DRIVE-BY TRUCKERS IN CONCERT:

Southern rockers Drive-By Truckers have a penchant for tradition, recording their studio albums in analog and insisting on releasing their records on vinyl. The band's traditional approach extends to their beloved live concerts, where craft and musicianship take center stage and marathon sets are the norm. The Truckers may orbit just under the mainstream's radar, but their devoted followers wouldn't have it any other way — as one of the best-kept secrets in music, the band has fans eagerly awaiting their intimate 2014 tour dates in support of English Oceans, their tenth studio album.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed in Athens, Georgia, in 1996, the Drive-By Truckers' path to success was slow but steady, aided by a grassroots online presence and their constant touring. Following the release of their first two albums Gangstabilly (1998) and Pizza Deliverance (1999), the band embarked on their first US tour, further added to their reputation as consummate performers with electrifying live sets. 2005's The Dirty South marked the band's first appearance on the Billboard 200, which the band has steadily climbed with each subsequent release. Following the release of their tenth studio album English Oceans in 2014, the band will hit the road for another rollicking tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Once again DBT do not disappoint. This is a band that puts out excellent albums, and a rare occurrence where they are even better live."

"I have seen DBT 30+ times and they always make me look around for the next show! I love their energy and how they play off each other! I have never been to a bad show and this one was no different."

"As always, DBT kept me smiling and singing. Hood and Cooley took turns telling us our favorite yarns, up close and personal."

  • DBT was loud

by JEJwho on 4/4/10House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 3 out of 5

This band is good but volume was to loud and hard to hear the words. The food in the restaurant was good but service way to slow and i missed the openning act. Great value for the money but why so loud.

  • Great Show!

The show was fabulous! DBT played for about 2 1/2 hours!

  • the most still concert ever.

by yadabsyada on 4/4/10The Electric Factory - PhiladelphiaRating: 1 out of 5

I showed up at the electric factory last night in a scenario I seldom experience. I had never heard any music by the DBT's prior to last nights performance. So with no preconceived notions, and as a live music fan with a large range of bands and musicians in my collections, and glowing endorsement from a DBT fan, I was optimistic to say the least. What a terrible performance!!! The sound mix was off. The reverberation and distortion added to not being able to make out a single lyric. At first I thought is was just a soundboard/mic mix issue, that they would resolve in the first song or two, as the previous two bands and dozens of other shows at EF, always sound great. It only to a few songs into the first set for my enthusiasm to wane, as I realized that I couldn't blame the mic, the mix, the amps, or the acoustics. The DBT's simply have a cult following of people who like shifty music. I checked out some of the lyrics after the show, cause I couldn't hear them at the show. Pretty lame! All of there songs sound like echo's of the songs that they poached the baseline, or melody, or rhythm from. To name a few, I heard zepplin, widespread, chris cornell, the who, and social distortion songs being poached by the DBT's last night with minor tweaks here and there, and un-intelligable lyrics being whined or shouted over them. There were about 4 people dancing the entire night. This band is completely full of itself, leaving the stage for 18min while a slim number of diehards cheered for an oncore. Then, the anticlimactic 6 song incorrect began. Each song was slowe and more depressing and energy draining than the one before it. Over the course of the 30 minute oncor, I watch the crowd thin, and motionless people begin to get tired and antsy. So much for leaving them wanting more! Instead DBT's pulled the strangest show ending I have ever seen, and i have seen thousands and thousands of live shows. During the under paced, please put me out of my misery closer, the band members began to get up and leave the stage during the song one by one, until only the drummer was left bang quarter notes out on a large marching band base drum, with this awful reverberant in the background that sounded like a fire alarm, until everything finally went dark and quite. Strangest ending to the lowest energy, poorest sounding, worst concert I have ever attended. If this were a movie, I would have walked out. If I had no regard for my friends feels, I would have left. Since I am a nice guy I sat, motionless like everyone else, and suffered through the entirely to long, and painful performance.

