DRIVE-BY TRUCKERS IN CONCERT:

Southern rockers Drive-By Truckers have a penchant for tradition, recording their studio albums in analog and insisting on releasing their records on vinyl. The band's traditional approach extends to their beloved live concerts, where craft and musicianship take center stage and marathon sets are the norm. The Truckers may orbit just under the mainstream's radar, but their devoted followers wouldn't have it any other way — as one of the best-kept secrets in music, the band has fans eagerly awaiting their intimate 2014 tour dates in support of English Oceans, their tenth studio album.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed in Athens, Georgia, in 1996, the Drive-By Truckers' path to success was slow but steady, aided by a grassroots online presence and their constant touring. Following the release of their first two albums Gangstabilly (1998) and Pizza Deliverance (1999), the band embarked on their first US tour, further added to their reputation as consummate performers with electrifying live sets. 2005's The Dirty South marked the band's first appearance on the Billboard 200, which the band has steadily climbed with each subsequent release. Following the release of their tenth studio album English Oceans in 2014, the band will hit the road for another rollicking tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Once again DBT do not disappoint. This is a band that puts out excellent albums, and a rare occurrence where they are even better live."

"I have seen DBT 30+ times and they always make me look around for the next show! I love their energy and how they play off each other! I have never been to a bad show and this one was no different."

"As always, DBT kept me smiling and singing. Hood and Cooley took turns telling us our favorite yarns, up close and personal."

  • Vintage DBT

by McLeansvillain on 9/18/15Cone Denim Entertainment Center - GREENSBORORating: 4 out of 5

There's a reason why these guys are known for their live shows. The only negative was the absence of "Ronny and Neil" and, more shockingly, "Zip City" from the setlist. DBT not playing "Zip City" is like Springsteen not playing "Born to Run." Only other issue was it took the guy on the soundboard about half the show before he finally got Mike Cooley's mic mixed loud enough so that you could hear him.

  • DBT!

by Smcluer on 7/27/15The Norva - NorfolkRating: 5 out of 5

Always a good show with Patterson & Cooley banging out the tunes. Drive By Truckers sound good where ever they put on a show.

  • DBT Was Great!!!!!!!

    by Rayford64 on 7/27/15The Norva - NorfolkRating: 5 out of 5

DBT and the venue were great in regards to the music and show. Drink prices were astronomical. Small cup mostly ice. Bottom of the barrel liquor was 8 and top shelf 14.

  • Good Venue, Bad Sound

by Anonymous on 7/27/15The Norva - NorfolkRating: 3 out of 5

I am not a fan of the Truckers, but don't hate them either. I went to this event with a friend. I found the venue to be not overly crowded and the temperature was kept down low even though it was a sweltering night outside. I always hate when you are sandwiched in front to back and the place is a sweat shop. The Norva was not that at all on this particular night. The sound was abysmal. The crash cymbals and the rhythm guitar were too high. The vocals were too low and everything was getting lost in the middle. The end result was what felt like a wave of sound coming at you at all times. There were no highs and lows, nor was there anything distinct, just noise. Everyone that we went with, about 5 of us, said the same thing. The sound was way off. It's a shame.

  • Rock on, Truckers!

by ESVAlivemusiclover on 7/27/15The Norva - NorfolkRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first DBT concert, I met a couple for whom this one made 42 total! And I can sure understand why! The band was just awesome, they are truly rockers. I will definitely watch for their next show somewhere nearby, and would highly recommend becoming familiar with the songs beforehand, because the lyrics are so good it really adds to the experience to know the words to the songs. Every band member put a ton of energy into the show, must give extra credit to the awesome drummer! My advice: buy some DBT CDs, get to know them if you don't already, and look for the next concert, you won't be disappointed!

  • Acoustic DBT not to be missed.

by Jefffrompinole on 4/28/15Uptown Theatre Napa - NapaRating: 5 out of 5

I've only seen the truckers one other time and it was electric in more than one use of the word. I wanted more of that, so I was a little disappointed when I found out the tickets I had bought was to be for an acoustic show. Man was I ever wrong! This two set show was absolutely amazing!, Even better then the electric show I had seen. All of these musicians are so talented and played so tightly together. The sound was so clean. It sounded like a studio recording session. And these guys have such amazing voices and such killer songwriting. I also like how they told stories in between songs about how the songs came to be, it added a personal touch. The show would make for a great unplugged video. f you ever get a chance to see them acoustic don't miss the opportunity! This was a seatedevent, so I was worried that the boys didn't feel like they were getting their respect they were due. But at the end of the show everyone went nuts!

