisette Michelle, Raphael Saddiq, Mike Epps, Foreign Exchange and Erykah were were awesome.

  • Chuck Brown rocked the house

by jazzyjoy on 8/9/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 5 out of 5

The Spirit Festival was amazing. The sold out crowd partied so hard that I know everyone was energized for the rest of the night. Mike Epps was so into the audience and the performers he was having a ball. Tigger played the right music. Chuck brown rocked the house and I loved it. Erykah was outstanding as I expected. I just wished that she had enough to time to sing Tyrone. She looked great and performed well.

  • Erykah Badu was powerful

    by Rere72 on 8/9/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 5 out of 5

The show was incredible!! Rapheal Sadqi, Chrisette Michelle, Chuck Brown, and Erykah Badu were jammin' . My only complaint is that Erykah did not perform longer. All in all GREAT SHOW!!!!!!

  • Summer Spirit Festival

    by Deb1111 on 8/9/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 4 out of 5

Wow! One of the best concerts I've been to all year! Mike Epps was a nice touch; better then the DJ in between breaks. What happened to Foreign Exchange??? I would have given the review 5 stars had they been there.

  • bad ass show!!! pardon my oh well you know...

    by stress2much on 8/9/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 5 out of 5

  • Summer Spirit Festival Awesome!

by SexyK on 8/9/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 5 out of 5

The Summer Spirit Festival was Awesome! I took my seventeen year old daughter and she had a great time as well. All the acts were great!!!!! but Erykah Badu is the greatest, her vibe, energy, and mixology is unmatched. I would see her again and again. Amazing Show!!

  • Great Show

    by Gene2009 on 8/9/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 4 out of 5

I enjoyed the whole show but I would have preferred for Erykah Badu to go when Chuck Brown went and Chuck Brown close the show since half of the attendants don't really listen to go go music. Also, Mike Epps didn't get enough time in my opinion, there was plenty of waiting time between set ups and he only talked for like 3 of them, He was there so he should have performed more.

  • Spirit Fest was AWECOME!

by Kimelva on 8/9/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 5 out of 5

The show was great! The venue was extremely crowded. I have seen Erykah before and I think before was a little better in that she conversed more with the audience and did some things out the box like ballet. But this show was fantastic! I really loved the video show behind her! The only thing that bothered me aside from the crowd was the loud singing by the fans around me...I came to hear her. I was pleased that she changed up her songs at one point so folk coudn't sing!!!

  • Great Show!!!!

    by Stillamazed1 on 8/9/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 5 out of 5

What a combination! Erykah Badu, Chrisette Michele, Raphael Saadiq, Chuck Brown & Mike Epps! Awesome!!! Obviously I wasn't the only one that thought so as the place was packed! Would recommend though that Merriweather install two additional screens for those on the lawn. I sat on the lawn and oddly enough picked the wrong spot to sit as there was a column blocking the stage in front of me and couldn't see the screen as well as I was sitting caddy-corner to it. If there were two screens at the ends of the pavilion, it would have really been even more awesome! But hey I made the most of it!

  • "Erykah Badu" Always the Entertainer!

    by vze4s6xm on 8/9/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 5 out of 5

The show was great! Mike Epps was absolutely hilarious! Chrisette Michele; smooth, sultry, mouth watering to say the least! Chuck Brown had everybody in a complete frenzy! Raphael Saadiq had the ladies drooling. But of course Erykah Badu; awwwh maaan, she is such an entertainer!

  • Chuck Brown tore the roof off!

by NaturalMystic on 8/9/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 4 out of 5

I have been to many shows but this one was by far one of the best. I went by myself and had a blast. Very good line up, the only fault I had was that the main act , Erykay Badu, did not get to perform her entire set. That was NOT cool! My favorire act was Chuck Brown, fantastic! Had everybody on their feet. Overall the venue was great (except trying to get outta the parking lot), the line up was great and I had a great time.

  • Eryka Badu was robbed

    by nlcoombs2 on 8/9/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 2 out of 5

I enjoyed the show but I don't understand how the headliner have less time than the local artist. I felt she would have really rocked the show if she had more time. I was feeling her and then it was over. Chuck Brown was on the stage the longer than Raphael Sadiq and Ms. Badu. I still enjoyed the show I just felt robbed.

  • Badu, Chuck, Chrissette, and Saddiq

    by tluv2dantz on 8/9/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 5 out of 5

Simply Amazing! Badu was breathtaking. Chuck Baby got your heart pumping, Chrisette was stunning, and Saddiq got it on!

  • Very nice show

by lwilliams on 8/9/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 5 out of 5

I loved the show. Chuck Brown was wonderful. C. Michelle did her thing and E. Badu was Awesome. I can't wait to see her again.

  • Summer night with E Badu

by Kming on 8/9/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 4 out of 5

The show was great however I felt that Erykah should been allowed more stage time. Her performance was too short to be the headliner.

  • OK

    by Blah1 on 8/9/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 3 out of 5

Music was great, too many people. I understand everyone needs to make money, but if there were less people there then everyone would have actually been able to see the performers/screen and hear the music.

  • Not enough Erykah too much Chuck

    by enaid6 on 8/9/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 4 out of 5

Overall the concert was dope. My only gripe is that Erykah seemed to perform for the fraction of the time Chuck Brown performed. She didnt come on until 10:30 and everyone was exhausted by that time. In either case, she was dope as usually. Chrissette Michelle and R. Saadiq were also awesome.

  • Erykah Babu Gave more than my money's worth!!
