DRIVE-BY TRUCKERS IN CONCERT:
Southern rockers Drive-By Truckers have a penchant for tradition, recording their studio albums in analog and insisting on releasing their records on vinyl. The band's traditional approach extends to their beloved live concerts, where craft and musicianship take center stage and marathon sets are the norm. The Truckers may orbit just under the mainstream's radar, but their devoted followers wouldn't have it any other way — as one of the best-kept secrets in music, the band has fans eagerly awaiting their intimate 2014 tour dates in support of English Oceans, their tenth studio album.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Formed in Athens, Georgia, in 1996, the Drive-By Truckers' path to success was slow but steady, aided by a grassroots online presence and their constant touring. Following the release of their first two albums Gangstabilly (1998) and Pizza Deliverance (1999), the band embarked on their first US tour, further added to their reputation as consummate performers with electrifying live sets. 2005's The Dirty South marked the band's first appearance on the Billboard 200, which the band has steadily climbed with each subsequent release. Following the release of their tenth studio album English Oceans in 2014, the band will hit the road for another rollicking tour.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"Once again DBT do not disappoint. This is a band that puts out excellent albums, and a rare occurrence where they are even better live."
"I have seen DBT 30+ times and they always make me look around for the next show! I love their energy and how they play off each other! I have never been to a bad show and this one was no different."
"As always, DBT kept me smiling and singing. Hood and Cooley took turns telling us our favorite yarns, up close and personal."
Great show with impressive opening act - bravo! Truckers were very tight and the crowd stood for basically the whole show.
I love this band and have seen them before, but this concert was very disappointing. First of all the sound was terrible and for that I blame the venue (Electric Factory). It echoed all over the place where it was impossible at times to tell which song they were playing. I guess it got to them because the energy of past shows just wasn't there. They ended the show with Grand Canyon off the new album. It's a great song, but very mellow. Not what you'd expect a Rock and Roll band to finish with. Bummer
I've been seeing DBTs for 12 years now. I miss the days of the 3 hour+ shows, but hey, we're all getting old...
The concert was great. I wish the band stretched their songs out instrumentally.
DBT never disappoints. The opening act, St. Paul and the Broken Bones, were great, as well!
Both acts were just the best, great music, impressive sound system, memorable stage presence!!!
Last time I saw them in Montclair, NJ they were great, this time not so great. Set list started off slow and ended even slower and the sound mix seemed to be poor, as if the guitars weren't turned up enough, maybe the soundman feel asleep. They have so many great songs, should save the slower numbers for sometime in the middle of the set. Wouldn't stop me from seeing them again as I know they are usually unbelievable and I love all their albums.
What can you say. America's best band got to play a big historic place with crystal clear sound. Seeing the Truckers in a seated venue always takes the experience down a notch, and the ludicrous 11 p.m. curfew cut the length of the normal set. But hey that's not on the band, so no stars are deducted. They put it all out there. Note to the unionized theatre workers who I was told the curfew is for, it's New York friggin City!!! The city that is supposed to never sleep!! Don't get in the business if you don't want to serve rock show fans. The band that plays "Play it All Night Long" should be allowed to.
Killer songs, great musicianship and dynamic performances. Jay Gonzalez (keyboards, guitar, vocals), Matt Patton (bass) have integrated seamlessly since I saw them in May 2013 and now the band is as solid as Wilco, or dare I say it, The Band. Stellar.
One of the best Truckers shows I've seen, fans behaved so you could really enjoy the band...
Simply put, they write great songs. Included five tracks off their latest album, English Oceans. Live-Nation did a simulcast on Yahoo, so DBT didn't take the stage until 10pm. If not for this, I think they would have started earlier and played a little longer. Hard-working rock band that never disappoints. I'd go see them any night of the week anywhere in DFW area.
Both bands were great! And such nice weather with a breeze from the ocean.
Both bands gave outstanding efforts, and really seemed to enjoy themselves. The sound system was horrendous. It was capable of producing lots of volume. but no clarity. Mike Cooley's vocal especially got trampled in the mix. It was surprising in this day and age to have such a poor system in such a neat venue. The sound really made the show a 2 stars event. The band, they played their asses off. The new additions to the band are excellent, really added a lot. I will go see them again, and recommend them to all, but skip the Hampton Beach Ballroom.
As always a great show. Craig Finn's stage presence is second to none. He's a great story teller, and they completely rocked. The DBT's tore it pumas well. great storytellers as well.
Both bands played over an hour each. Stone pony Summerstage was a great place to see a outdoor concert. lots of space to dance around in.
there is no better band in the land, than drive by truckers. they have great songs, charisma, real musicians who jam fantastically, with a perfect driving interconnection in the band..... i saw them a few months ago at terminal 5, that show was great, this one was even better. i love their 3 guitar style, and for the encore , where they were joined by their opener "the hold steady" the number of guitars was up to 5.... it was amazing, a must see band, which i look forward to seeing again, as soon as i can
maybe one of my favorite shows ever . . . & I've seen lots of show! If you like rock n roll guitars, you would've loved this one! Both bands rocked their own sets & then got together for a great finale - Craig Finn & Patterson Hood are twin brothers of different mothers, I think
Show sucked. I though Hold Steady were the head liners, but they weren't. They played so early that I couldn't get there in time to see them. Tough scheduling on Friday for working people to get there on time. I know it's my fault but it still sucked.
Great show! Great bands! Great venue! Haven't been to the Pony in years. Can't wait for the next show!
They always put on an awesome show. They truly look like they are having a great time the whole time they are playing. Great mix of classic and new released songs.