  • Drive by truckers a disappointment

by Napabob on 4/28/15Uptown Theatre Napa - NapaRating: 1 out of 5

If you like to know the exceedingly boring details of how a song came about then this group is for you. I guess they don't get it that "you had to be there". The original songs were hard to differentiate from each other (except for the lead-in story). The only song that the crowd seemed to "get into" was elton's Benny and the Jet.......otherwise, very quiet. The theater was surprisingly empty at show time and the 30 minute delay to the start was evidently in hope of more walk ups. The fundamental music concept is questionable.....mixing was off as a piercing organ drowned out everything else, guitar leads were lost in the noise, the bass went in and out. Both vocalists had interesting voices, too bad they are wasted on poor song writing.

  • Wish they would have played some hits

    by 1concertAmonth on 3/22/15State Theatre, Kalamazoo - KalamazooRating: 3 out of 5

They played really well and the crowd was both enthusiastic and full of energy, but I only recognized a couple of songs. I have 5 of the their albums. Nothing from The Big To Do, really? Maybe that is why the small theatre was only 1/2 full. The crowd was into it though. I guess I am just a casual fan of theirs.

  • Kalamazoo 03/19/2015

by Buistieboy on 3/22/15State Theatre, Kalamazoo - KalamazooRating: 5 out of 5

Any performance at the State Theater is a good time. DBT is a gang of very talented musicians, and possibly some of the most prolific songwriters of this era. A blend that is sure to please. I don't know anything about Eric Church, but his crowds are experiencing DBT as the opening act as they ramble about performing solo shows in between their arena appearances. DBT is known to glorify (rightfully so) some of their southern rock heros, tonight they came on stage and mentioned all of our Michigan rock icons, tearing into a spectacular and well received version of Alice Cooper's "18" to start the show. Fresh and fun. Good time.

This was a great show. The venue should be a success. The music made for a wonderful evening!

  • 3 Nights at the Fillmore

    by Humboldt25 on 11/24/14Fillmore - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

It was as good as a rock show gets. Each night it gained a little more momentum until they finally had to leave the stage at 1:55 Sunday morning because of the 2 am curfew. They'd have kept playing if they'd been allowed. That's the attitude of this band and that is why they are the best live show today (and have been for about the last 12 years).

  • Concert of a lifetime

    by Thorne4303 on 11/23/14The Fillmore - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen many concerts over the years and this one undoubtedly one of the best. Every member of the band is so talented and the amount of energy they had was unbelievable!

  • A great time!!

by ForgotmyPlaid on 11/5/14Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 4 out of 5

A great band and a fun crowd. Our original seats were not the greatest and I moved up to the front where there was a whole section of empty seats until a very bitter and angry older woman (usher) gave me the boot. We then moved behind our assigned seats to another emptyish section. While dancing and enjoying the show from there, a gentleman and his wife came up to us and gave us tickets to seats up in the section (one row closer) that I had just been sitting in. The fans around us were awesome and a great time was had by all!!!

  • Great night & awesome venue

    by Boo29ss on 11/4/14The Fillmore Charlotte - CharlotteRating: 4 out of 5

DBT delivered a great show as expected. Perfect venue for those guys to play and they didn't disappoint. Also really enjoyed Houndmouth, who opened up the show. If you've never been to the Filmore Charlotte, you got to check it out. Head next door to the VBGB for some great beer and grub before, then enjoy a great show.

  • Rocked my face off

by JeffRoyal on 11/4/14The Fillmore Charlotte - CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

I wasn't super familiar with their catalogue in that I am recent fan to this band and style of music, but that didn't matter one bit...it was awesome. They rocked my face off. The venue-- the Fillmore Charlotte is an awesome venue.

by DTsDownUnder on 11/2/14Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

I've seen the Truckers numerous times since the late 90's. This was the greatest show of all for me. From the set list, to the amazing atmosphere of the Ryman Auditorium, everything was perfect.

  • DBT rocked the Ryman

  • Houndmouth...Awesome

by jhodges on 11/2/14Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 2 out of 5

Houndmouth was incredible...3rd time seeing them and even better. Left 4th song into Drive by Truckers, horribly boring. We left along with about 20 others.
