About

DR SEUSS' HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS! THE MUSICAL is the record-setting Broadway sensation which features the hit songs "You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch" and "Welcome Christmas" from the original animated television special. Max the Dog narrates as the mean and scheming Grinch, whose heart is "two sizes too small," decides to steal Christmas away from the Holiday loving Whos. Magnificent sets and costumes inspired by Dr. Seuss' original illustrations help transport audiences to the whimsical world of Whoville, as this sparkling production breathes new life into this timeless story of the true meaning of Christmas. Don't miss what The New York Times calls "AN EXTRAORDINARY PERFORMANCE! 100 times better than any bedtime story."

  • The Grinch Musical is great

We loved The Grinch Musical. It was a great combination of the old animated and Jim Carey movies. There were a lot of kids in the audience and at times the sound on the dialogue could have been louder. Not sure if that's a venue thing or production thing. Definitely a must see!!

The play was amazing! The costumes and set were classic Dr. Suess and so creative! The music was very good! It was a fun play and got everyone in the Christmas spirit. Great for kids!

  • Amazing!

We saw the musical in DC in early December. It was amazing! The story was told from Max's perspective which was different but still a good segway into the story. The singing and the costumes were the exactly the way you'd imagine Whoville to be. Very colorful and fun. And The Grinch was the best! He interacted with the audience a bit and his mannerism were spot on with the attitude The Grinch should have. We would definitely see this again!

The Grinch was a fun musical told from the perspective of Max. It was a cute rendition of the original and we really enjoyed the music (new and old), as well that the performers made it relevant to today!

This show was amazing. Appropriate for all ages and measured up well to the Jim Carey movie. My favorite was the perspective the show was told from

  • Lovely except

We had a great time! Great location, easy entrance, no food during the show was disappointing but hey, it’s expected. I would only say one bad thing, and that we be all the late comers. The lady on the mezzanine left door constantly was shining the flash light in the seated patrons eyes. I’m talking 20 times, as there were many late admissions. Could we maybe get her something less bright? Super distracting. Great show though!! Orchestra and Performers were wonderful!!

  • Simply Magical

by Liz B on 12/8/21The National Theatre - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Where do i start? Took my daughter for her 11th birthday and she was simply entranced... as was I. There was such a sense of nostalgia with the show being based on the boom. The sets and color choices were perfect, but best of all of course were the actors who truly transported the audience to Whoville and Mt. Crumpit. It was, in the words of my daughter "the most magical memorable perfect time of my life"

  • Fabulous trip to Whoville

by luvWHOtoo on 12/7/21The National Theatre - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

I absolutely loved this show! The costumes, the caliber of the voices, and the set! The Grinch's costume really made the character and loved seeing him slide down the pole! This show is a must see for the Holiday season!!!!

  • Giving it 3.5 out of 5 stars

by Robert on 12/7/21The National Theatre - WashingtonRating: 3 out of 5

I purchased my tickets early on and was able to get front row seats at a pretty affordable price. It was a decent experience but what would've made it great is if they allowed food and drinks in the theater. They had 1 refreshment stand but you could only eat it outside the main theater. Would've also liked for the venue to have sold toys for the kids. I liked the majority of the costumes and bright vivid colors of set but the grinch's costume was lacking in a way that took away from the actor's performance. also, the actor's used mics but the sound was off. It made me feel like I had a hearing problem. Aside from that, it was an enjoyable experience but not one that I would repeat unless they fix the above aforementioned issues.

  • Excellent

The musical was great. From the acting to the dancing and singing. I will definitely be going back next year and would recommend to families that have not seen it.

  • The Grinch Experience

by Sandy on 12/7/21The National Theatre - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

The show was good but the acoustics were bad. The music was so loud you could not hear “Max” most of the time or Cindy. Otherwise it was fun.

  • Cindy Lou Woo-Hoo!

So professional, but the child star blew us away! Acting, dancing and singing, she has it all...the show really gave us the Christmas spirit!

  • Slow plot, & songs were not memorable

Great lighting effects though, & costumes were quite intriguing.
