About

ELF The Musical is the hilarious tale of Buddy, a young orphan child who mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported back to the North Pole. Unaware that he is actually human, Buddy’s enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father, discover his true identity, and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas. This modern day Christmas classic is sure to make everyone embrace their inner ELF.

The New York Times says that ELF is “SPLASHY, PEPPY, SUGAR-SPRINKLED HOLIDAY ENTERTAINMENT!” USA Today calls ELF, “ENDEARINGLY GOOFY!” Variety proclaims, “ELF is happy enough for families, savvy enough for city kids and plenty smart for adults!”

Based on the beloved 2003 New Line Cinema hit, ELF features songs by Tony Award nominees Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin (The Wedding Singer), with a book by Tony Award winners Thomas Meehan (Annie, The Producers, Hairspray) and Bob Martin (The Drowsy Chaperone).

    Disappointed

by doctoryorki on 11/20/13Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

The timing and enthusiasm seemed to be off. Except for the lead who seemed to be trying very hard, several other cast seemed lackluster. The score was not exciting or memorable. I usually am humming the tunes for days after I see a musical.

Entertaining from first song until the final bow! Even my 8 year old granddaughter loved every minute of the show. Total entertainment for the whole family.

Elf the Musical - Cute and Funny

by IHeartApex on 11/19/13Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

The show was very cute and funny. However, the comedic delivery was a bit lacking. I suppose that is because the actors are theatre folks, not comedians. Overall, well done and entertaining. I would go see it again if the tickets were $25 (including taxes and fees). Otherwise, for the amount of money I spent, I'd skip this one.

Wonderful musical with a talented cast. The voices and dancing are a site to see, as well as the costumes. I was suprised the musical was so much like the movie.

    Elf the Musical was engaging

by Pinnocchio on 11/19/13Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

GrandMa, Mom, 9 year old Grandson and a 9 year old friend attended the show at the Duke Energy Center in Raleigh, NC. We sat in the "T" section 2nd row which was a side view but really good seats. All of us enjoyed this performance and thought it a great way to kick off the holiday season. The boys were clapping and yelling BRAVO after each musical number and they were out of their seats at the finale dancing with Buddy and the cast. Lots of local humor for adults and children scattered throughout. All and all a great evening of entertainment. Thanks for a terrific time! When all the cast sends the spirit of Christmas toward getting Santa airborne again. I think you missed an opportunity to get the audience involved here. I kept wanting to yell out "I believe in Christmas."

    Elf

by ArtieA on 11/19/13Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

Performance was entertaining, hard not to compare lead actor to Will Ferrell though. Many 'iconic' moments from the film captured, but musical still had its own unique story to tell. Music was good, but not huge recall on the score, the next day. Great family night out.

Enjoyable way to start the Christmas season!

by RMCas on 11/18/13Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

My husband and I (we are late 20s) went to see Elf for a date night and had a great time. We really enjoyed the show, but the second half was definitely better than the first. We are huge fans of the movie, but the first half tried a little too hard to be just like the movie which made it fall a little short. The original songs were much better in the second half when the play took a few different turns than the movie and came together much better. Our one major issue was that Buddy came across less child-like and more just kind of annoying in the show than in the movie. Overall though, we are pleased with the experience!

    Loved Elf!

by JMomof2tots on 11/8/13Peoria Civic Center - Peoria

Elf the Musical was close to the movie (which we love) with additional current political and popular references. Laughed out loud several times. Certainly got us in a great mood and looking forward to Christmas. Was glad that we made it a date night and did not bring the kids as there was some light adult humor that we would not want to try to explain to our little ones.

    Elf was Christmas magic

by Trishajo on 11/21/12Fox Cities PAC - Appleton

Our group of 4 was an attendance of age 5 to 72. The story line was easy to follow but we all agree we could have done without the swearing - it was not necessary. The voices and harmony were wonderful (we are muscians ourselves so we are critical here). I personally was disappointed they did not use the musical number "Baby it's Cold Outside" from the movie considering the strength it had in the movie. We all loved the skating in the park scene....amazing that they could "ice skate" on stage....you just have to see it.

    Our favorite Christmas show!

by Anonymous on 11/20/12Fox Cities PAC - Appleton

Our favorite Christmas movie is Elf. We enjoyed this play which included a lot of scenes from the movie but also some fun additions / changes! The scenery was awesome, and the actors were phoenominal ( with beautiful singing voices). We had lots of laughs!
