DRIVE-BY TRUCKERS IN CONCERT:
Southern rockers Drive-By Truckers have a penchant for tradition, recording their studio albums in analog and insisting on releasing their records on vinyl. The band's traditional approach extends to their beloved live concerts, where craft and musicianship take center stage and marathon sets are the norm. The Truckers may orbit just under the mainstream's radar, but their devoted followers wouldn't have it any other way — as one of the best-kept secrets in music, the band has fans eagerly awaiting their intimate 2014 tour dates in support of English Oceans, their tenth studio album.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Formed in Athens, Georgia, in 1996, the Drive-By Truckers' path to success was slow but steady, aided by a grassroots online presence and their constant touring. Following the release of their first two albums Gangstabilly (1998) and Pizza Deliverance (1999), the band embarked on their first US tour, further added to their reputation as consummate performers with electrifying live sets. 2005's The Dirty South marked the band's first appearance on the Billboard 200, which the band has steadily climbed with each subsequent release. Following the release of their tenth studio album English Oceans in 2014, the band will hit the road for another rollicking tour.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"Once again DBT do not disappoint. This is a band that puts out excellent albums, and a rare occurrence where they are even better live."
"I have seen DBT 30+ times and they always make me look around for the next show! I love their energy and how they play off each other! I have never been to a bad show and this one was no different."
"As always, DBT kept me smiling and singing. Hood and Cooley took turns telling us our favorite yarns, up close and personal."
Drive-By Truckers are awesome!! They put on a great show! I really love this band.
The Drive-By Truckers are one of the best live bands out there. This tour was intended to celebrate the 23rd (??) anniversary of their breakthrough album, Southern Rock Opera, and the band didn't disappoint in Louisville--doing ALL songs from that album, along with a number of choice other tracks. In all, they did 27 songs, clocking in at roughly 2 hours, 20 minutes. Other thoughts: Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley are the Lennon/McCartney, Jagger/Richards, et al, of Generation X, and are criminally underrated.
Band sounded amazing as it always does. This I'm my favorite venue to see them in. Getting into venue is always easy and organized. My only suggestion is that they return to standing GA. Some bands just make it hard to sit through a show, this is one of them!! Even the band mentioned how they missed their biggest fans in the pit.
The band still rocks! Loved the concert and they played 2.5 hours without a break! Only issue. - we specifically picked aisle seats in row 3 (not cheap) and got to the venue to be told they added 2 seats on each end … small inconvenience for a great show, but we still loved it
Great Show On Memory Lane. Loved This Album & They Played It So GOOOOOD !!!
Seen them before and loved it but this show was terrible. Hood needed to quit talking
Overall the show was good, I really enjoyed it. Band was tight and bright. I was rather surprised they did not play "Zip City"or come back for at least 1 encore!
The truckers are just badass! The presentation and sound was outstanding!
Everything was exceptionally great!! The band was fantastic and delivered!! Love the venue and ready for another killer show!!!
The vibe, the crowd, and the sound were all at the highest level.
Great concert. I have wanted to see the Drive By Truckers for years and the Aztec was the perfect venue. Intimate, comfortable and great sound system. The DBT did not fail as they played a great selection of songs. All in all a great experience. I would definitely recommend the Aztec for seeing any performer.
Always a blast. And the Overton Park Shell is such a gem for live music. Closest you will ever get to such a great band.
American Aquarium and DBT were great. Very energetic and great set lists but you couldn’t hear the vocals. You could hear the individual instruments but voices were washed out. It’s disappointing because lyrics are an important aspect of both of these bands. Loved the venue but they need to work on the mixing.
This was my second time seeing Drive-By Truckers live, and my first time at Charleston Music Hall. I was visiting from Seattle. What a great venue! We had seats in the balcony and they were great. The band played for 2+ hours. Love this band, loved this venue. Definitely check this place out if you are visiting Charleston. And check out Drive-By Truckers, wherever you are!
DBT rocked Chattanooga. Band always puts on a great show.
Both the opener, American Aquarium, and the Drive-By Truckers were on point, on fire and highly entertaining.
Either these guys have lost their hearing, or their sound guy sucks. All one could hear is a 100+db blare of noise. I could see em singing, but all i could hear was bass and over-amped guitar. This was a small venue. They had it cranked like a stadium gig
Such an amazing trip with my son for his 16th birthday! The truckers were the 1st concert that my son saw at age 3.. and come full circle to seeing them again for his 16th birthday. They put on an incredibly magical show, as always! Thanks to Walker theater for hosting this event
Great to have them play the old stuff. Wasn’t that impressed with the new.
DBT played their heart out! Been listening to their music for 20+ years. Got to finally see them for the first time at this show at The Paramount in Long Island, NY. They were tight and sounded good enough to leave everyone with a smile. Thank you DBT for a charged up show & having American Aquarium join you. Think they got a bright future ahead of them.
