About

DR SEUSS' HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS! THE MUSICAL is the record-setting Broadway sensation which features the hit songs "You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch" and "Welcome Christmas" from the original animated television special. Max the Dog narrates as the mean and scheming Grinch, whose heart is "two sizes too small," decides to steal Christmas away from the Holiday loving Whos. Magnificent sets and costumes inspired by Dr. Seuss' original illustrations help transport audiences to the whimsical world of Whoville, as this sparkling production breathes new life into this timeless story of the true meaning of Christmas. Don't miss what The New York Times calls "AN EXTRAORDINARY PERFORMANCE! 100 times better than any bedtime story."

  • For the Kids

by Charm on 12/4/21The National Theatre - WashingtonRating: 3 out of 5

I went to this performance on Wednesday evening, my first theater performance back since the pandemic. It was great to be back in the theater. For the show itself, it was ok. The kids in the audience loved it. As an adult who's watched the Grinch all her life, its hard to not have high expectations. The Whos had the best performances and costumes. The Grinch itself, they could do much better with his costume, especially the face. I couldn't help thinking that it didnt really look like the Grinch. I think the impersonators you see on the street look better as the Grinch and have a better interpretation. Also, the dog doesnt look like the Mac from the cartoon. I thought the dog in this play looked more like a skunk. I think that overall, for the adult Grinch lovers, they need to tweak those costumes and the dialogue, even songs for the Grinch and Max a bit more and take it to the next level it should be at. The sets were pretty cool. Overall, its "C" grade for me. But, for the parents, the kids will enjoy it.

The show started on time. The story put together very well in the amount of time and the graphics were great. The show is towards the children. For the adults could be boring at times. Some elders were laughing but the price is kind of high for the show.

  • Outstanding Fun

Wonderful performance. Thoroughly enjoyed hearing two characters (Grinch and Old Max) who had baritone/bass belt in their vocal range. Staging was outstanding. Cindy Lou performer was impressive. Engaging the audience at appropriate times (breaking the 4th wall) was well done.

My girlfriend and I had a great time!! It was a lot of fun and reminded me of growing up watching The Grinch on tv during the Holiday Season. The Grinch’s interaction with the audience was also fun and heart warming. I definitely recommend seeing this performance!

After reading reviews, I was very reluctant to go see show but because I was taking the kids, I said what the heck it's for them to enjoy and not me. Well let me just say, the show was excellent for them as well as for me. I'm glad I did not listen to the reviews. I would have missed a great show.

Was a glorified high school play. Actually, I have seen better high school plays. If you’re looking for a classic Grinch like you remember as a kid, dont bother. If you want something totally different that makes you go ‘hmm’ then this might be for you. We got up and left the show early. 😔

  • Total fun with the Grinch!

All kids, grown to very little had a great time at the show! Lots of laughs, beautiful scenery and true Christmas spirit abounded.....the music was beautiful. The Grinch was the favorite of all! Really liked no intermission, it worked well with the little ones. Really appreciated a festive and entertaining holiday outing for our entire family!