  • dbt set was awesome!!!!!!

    by blackfin29 on 4/4/10The Electric Factory - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

show was a complete success. even though i was not a fan of either of the first two acts(langehorne slim and lucero) i must say they were professional and well rehearsed.their sound was a little to blended with no one standing out.when the truckers took the stage you could just tell the night would turn out to be good.the band has a great collection of songs and never play the same set at any two shows. they were extremly tight and were having a lot of fun.with a mix of old and new songs, they kept the tempo up and the fans on their feet.i have seen them twice now and have not been dissappointed.be ready for a long night as they play set set of about 25 songs.GO SEE THEM!!!!!!!

by 2857 on 4/3/10House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I went to see drive By and Langhorn Slim and ended up enjoying Lucero the most. The addition of the horn section has really added depth and passion to their music. I adore Drive by but I wish they played rocked a little less and went more country. I so wanted to hear Late For Church, Wife Beater, Bulldozers and Dirt . . . great show.

they really sucked. i went with my sister how is a huge fan thinking i would enjoy it as we both like many bands like patti smith, pj harvey, ect. bdt offered nothing and audiences actions proved me right- they were like non-moving zombies during the entire show. go back to south...

DBT put on an amazing rock show! (as always) Webster hall is a nice room with good sound but way too crowded.

  • DBT is the best band in America

    by MDH4 on 4/2/10Webster Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

I've been to two DBT shows and one Patterson Hood show. All were great, but this was easily the best. Hood, Cooley, and Shonna Tucker all take turns with their songs. All are great in different ways. Hood brings most of the energy, Cooley brings some of the most interesting biopic lyrics, and Tucker provides a (relatively) new change of pace (but more than holds her own). Great show, great venue. Lots of real housewives and blazers in the audience, but everyone had a good time.

  • the only to do- rock with DBT

by TBONZO on 4/2/10Webster Hall - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

A BEAUTIFUL SPRING EVENING WAS CAPPED OFF BY ONE OF THE MOST UNDERRATED ROCK BANDS IN THE BUSINESS, THE DRIVE BY TRUCKERS. WITH A NEW CD "THE BIG TO DO" THE BAND TOOK THE MUSIC TO A HIGHER LEVEL, MUCH LIKE WHEN THE CIRCUS COMES TO TOWN IN THE SPRING. MY PERSONAL HIGHS ON THIS CD COMES FROM THE DREAMY AND SOMETIMES SCARY PEDAL STEEL GUITAR AND GUITAR PLAYING FROM JOHN NEFF, WHO PUT THE ROCK AND ROLL GREASE IN THE FRYING PAN. FROM THE OPENER OF THE 4TH NIGHT OF MY DRINKING TO THE CLOSER OF JIM CAROLS PEOPLE WHO DIED, THIS SHOW ROCKED!

  • Truckers were smokin'

by SonBlood on 4/2/10Webster Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

As usual, after seeing at least 10 Truckers shows--they never disappoint. The sound was crisp and powerful-the light show was tasteful , the band was sweaty, and on the money. With a roller coaster ride of new and old tunes, they seem to get tighter as the community jug of Jack is passed around. Webster hall is a great venue to see any band --it is my fave place for the Truckers. 1st time I have been to a sold out DBT show. Awesome!

  • Well Executed but Weak Setlist

by Lilskeezer on 3/15/10Variety Playhouse - AtlantaRating: 3 out of 5

I like to think I'm a big Truckers fan, so I was surprised with the numbers of songs I wasn't familiar with during the show on Saturday. The older song selection was odd, and nearing the end of the show I was getting desperate to hear one of those good ol' sing-along songs. I can appreciate some of the newer material and was glad to hear "Ghost to Most" and "Birthday Boy". When they broke out "Hell No, I Ain't Happy" I was screaming the lyrics at the top of my lungs, The "Rockin' in the Free World" cover was great, but even with that surprise cover wasn't enough to save this show in my opinion. This is the third time I've seen DBT and I hate to say this was my least favorite show. I saw them at Variety Playhouse soon before Isbell left and that show completely blew this one away. I hope the next time they come around they play more songs off of "Decoration Day" and "Dirty South." Either way, they're DBT and I will definitely catch them the next time they are in town!

  • DBT still pleases the crowd

by FieldM on 3/15/10Variety Playhouse - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

Good show. They played some from BTCD, a lot of oldies and some new songs.

  • DBT delivers as always

by RadioFreeRio on 3/15/10Variety Playhouse - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

Yet another quality show full of guitar work and energy. The crowd was standing and hanging on every note before the band even took the stage. You've got to love the Truckers playing a small-ish venue like the Variety Playhouse. As usual, the band played a long set mixed with both old and new favorites. The encore by itself spanned six songs. Great show.

  • GREAT!!
