About

Erykah Badu, one of the world’s most revered singers, is widely credited as being the godmother of neo-soul. Badu’s blend of hip-hop swagger and smooth jazz draws inspiration from Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and Chaka Khan, and has earned her a total of four Grammy nominations. Pitchfork described the four-time Grammy Award-winning artist’s 1997 debut album Baduizm as an “existential anchor of the neo-soul movement.” The triple-platinum album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, and lead single “On & On” won the Grammy for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance at the 1998 Grammy Awards. Badu’s enduring legacy was cemented on the road, where she has sung to sold-out crowds on multiple worldwide tours. The R&B legend has released five critically-acclaimed studio albums, and has been featured on hit songs by Busta Rhymes, Macy Gray and Janelle Monáe.

  • Summerfest JAM!!!

by Socialbutterfly on 8/10/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 5 out of 5

What a Summerfest to remember. It was like a family reunion. Chuck Brown & Lil Benny rock the show.....but Erykah Badu & Chrishette Michelle did their thang too. It was truly one of my favorite concerts of the summer...I can't wait for Ms. Badu to return to dc....she didn't have time to perform....

  • Erykah & Raphael Were Disappointing

by dareed on 8/10/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 2 out of 5

Chuck Brown turned the show out, as usual. He could teach these young acts a thing or two. Chrisette Michelle's set was too short. She was awesome as usual, but I would have preferred to see her perform longer. Raphael Sadiq was disappointing because he played a lot of songs that the audience was not familiar with. He should have opened the show up with a familiar, upbeat song, e.g., "It Feels Good" and then eased into some of his new material. His medley of Tony, Toni, Tone songs was too brief. Erykah Badu sang quite a few songs that the audience has never heard before. Maybe they were from her last CD, which was terrible. Her show seemed disjointed and disorganized. She did not perform a lot of her hit songs, e.g. Tyrone. Considering that Erykah was the headliner, I thought that her performance was the most disappointing. I don't think that I would ever pay to hear her sing at a large festival again. Maybe she gives a better performance at a more intimate venue.

  • Disappointed

    by JTHOMPJR1 on 8/10/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 3 out of 5

Overall the performers were pretty good but I was a little disappointed because Chuck Brown stayed on stage for over an hour but the headliner, Erika Bhadu did not stay on for a full hour. Also, I know that it was a festival but it was a little long between the intermissions, etc.

  • Really nice but.....

by Chocolitmomma on 8/10/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 3 out of 5

This was a great event but geez, I never knew the Merriweather to sell THAT many lawn tickets!! I've been to a concert there with lawn seats before but never experience a crowd THAT massive. The acts and line up all went off without a hitch, but the one person everyone was there to see had the least amoutn of time on the stage....what?! Just wish my personal circumstances would have worked out better so I could have gotten there when I'd planned. It was ok overall....I'd go again.

  • Off the Hook

  • Erykah Badu--Wonderful!!!

    by Sweetness1 on 8/10/09Chene Park - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

She was wonderful and gave us our moneys worth. She sang all of my favorites. I just hate when she starts a song and she says "I'm not ready to do that" and she never goes back to that song.

  • Erykah Badu is AMAZING!

by Emprezz3000 on 8/10/09House of Blues Atlantic City - Atlantic CityRating: 5 out of 5

I loved every moment she was on the stage. A blessing to us all. Always speaks the truth. What more could you ask for.

  • Perfect in every way!!

by jnique on 8/10/09House of Blues Atlantic City - Atlantic CityRating: 5 out of 5

This was the best show of the year. I had seen her a couple of months ago in DC and this show was 10 times better if that is even possible because Erykah always gives a good show. She hit some throw backs and even a Michael Jackson song which we could have stood to hear more of. She looked amazing and I love the outfit. I will surly try to catch up with her again.

  • Merriweather was packed!!

    by Baker007 on 8/10/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 5 out of 5

The concert was incredible! Chuck Brown, the godfather of go-go blew up the spot for the Wash DC/Baltimore Metro area. Badu was stunning as always. Chrisette MIchelle is an upcoming star and MIke Epps kept the mood light all evening. I really enjoyed myself and will be back next year. Baker

  • Erykah is loved in Detroit!

by NuNuFish on 8/10/09Chene Park - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

The Erykah Badu concert was spectacular! Erykah always brings a different flavor to old favorites and shows her love for other artists and their work who paved the way to her success. Her fan base is amazing! Being an african-american, I would have figured that people of other cultures would have a difficult time understanding the imagery in her music and the references to our culture. I also thought the older generation would have difficulty given her love of hip-hop. That crowd exceeded any boundaries I set for Erykah! The crowd appeared to range from age 20 to people in their 60's! College grads (had a conversation with a white school teacher) to hustlers, gay and straight (sat next to a nice guy who turned out ot be a woman) black, white, and middle-eastern represented. I am a pisces like Erykah. Attending her concerts for me are a spiritual release. I come to go to church! It takes God to give someone the strength to be who they are on that level. Erykah reminds us to "Do you."

  • Summer Spirit Festival Featuring Erykah Badu

by Pineapples on 8/10/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 4 out of 5

Wow! The show was off the hook. Chuck baby don't give a....... Except on performance....Erykah Badu! What the heck was she thinking. She let eveyone else out perform her. Other than that... I had a ball, a hang over and can't wait to do it again. When is Anita coming town?

  • Hot, Hot, & Hotter!!

    by Scootie1 on 8/10/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 5 out of 5

This was the concert of the summer! Although the weather temp was scorching, there was no other place I wanted to be by that evening! The crowd was there to have a great time. We partied w/Chuck Brown, laughed w/Mike Epps, reminisced w/Raphael Siddique, & waited for Erykah Badu! Wecome to Chrisette Michelle! She'll be around a for a long time!! Awesome, awesome, awesome!! Kudos, Merriweather Post Pavillion!!!

  • Chuck Brown and his band was awesome!!!!

by gwenrob on 8/10/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 5 out of 5

All of the performers were great, but Chuck Brown's performance was the best! Chuck and his group "brought it" for sure! Mike Epps was very funny!

  • Chuck Brown turned it out

  • Good music is alive and well

by alanagirl on 8/10/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 5 out of 5

Every artist did their thing. The festival atmosphere, to peruse the vendors and make purchases showcased eclectic items for sale which I purchased. I enjoyed it to the utmost.

  • Chuck Brown turn it out

    by tly67 on 8/10/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 4 out of 5

Chuck Brown Turned it out Lil Benny did the damn thing. Mike Epps is funny crazy fool who all didn't make it miss a really nice concert. Eryka Badu brought it home.

  • Chucky baby was off the chain

    by bubbles7 on 8/10/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 3 out of 5

The high point of the show was Chuck Brown. It is amazing the stamina that he has. I was on my feet the whole time. Mike eps was a trip as usual . Chrisette Miichelle I enjoyed along with Raphael and Fertile Ground. Now as far as Erykah Badu was concerned, I feel that she should not have been the headliner of that show.

  • Summer Fest

    by SpecK1 on 8/10/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 3 out of 5

Personally, you could have removed Foreign Exchange and Rapheal

  • Erykah

    by tfclayton27 on 8/10/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaRating: 4 out of 5

I loved the this concert my only complaint is that I wished Erykah would have performed longer, otherwise I was very pleased. I really liked Foreign Exchange I'll have to look them up to see when and where they'll perform next.
