About

Erykah Badu, one of the world’s most revered singers, is widely credited as being the godmother of neo-soul. Badu’s blend of hip-hop swagger and smooth jazz draws inspiration from Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and Chaka Khan, and has earned her a total of four Grammy nominations. Pitchfork described the four-time Grammy Award-winning artist’s 1997 debut album Baduizm as an “existential anchor of the neo-soul movement.” The triple-platinum album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, and lead single “On & On” won the Grammy for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance at the 1998 Grammy Awards. Badu’s enduring legacy was cemented on the road, where she has sung to sold-out crowds on multiple worldwide tours. The R&B legend has released five critically-acclaimed studio albums, and has been featured on hit songs by Busta Rhymes, Macy Gray and Janelle Monáe.

  • A-Mazing Show!!!

by SassyMDgirl on 8/9/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 5 out of 5

The show was simply A-MAZING!!!! All of the acts were surprisingly GREAT!!!! I would have loved to have seen more from Ms. Badu but time constraints didn't permit it. It's cool though, I see her whenever she comes to town so I'm sure I'll get my fill really soon. I was pleasantly surprised by Raphael Sadiq and Chrisette Michelle really did her thing. Mike Epps, was crazy as ever and I fell even more in Love with him.

  • Less Everyone ELSE more of the HEADLINER

by whyt on 8/9/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 3 out of 5

Headliner did not get enough time and we could have used less of everyone else

  • Erykah

by TamaraO on 8/9/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 4 out of 5

The concert was nice. I think the headliner should be given more time. I will certainly go to see her again

  • Coulda been better

    by Vo0dooCh1ld on 8/9/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 2 out of 5

Traffic at Merriweather is a nightmare. Missed Foreign Exchange because we were stuck in traffic for an hour. Crissette was nice and a perfect opening act. Chuck surprised me and the dc crowd loved partying with him. I do think he ran too long. Saddiq spent too much time on his new stuff. I wanted to hear the hits, not some 60s retro stuff. Badu put on a good show but she seemed rushed and we didn't hear enough from her.

  • Great show!!

    by PrettyWings48 on 8/9/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 5 out of 5

Mike Epps was funny as hell!!! Erykah Badu was amazing to watch in action. She is truly gifted. I also enjoyed Chrisette Michele, my favorite artist. She's young, beautiful and talented! The whole show was entertaining, glad I went!!

  • SUMMER SPIRIT

by TAYLORMEbigmama on 8/9/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 5 out of 5

MUSIC THAT CAN MOVE YOU, AND MAKE YOU THINK ABOUT LIFE AND LOVE THE LYRICS OF THE SONGS WERE SO HEART FELT AND THE JOKES FROM MR. EPPS WAS ON GOING, I RATE THE EVENT AS A 10.

  • Big disappointment!!!

by Eyecandey on 8/9/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 2 out of 5

Chuck Brown turned the show out. I feel like I paid $106 to see him. Erikah Badu was so disappointing. I was hyped to see her and she let me down....singing songs I've never heard before. Everyone knows that she's known for her old songs, not anything new. And Mike Epps was supposed to host...he only gave a 15 minute joke fest and then you didn't see him anymore. Tiger was the host, again, I didn't pay to see Tiger.

  • E Badu is simply amazing

    by Sweetthing51 on 8/9/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first time seeing E Badu now I can not wait to see this young artist again. I will be the house whenever she is anywhere in the Washington DC Area.

  • an brief look at badu

by deeflyy on 8/9/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 4 out of 5

The festival was a good time. Because it was in DC, Chuck Brown dominated the performance, but Erykah looked fantastic and put on a great show. she worked 6 inch heels and patent leather pants like no other!! raphael saadiq, chrissette michelle and foreign exchange did their thing too!

  • Chuck Brown was Awesome

by Redds on 8/9/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 5 out of 5

Excellent show. Eryka Badu was good, but not on stage long enough.

  • Chuck Brown and Lil Benny had it crankin!

by RomeyRome on 8/9/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 4 out of 5

When Chuck came on he had the whole crowd rocking. Everybody was on their feet and it was most definitely the most energy of any performance.

  • Good, but could have been much better

by MelJ on 8/9/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 3 out of 5

To sum: Chrisette Michele- right on point Chuck Brown- WAY TOO MUCH and WAY TOO LONG!!! Raphel Saadiq- not enough of his Tony Toni Tone stuff Erykah Badu- great show, but she wasn't on long enough and didn't play enough of her hits

  • Bring Erykah Back!!!

    by MCW99 on 8/9/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 4 out of 5

Although we enjoyed the event we were extremely dissappointed that the main feature, Erykah Badu, did not have enought time to finish performing. The first group should've been eliminated to allow Erykah enough time to perform.

  • Forgettable

    by Dstew715 on 8/9/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 2 out of 5

I had more fun with the crowd. After Chuck Brown everything went down hill--Raphael Saadiq not my thing. I love the old Erykah Badu but the new Erykah is just not doing it for me. She has to do better with time management.

  • The show could have left off Eryka-she was just OK

by ClovesH on 8/9/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 3 out of 5

Eryka performs very average to be a heavy weight. This is the third time in the past year I've seen her live and was extremely disspointed. She leaves much to desire. She is D list with her performances lately. She is great singer and have great stage presence, but she just does not give you your money's worth. I really enjoyed Chuck Brown. Of course he could carry the show alone. Mike Epps was questionable as well. He was more of a stage character enjoying the performances instead of serving as MC. Tigger did a great job hosting the show between performances while Mike could not be found. Every now and again Mike popped up dancing on the stage. The others Chrisette Michelle and Raphael Saddiq were great. The only other problem besides Eryka's 20 minute performance compared to the others 45 mins to 1 hr. shows and Mike's disapperance act was the 2 and 1/2 hour line to enter the parking area. Good show over all.

  • Chris,Erykah,Raphel THE BEST

by QTatdashow on 8/9/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 5 out of 5

Everyone was exceptional !!! Top notch peformances. Went thru old songs and new.

  • Beautiful!!

    by KLowe1118 on 8/9/09Chene Park - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

I had a beautiful time at this performanc. It was my first time at Chene Park which is absolutely wondeful...the breeze, the water, the boats, the good music. Erykah was a awesome performer. She had me out of my seat dancing...and I'm not even one to dance. Plus her boots were killer!!
